Broken Hearts

Ronan.

His name thrums through me like a heartbeat.

I climbed out of the smoldering crater of my life only to find myself back in the middle of a slow-motion trainwreck. I’m hunted, torn between my past and present, ripped apart by two warring families. My husband is dead, and his killer is the only man who’s ever felt the deep well of emotion I keep hidden from the world.

Ronan.

Vicious and scarred—his rough touch is seared into my skin, but his soft caresses are what break down my walls bit by bit. Until there’s only me left. My soul in his bloody hands, and my broken heart beating just for him. Only him.

Ronan.

My shadowy protector, my phantom lover—kiss me or kill me, I don’t care. As long as you’re the one who does it.

I rant and rave about books. All the time. It’s what I do because its my passion. Its one of the material things that help me get out of bed in the morning because I know that another adventure, love or heartbreak is on the horizon.
Since roughly 2008, when I picked up a copy of Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire off a Target shelf with my Grandma, Travis Maddox has been my number one book boyfriend. And, as many men as I adore in the pages of every book I read, my heart always goes back to him. There was something about the story of him and Abby Abernathy that just sucked in my heart and took it hostage. I have read that book so many times the copy my grandmother gifted me has started to fall apart. I have memorized their story. Their love. Their heartache. I never will give up the place that man has in my heart.

But, I must admit something.

Travis Maddox has been placed in the passenger seat and a new man has taken the spot he has held for thirteen years. Ronan Byrne has joined the chat and taken over.

I’m part of a pretty badass review team, Dangerous Press. Some of the authors on the line up, I’ve read. Some are brand new to me. M O’keefe was new. December 31, 2020 book one landed on my kindle for an honest and pure review. I expected to enjoy another story about two dueling families. What I didn’t expect was to fall head over heals for Queen Constantine’s attack dog, Ronan.

An Irish assassin with nothing and no one to lose.

I flew through book one. Thankful it was a physical book because I think the pages may have caught fire to how fast I read it. I sucked up Poppy Maywell’s tragic story like a dry sponge in a puddle. I was ready for the next time Ronan was going to show up. I ached for it, truthfully.

When I finished that book I felt a sense of emptiness. Like I’d physically lost something tangible and important.

So I’ve waited and waited for book two, Broken Hearts, to land on my kindle. And it did. On April 22. I read it in less than 8 hours. The time was broken because of work and sleep but when I had a second to spare, my eyes raced across the screen to absorb more of Ronan.

Book two was all Ronan. I had a piece of him on every single page, well, damn near. I was consumed all over again with his tragic story. His self proclaimed faults and short comings. But I was also proudly suffocated by his strengths.

He is one of the strongest good/bad guys I’ve ever read. As K Webster says, “Villains are my hero” and Ronan Byrne is ABSOLUTELY my hero.

And with all of that said, I will fight anyone who lays claim to the book husband I have taken for myself.
I will sometimes proclaim soandso is mine and yada yada but, this situation is different. I mean every word of this;

Ronan Byrne belongs to me, Nae.

This was PERFECTION. I'm in love with Ronan, no kidding. He is the kind of villain that will die just to protect the woman he inevitably loves. Poppy is getting more and more fierce and becoming a total badass. Despite their insane chemistry, this is still very much a slow burn but a brilliantly written one. Where Stolen Hearts was fast paced and something was happening in every chapter, this one is more of a waiting for the other shoe to drop. Poppy and Ronan's relationship feels somehow more intimate as they figure out their survival strategy. We discover just how far Ronan is willing to go to protect Poppy and in the meantime, we learn much more about his past, about why he is the way he is. And trust me, it's heartbreaking!

4 I Thee Worship Stars ⭐

Monsters are fun to fuck, but dangerous to love.

The wicked games, powerful people play. From a gilded cage to a prisoner on the run in Northern Ireland; this nightmare is never-ending for Poppy and Ronan. Unless you’ve started with the first book ‘Ruined’, this book ‘Broken’ is not a standalone.

Ronan has no choice but to bring Poppy to one of the remotest places he could find. With a bounty on Poppy’s head, nowhere is safe and nobody can be trusted including himself.

“Survival is ugly,” I said.
“But surviving is a thing of beauty. You are a thing of beauty, Poppy. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.”

Terrified and confused, Poppy is forced to depend on Ronan who she knows very little about, even if her body and heart would disagree. Forced into close proximity, their desires run hotter than ever. And he may pretend to be unaffected, but she is slowly learning different.

