Eugène Ionesco, born Eugen Ionescu, was a Romanian playwright and dramatist; one of the foremost playwrights of the Theatre of the Absurd. Beyond ridiculing the most banal situations, Ionesco's plays depict in a tangible way the solitude and insignificance of human existence.

Like Le Solitaire, this book is very different from the plays. I found it entertaining but, unless I completely misunderstood it, Ionesco really could not stand Victor Hugo!!!

Brief anti-biography written during the youth of Romanian absurdist Egene Ionesco. Drawing largely on Edmund Bire’s nit-picky biography, Ionesco attempts to deride and express his dislike of Hugo and his literary works, going as far as to allege that Hugo’s despair over the death of Leopoldine was inauthentic. A pessimistic and profoundly immature work, emblematic of absurdist nihilism
