Disappointing

This series started strong and ended up being really disappointing. Maeve is supposed to be a strong witch. I gave her time to acclimate from thinking she was human to believing in her witch side. However, she never fully embraced her witch. In Terms 1-3 and Terms 4-6, everyone is telling her how powerful she is. Other witches are supposedly jealous of her. I could not figure out why anyone would be jealous of her! She was afraid of everything! She avoided having visions until the very end because she was afraid of what she'd see. I didn't see any improvement in her mental magic either. It seemed like she went to classes but learned absolutely nothing that could help her. The teachers who were supposed to work one on one with her were basically failures. Maeve avoided one of them, and only seemed interested in a relationship with the other. So Maeve shows absolutely no growth in her powers at all! Then, at the end, under the school..... I was so angry I was rolling my eyes and scanning to just get it over with. Maeve "froze" and could do nothing to save herself. In come her guys to save the day! BARF! I hate a weak heroine. I don't care that she needed help, but I definitely cared that she basically did nothing to save herself! Disgusting and disappointing. Where is the supposed strong witch? I never found her in all my reading....
Her relationships were unbalanced with favoritism shown to Andrei. Her relationship with Jaime was a friendship at best. Ash was used by Maeve more than anything. Tobias and Maeve's relationship was all over the place.
To top everything off, the series ends on a minor cliffhanger where the story isn't concluded and you will need to buy the next series to find out what happens. Truly disappointing!

I got some of these as ARCs. My reviews are always voluntary.

Term 4

I must admit it took me a few chapters to remind myself about this series. I have read numerous books since the Term 3 release and many of them were reverse harem academy books. You should binge read these so you remember all the events and nuances. Just saying.

This book starts right where the last one left off, though it took me 5 chapters to remember where that was, lol. Ash is off with his brother and some other shifters from Gilgamesh. Some seriously bad stuff happens to him that will haunt him for quite awhile. The others are at the Academy where there is a murdered witch and Andrei is blamed for her death. Maeve knows it wasn't him since she was with him at the time, but who can she tell that will believe her? The Confederacy is "investigating" but they don't really want it to be anyone but Andrei. Maeve and Jamie are trying to keep it together but the witches, vampires, and shifters have all turned against each other and the tension can be cut with a knife. Maeve is in a particularly bad spot since she is taking up for Andrei and has ties to Ash.

Tobias will also come to play a larger part in Maeve's life when a connection between their magics is opened up. She and Jamie will also discover something about their connection. Evil is swirling around them all and the end of the book brings a confrontation that can only end badly.

Term 5

Things really get interesting in this one. It starts right where the last one stopped, stupid cliffhangers! Maeve and Tobias have been taken by a Blackwood witch and now Jamie, Ash, and Andrei have to figure out how to get them back without getting killed in the process. It will take some blood magic and some help from an old friend, and a few new ones, to free them. Now the group has even more questions, and more secrets, to unravel. The ending will, once again, make you scream and pull out your hair. Yep, cliffhanger. (But fortunately, you have the next one because you have the boxset!)

Term 6

Oh, it is getting exciting now! Lots of drama and excitement in this one. Don't even try to read this as a stand-alone, you gotta read them all to understand what's what.

Maeve and her guys are really in for some nail biting, harrowing times in this one. Things at the Academy are going from bad to worse and they are in the middle of it. The witches and the hemia vamps are at each other's throats, literally and figuratively, the shifters are sneaking off campus and doing who knows what, and the heartbeat in the tunnels under Petrescu is freaking Maeve out. Theodora seems determined to keep the school open and is not taking the threats seriously. Then Tobias reveals a secret to Maeve that shatters her and he is removed from his duties and banned from the school. As the remaining members of the group struggle to understand what it all means, Maeve is torn apart by the revelation and the feelings she still has for Tobias. As her visions of the future worsen she and the guys must figure out how to save everyone at the academy, if that is even possible.

A fantastic YA series

I imagine if I was about sixteen years old, I'd be obsessing with this series. I was a huge fan of Kelley Armstrong, Tamora Pierce, and Maggie Wood, and these books are definitely up there with them, in my opinion!

As it is, I'm thirty-three, and I STILL enjoy this series. The spice level is about 1/5, but once I realized it is categorized as YA, I understood. The characters do get intimate a few times, but it's super vague when they are.

Nightworld Academy has mystery, a bit of drama, adventure, some romance, a bit of agnst, and more. The relationships are considered a bit taboo, particularly with Andrei (a vampire) and Maeve (a witch), and it especially causes people to stick their noses up at them when Andrei is a suspected murderer.

You'd think that close to the end of this, things would calm down. Oh no - there's still so much to do, bad guys to take down, mysteries to solve (including one that I've been screaming the answer for since halfway through this box set!), people to find, and a life to fight for!

Definitely recommend for all ages from teen and up!

Entrancing story

I enjoyed this serie so far. That being said, this book has an unfinished feel to it. The timeline is hard to keep track of and most of the time I felt as confused as the main character. There is at least one big plothole and a bunch of minor deviations that hassle the reader.
Too much happening and way too little lull between the worldshaking events.

Love the binge reads

Having binged books one through three, couldn’t resist doing the same with the second half of the series.

The relationships Maeve has with Andrei, Jamie, Ash and Tobias are put to the test with secrets and betrayals, forgiveness and lots of playtimes! The ending was left open to possibilities. Great 4.5 star read. Highly recommend

Nightworld Academy Term 4-6

Very enjoyable series! Box set 2 is full of paranormal activity and steamy love. Sad to see the end of the academy, but happy the characters will continue in new adventures.

Fantastic!

This series has amazing world building that immediately draws you in. The ensemble cast of characters is equally enthralling. This is a long range plot, so the series needs to be read in order. Definitely binge worthy!

DNF
Main character is so annoying. I tried so hard to get through this as I wanted to know how it ended but it's just not worth it. Everything is progressing so slowly and I cannot drag myself through it anymore.

These kids carry phones but never think to record what happens for proof?!? Is every professor incompetent? I had a hard time reading and finishing this.