“I’m not going to leave you.” He pulled off his sweater, revealing his chest and the way his life had left its mark on him. Brutal scars and hard muscles. “And you’re not tired of me. Not at all.”

“Yes, I am. You’re boring.”

“That’s not what you think when you’re coming all over my face.”

Broken felt like a filler book setting the scene for the finale as their time away revealed some ugly home truths that are about to implode spectacularly. This book also proved how Poppy and Ronan are very much entwined and together is the only way to come out on top. Admittedly it annoys me having to read three books to get to the point, yet all exasperation aside I’m loving this series. The tension, the chemistry and the revelations are like a soap opera on crack!

Though this one reveals a lot of secrets, I kinda I'm sick of Ronan!
Yes, his life wasn't easy, but that's no motive to treat Poppy like that.
The mixed up signals he gives to her, is too much 🙄
description
He's afraid of wanting so much and loose, because was what happen when he was a kid, that's what his father done to him.
He's a hard 27 years old man, with daddy issues?!?
Naaaaaa... In the right dose, it's fine, but we passed that.
Don't know how Poppy has the patience for him.
description
It's always more the same, and I had so many expectations for this one, the way the first ended...
This end with cliffhanger also, but I'm not that anxious to read the third, as I was with this.
Ronan finally knows who is his family and his mother last name.
I liked the priest, Poppy is so sweet.
This story is in Ireland, next to the church that was also an orphanage, where Ronan lived when he as a kid.
Btw, Eden Morelli is amazing, she's so funny in a sarcastic kinda way.

There is just something about Molly O'Keefe's writing style that draws me in. Her characters are utterly broken in a most relatable way.
Poppy is vulnerable but not weak. She is fragile but also strong and capable.
Ronan is dark and dangerous but can be generous and loving. He just doesn't allow himself that very often because of the way he was brought up and the world he's living in.

The sequel to Stolen Hearts is easy to read, interesting, equally as provocative and dark as the previous book. It is less suspenseful, more centered on our main characters relationship. Is this an original story? Not really, but mafia stories rarely are. What is special is the way the story is laid out on the page, how it unfolds and it's supported by the great writing style.

This book ends in a cliffhanger that opens up the possibility for a fantastic sequel. Can't wait to read the next book!

Broken Hearts is the second book in the Ronan and Poppy Saga. Now that Poppy is officially on the run she is far from "free". She and Ronan have to find a way to fight the families that are circling around them and threatening their survival. Poppy wants Ronan more than ever and yet, he refuses to give himself to her. Ronan wants Poppy but knows that he can never have her. The baggage and damage he carries around he feels will only taint her and he doesn't want to ruin her. When Ronan and Poppy find themselves in an unbelievable position, they become committed to each other and finally decide to fight their demons together.

Told in dual POV, Broken Hearts increases the tension in the lives of both Poppy and Ronan. Although I found myself quite frustrated with the way in which he was withholding from her, I could understand his need to protect her from the darkness he carried around. Poppy is a strong heroine who grows immensely through each traumatic event she experiences. As she grows stronger, Ronan's ability to hold back continues to diminish.
"𝚂𝚑𝚎 𝚠𝚊𝚜 𝚖𝚒𝚗𝚎."
Overall, Broken Hearts will appeal to Mafia Romance fans who enjoy an action packed series with passion, suspense, and romance. Ronan and Poppy are quite a pair and you will enjoy watching them come together. Again, Broken Hearts leaves you longing for more so make sure you have the final book Untamed downloaded and ready to read!

“I am only an instrument of pain, and my only job was to protect her.”

well i'm not confused anymore. it was def the writing style and not the plot that made me lose my mind in book 1.

anyway, i love the plot in this book but the pacing was kinda off. i feel like if there was a good balance of plot and romance then i wouldn't be complaining this much lmao.

its def a slow burn but the good kind because at least stuff is happening LMAO. i also hate caroline with all my life. she's a fucking snake especially after reading the starcrossed lovers trilogy. can't wait for all these authors to kill her off <3

overall something is just missing in this trilogy, i don't even know what.

M. O'Keefe - Broken Hearts (Hearts Trilogy 2)
A Midnight Dynasty Collection

It’s all beginning to add up!

PSX-20210428-015115-wm

Broken Hearts continues from the bang that ended book 1, Stolen Hearts. Poppy is in danger and Ronan has no option but to take her into hiding. From Bishops Landing to the green pastures of Northern Ireland, we watch as Poppy and Ronan try to survive with all odds stacked against them.

"Monsters like me don't get a happy ending Poppy."

Ronan is still the dark mysterious man he appeared to be in Stolen Hearts. With demons that haunt him and a dark past, we learn he is more complex than we thought. By returning to his roots he is forced to face his past and question the people in his life. He is a tortured man, full of regret and self-loathing. Still all illusive, we get to see his point of view and understand his character. I loved his protectiveness and what surprised me the most was his integrity. We got to see behind his intentions and witness his honourable side. Ronan has fast become my favourite antihero.

Poppy is slowly growing a backbone. With her life in jeopardy, she is forced to rely on Ronan for protection. I’m enjoying her character development, seeing her become tougher. She’s feisty when she wants something, and with every ordeal she is faced with she finds strength and gains confidence in herself. Still broken from her past she is still resilient and has hope for a better future. She knows what she wants and she’s brave enough to take it.

"Survival is ugly," I said. "But surviving is a thing of beauty. You are a thing of beauty, Poppy. The most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen."

Ronan and Poppy are two opposites of a coin, yet they have more in common then they both think. Both broken by their pasts, they are two broken hearts beating the same tune. Book one was a slow burn but this book made up for it in spades. Their situation forces them into close proximity where they are compelled to navigate through their ever growing desires. The chemistry was off the charts. Their dynamic changes slightly as Poppy demands more from Ronan. As the story continues, both characters gradually start to open up. I loved reading Ronan’s mannerisms and his rough demeanour.

This book had me blushing, teary eyed, jumping out of my seat, speechless and captivated with trying to connect all the dots. I had to put on my detective hat for this one and I loved every second of it! The shocking twist at the end had me flabbergasted and lost for words. We see more from the colossal character that is Eden Morelli. More characters are mentioned and the plot essentially thickens. The war between the Morelli’s and Constantine’s is ever growing. Danger is fast approaching and nothing is quiet as it seems… The cliff-hanger has me so excited. I'm so invested in this couple. Bring on Untamed Hearts!

"I wanted to hurt her and be hurt by her. I wanted to drown in the pleasure and the pain we’d give each other."

Book 2 in this series is one that took me a long time to finish.

The start of the book was promising, with Poppy getting shot and Ronan trying to keep her alive.
In his quest to keep Poppy safe, Ronan took her to Ireland, back to the place where he grew up and had avoided.

Sadly, there is were things went south for me, I was not so much interested in their playing house bliss that took up so much of the book.

It wasn't until the last two chapter that things finally pick up and speed along. With a lot being revealed, I'm ready for book 3.

Why do authors feel like they should stuff trilogies through our throats. I honestly believe Poppy's and Ronan's story could have been one somewhat longer book or maybe two shorter ones.
But the unnecessary chapters that did not add anything to the whole, this was just boring.
I'm only giving this 3⭐ for chapters 1, 2, 18-21. The other ones you can easily skip and you won't loose anything from the plot.

Part of the Hearts Series and must be read in order:

*screams at the iPad* I’m so upset that this book is over!!! That ending was fabulous and Untamed cannot get here soon enough.

Last we left off Poppy was shot and startling revelations about the Senator and his staff were revealed. Our anti-hero Ronan was also outed as someone dubious. Little ol’ Poppy had found some gumption and Zilla was still a wildcard.

As this piece of the story unfolded I found myself falling in love with Ronan. Dark romances usually have a near irredeemable male lead. He is someone we come to accept, faults an all, but he isn’t a good person and never has been. Ronan is different. He’s not a psychopath or sociopath, he’s a product of his upbringing. He was made into the monster and has accepted his evil doings as a means of survival.

I wish this story had been told solely through Ronan’s eyes as the first book was told through the eyes of Poppy. Seeing life the way he does is both breathtaking and devastating at the same time. To always be so guarded and on edge is a taxing way to live.

When we do read Poppy’s thoughts we get a glimpse into what it means to rebuilt a broken soul. I enjoyed watching her grown in a person willing to take what she wants without reservation. There’s still that meek girl that pops out but she has begun to make less and less of an appearance.

This one doesn't have quite the same grit that was in book one but I loved continuing Ronan and Poppy's story. Both are strong independent yet damaged characters. Ronan doesn't feel he deserves Poppy and Poppy is trying to heal after the disaster that had been her marriage.

This book helped us get more insight into the characters and what has shaped them into the people that they have become. The ending clearly sets us up for net instalment in Poppy and Ronan's tale.

Ronan’s past is revealed in Broken Hearts and it is sad and bleak and left me feeling like he needed a cuddle and someone to fight for him, love him. Poppy wants to be his soft landing, his place to be safe and loved. But will Ronan allow Poppy to be that person?
Oh my goodness the twists in this book were shocking and not at all what I expected! And that ending, WOW, where can it go from here??
This story was heartbreaking, and at times devastating, but there is also a flicker of hope.

Jesusmaryandjoseph talk about mind-blowing revelations that packed the ultimate punch, that's exactly what we got in this story!!

Broken Hearts is book two in the Hearts Trilogy and picks up right where Stolen Hearts left off and oh boy did we get a story! Ronan and Poppy are still giving us the slow burn song and dance, well more Ronan than Poppy because she's ready to take matters into her own hands. Ronan knows the only way to protect Poppy is to hone in on his anger and cold dead heart. Poppy wants to know the true Ronan but the bomb that's dropped changes everything between these two.

This story was not what I expected but man did it grab my attention and have me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. This book definitely left me stunned and asking "what the hell just happened"!

Absolutely phenomenal. Even better than the first book!!!
Ronan is my new favorite book boyfriend. Such a broken, tortured man. Poppy is also so different in this book. Stronger. Braver. I just loved her.
The book is full of twists and turns! I did not expect that twist. The chemistry is off the charts and I seriously cannot wait for more. This author never disappoints.
Read it!!!

Second book of the trilogy:

-We're focusing more on the relationship between MCs: that's perfect since the first book was about their fated/forbidden encounters.
Even if this book has smut, I can't help but appreciate the slow burn of romance.

-FMC is still that deer in headlights even if she's getting more conscious about her circumstances and the lies/ secrets trapping her. I'm waiting for her unleashing in the third book (she'll definitely save the MMC for once)

-MMC is still the perfect gentleman for a cold blooded killer. We got his pov in this book and that what priceless.

“Monsters like me don't get a happy ending, Poppy"

This was a great sequel to Stolen Hearts! This one definitely revealed more secrets and layers to both Ronan and Poppy. Ronan is such an amazing alpha and I thoroughly enjoyed watching him fall for Poppy in spite of himself (he definitely resisted for a long time). And Poppy is such a resilient heroine- she has been through a lot but she knows that what she wants and she wants Ronan! And their steam was off the charts! The last 25% definitely was action placed and left me on the edge of my seat wanting more!!

Safety gang:
- No cheating
- No OW/OM drama
- Mention of physical abuse
- Mention of suicide
- Mention of animal cruelty
- Violence
- Cliffhanger

After the events of book 1 this one is set in a small town in Northern Ireland where Ronan grew up (In the church).

The whole book is spent in that town and in the cabin of an old friend of his. We get more information about his childhood and what was going on in the church. What caused it to be shut down as a school and the start of Ronan becoming who he is.

He tells her he killed the senator because it was ordered by Caroline but we find out in his POV that he did that on his own (My theory was correct).

He is given a folder with his records and one document is the birth certificate he never knew existed. I knew it was important since we were told his mothers first name and not much else since she died during childbirth and of course it turned out to have a significant piece of information about why the Morelli’s are interested.

We also find out why there is a alive or death order on Poppy and once again papers she refused to check are the main reason. Those damn documents seem to just hold all the answers and these two are clueless.

He still refused to sleep with her and we find out why and the reason wasn’t good enough for me. I thought it would have to do with his traumatic childhood in the church but it’s just cause he doesn’t want to get pregnant? So he never had protection with him so he wouldn’t be tempted to sleep with her? Okay? Kind of anti-climactic.

The ending was really shocking - I liked the twist about having to get married when it was discussed how she never wanted to remarry. I do wish we had gotten Poppy to leave and be separated from him and have him grovel for leaving her.

Broken Hearts by M. O'Keefe was an epic rollercoaster. My head is spinning after finishing this twisted tale of shocking revelations and deadly secrets. My heart is full of angsty feels and the passion stole my breath.

This trilogy is part of the Midnight Dynasty world where two rich and powerful families are carrying out their feud for generations. Ronan Byrne is the fixer of the Constantine family. He has been living this dangerous and emotionally unavailable life till he meets Poppy. It started as a job. But this innocent and beautiful woman has mesmerised him. Now she is caught in the crossfire between the Morellis and the Constantines. And Ronan has to protect her at any cost. He is escaping with her to his home in Ireland. A place of nightmares but Poppy is his first priority. Can he keep her safe?

This story was so much more captivating than the first one. The rugged setting of Ireland provided an excellent backdrop for Poppy and Ronan's messed up romance. I loved the development and evolution of Poppy's character so much. She has seen so much darkness, pain and abuse but she has retained her simplicity, her innocence and her precious heart. But her days with Ronan also made her strong, fierce and determined. We get to see the detailed insight into Ronan's past and how he became this "monster". I absolutely love this broken man with scarred heart. He is desperately trying to save Poppy, even from himself. Poppy made his walls crumble and his passion and devotion for Poppy is priceless. The author's writing was really powerful as she unleashed so much complex emotions between them. The angst was beautiful. So was the chemistry. My heart was being dragged to different directions and I felt every sad, intense, euphoric and complicated emotion deep inside. It was fast paced and action packed WITH THE BIGGEST TWIST OF THE CENTURY. My jaw hit the floor and I still cannot believe my eyes. It was a game changer and the conclusion will be spectacular.

Broken Hearts by M. O'Keefe evoked some vicious reactions in my heart and soul. The swoony, sultry and butterflies-in-stomach kind of feels came right along with the suspense and thrill.

Another intense read from Molly O’Keefe, this is the second book in the Hearts trilogy, and the continuation of the tumultuous story of Poppy and Ronan.

This book had me hooked from start to finish as the story shifts gears from the first book in the series, and we get the opportunity to get up close and personal with Poppy, who is finding her strength and trying to claim her life back after the death of her husband, and Ronan, the broody, enigmatic, anti-hero whose perspective we get for the first time, and his POV brings a lot more depth and an exciting change to the dynamic of the story.

This book continues right after the heartstopping cliffhanger that finished the last book, and now Ronan has whisked Poppy away to his native Ireland – a place that holds horrific memories for him, but is one of the safest places he can take Poppy to protect her.

It’s quite the change of pace from the first book, as this one has Poppy and Ronan in forced proximity, and we get lots of time with them together. Their back and forth is snarky, inquisitive, and full of subtext, but it’s frustrating at times – as it is meant to be as Poppy tries to get answers from her captor/saviour. Poppy is coming in to her own even more, which I loved, and now that we’re getting Ronan’s POV, we see a softening of his harsh exterior and come to understand his motives and his behaviour, and I loved learning more about him.

The sexual tension between these two is combustible, and the steamy time is so freaking hot, but the romance is not really there yet, and we still haven’t seen all that this couple can be. I’m so excited for the final instalment where hopefully we’ll get to fully explore them in a whole new way.

But in the meantime, danger is looming, secrets are revealed, and an almighty twist at the end turns the story on its head. The final book in the trilogy is set up wonderfully, and I can’t wait so see how it’s all going to finish.

Really enjoyed this one – 3.5 stars!

After finishing book one, Stolen Hearts, I was DYING to get my hands on Broken Hearts. I needed to know what would happen next. Broken Hearts is captivating, full of twists and turns, plenty of secrets and a whole lot of questions.

I love Ronan and Poppy. Their chemistry is explosive. The push and pull between them, the tension. It is completely addicting. I loved getting more about Ronan and it really gave a lot of insight into who he is and explains a lot about why he views himself as he does.

There is plenty of suspense throughout the story, plenty of steamy, lots of twists and secrets and once again an ending that leaves you wanting the next book in the trilogy. I can’t wait to see where Ronan and Poppy’s story is going to go next!!

If you’re looking for dark romance with suspense this is one to check out!

Overall Rating - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

Ronan is back! This time we have him saving Poppy and taking her to Ireland, not that she has a say in the matter as she is unconscious when this happens. And this why I love Ronan. He will sweep in to keep Poppy safe no matter the cost, regardless of his safety and consequences.

I loved that this book was more about Poppy and Ronan together, Molly gave us what we wanted with more dark, brooding, alpha, dirty Ronan. I also really felt for Ronan at times talking about his past, he has been so lonely and yet won’t let anyone in, my heart broke for him.

Poppy came into herself over this book and I loved the way she pushed for more of him. Although, she was still her endearing self and I liked the relationship she formed with the Priest.

As the book drew to a close the action was ramped up with a twist I was hooked and I can’t wait to see what happens next!

This is book two in a trilogy and continues right where book one finished and must be read before this.

ARC received an honest opinion

Words fail me. I just finished Broken Hearts by M O’Keefe, the second of her trilogy of Ronan and Poppy and it felts like my eyes are stuck spread wide open. Shocking doesn’t begin to cover this story. In this book, you see Ronan constantly at war with himself. The more time he spends with Poppy, the more vulnerable he becomes and that makes his job of protecting her that much more difficult. In that same time, Poppy transforms herself from a timid and frightened woman to one that displays strength and poise. Ronan’s backstory was a definite bonus into understanding why he’s built such a hard impenetrable shield around himself. The twists and turns of this book have you hopeful in one minute and distraught in the next. I will assume that the conclusion of Ronan’s and Poppy’s story will be filled with more darkness, but I’m hopeful flash bursts of light will appear.

Wow! This is a perfect second act to this exciting trilogy. Molly O’Keefe has written an adrenaline filled story that keeps you hooked and makes you excited that there is more to come!

This book picks right back up where Stolen Hearts left off, with the broody, alphahole Ronan doing what he does best, protecting Poppy. They are on the run and all he’s worried about is keeping her safe and alive. Poppy on the other hand wants something that Ronan isn’t willing to give. With a series of twists and turns this story will have you on the edge of your seat!

But remember this is Book 2 of this trilogy, so there is a cliffhanger but I’m starting to like them, I am enjoying the detailed character development we get when the story gets to be longer.

All in all this is a solid book, and I’m so excited for the last part of this story! I’m addicted to these Midnight Dynasty stories!

I cannot believe how much I loved this book! I mean, sometimes, the second book in a trilogy is good as it continues on the story, but this book, this 2 of 3, it could be a standalone. This is all about Ronan and Poppy, who they are, who they’ve become, how they became these people. It transports you with them, you feel the atmosphere, the cold, the wind, the roaring fire. You feel the frustration, the heat, the understanding, and the pain. You feel the secrets, the discoveries, and the determination. The two people who you meet at the start of the book are not the same two people by the end of the book, and that is a good thing. Now, who they become in the third book? That I cannot wait to see <3

I was so excited to get this book after how the first book ended. I don’t know why, but I didn’t expect that beginning. I should have known better. The build up of the relationship between Ronan and Poppy is crazy good, and then what happens to them at the end of the book. What?! In this book we learn so much more about Ronan and why he is the way he is, in general and with Poppy. I did not see that ending coming either. This is the second book of a trilogy, so you’ll definitely want to read the first book before you read this one, but it is an excellent book and worth the read.

I can’t get enough of Molly O’Keefe’s writing. This is only the second book I’ve read by her but I am OBSESSED! I couldn’t stop listening. She has a way of making me feel intense emotions throughout her book, keeping me completely hooked and engaged with the story and characters and making me fall in love with them and I honestly did.

After my brutal cliffhanger, the author left us on with book one, I was hanging for book two and this book was just as intense as the first, if not more! Book two picks up where book one left off.

Poppy is in danger and she has to go into hiding the only person who can help her do that is Ronan. In an attempt to keep her safe, Ronan takes Poppy to Ireland back to a place he grew up and to a place he tries to avoid, but he has no other choice than to bring her there.

Ronan is my obsession. He has been since book one. He’s still dark, mysterious, dangerous, delicious and domineering but you start to see a different side to him in book two. By returning to Northern Ireland, a lot of his dark past starts to surface and he is forced to start to deal with his demons, questioning the people he surrounds himself with. I also get to see that he holds a lot of regrets and he struggles with self-worth and he’s quite a damaged man. I started to understand his character a bit more in this book.

My heart continued to break for Poppy so much after book one and into book two. She had lost so much, had been beaten down for so long, and experienced pain that no one should ever experience, but in book two I started to see growth in her. The pain she’s gone through is making her stronger and more resilient. Ronan is her protection and she is forced to depend on him. Her self-confidence bloomed so much and she wasn’t scared thinking of a better future because when she knows what she wants, she will fight to get it. I love how far she has come.

Poppy and Ronan have both had a dark broken past which has shaped them into the people they are today. The chemistry between Ronan and Poppy is explosive, you can cut the sexual tension with a knife, however, Ronan is reluctant to let anything happen between them and tries to act unaffected but being in such close proximity to each other all the time, it seems to be getting harder to deny their undeniable attraction and sexual tension…

This book had it all, suspense, mystery, spice, emotion and twists and turns that are sure to have you second-guessing everything you thought you already knew. Just like book one, book two was left on one hell of a cliffhanger!!

Bring on book three!

5 STARS!!

Most of this book felt like a pause in action after book one, but in a good way. A chance for Ronan and Poppy to connect away from it all, and for us readers to see more backstory. Then the end reveals a very big secret. And a lot of is happening. I can't even imagine how the final book is going to go!
