Make Me a Match

Rate this book
When a high school history teacher, Gant Fréres, gets roped into a charity bachelor auction by his wealthy family, he knows he’s doomed. The buyers are usually of a certain age with strange requests. He’d rather spend a week locked in a room with his football students fielding questions about puberty than strutting down the stage in a penguin suit waiting to be sold. While his mother and sister plot his downfall, Gant tries to come up with a plan to save himself.

When her long-lost grandmother showed up in her hometown, Paislee Rhodes thought she was doomed. After all, the grandmother was from her dad’s side—the side that had kicked her mom to the curb and Paislee to be raised alone. Her grandmother has different ideas. She spirits Paislee away to the Abbott mansion to make a match between the wealthy Freres family and the Abbotts. Step one: get Paislee to buy Gant Freres at the bachelor auction. Step two: profit. While her grandma plots her downfall, Paislee tries to come up with a plan to save herself.

'Cenicienta, si no me compras, me convertiré en una calabaza. No dejes que eso quede en tu conciencia'.

Make me a match de Ella Goode

"Make Me a Match" is the story of Paislee and Gant.

A very very sweet romance between a rich schoolteacher and a lost heroine. They meet at a bachelor's auction, sparks fly, slow courtship takes place, followed by daddy drama, sex and HEA.

Average for me.

I think this is the fastest I've ever noped out of a book! It involves an auction, which I'm already not the biggest fan of but they can be kind of fun if done right. This book, though...it got off on the wrong foot with me almost immediately.

As the story opens, the hero is being harassed into participating in a charity auction by his mother and sister. The hero's future brother-in-law participated in that same auction for five years before becoming engaged to the hero's sister and his experiences always included the women (seniors, essentially) making unwanted advances toward him, with him essentially being forced into posing nude for a couple of twins his final go-round (it was the trade-off for them not trying to grope him all night). I don't care that the women were older, I don't care if the hero manages to avoid those experiences himself, it's disturbing that the author plays that kind of behavior off as a joke. It's even worse when you learn that the hero's sister knows what her fiance went through, but thinks it's hilarious and so therefore has no qualms about pushing her brother into doing it.

I just can't. If it had been left at harmless flirting on the part of the older women, sure, or if the tone of the book were more serious and darker, maybe, because that's where behavior like the brother-in-law describes belongs. Not in a light-hearted insta-love romance.

Sweet insta-love, and so funny! It's full of hilarious situations with sarcastic retorts and a man in love who is good, devoted, and remarkably adept at righteous revenge on those who seek to harm his family.

I enjoyed every chapter, really. It starts at an auction for charity where men tremble at the daring women who buy them. The fun grows from there. The meet-cute is powerful and sweeps both characters off their feet. Paislee is lonely and trying to find her place in a new world of wealth and back-stabbing. Gant is instantly besotted with her beauty and good heart.

There is some courting, very nice dialogues, and swift passion that puts them on the brink of the altar. I loved her grandma and the times they enjoyed together, and I had a blast at Gant's mafia tactics to defend his lady and his love for her. It's really fun right up to the incredible epilogue. So great!

Cute meet

This book was a fairly good read. Paislee thought she was alone I the world, having lost her mom two years ago. However, her very wealthy grandmother tracked her down and brought her back to the family home. Her father disliked her because she had been his dirty secret since he was already married and had two older legitimate sons. He had never even met Paislee.

Gant was also from a very wealthy family, but lived the simple life of a schoolteacher. His mother railroaded him into being auctioned off as a bachelor. This was how Gant and Paislee met. He saw her and gave her his credit card and begged her to bid on him.

The beginning was funny with the interaction of Gant and his soon to be brother-in-law and all the stories his brother-in-law had about all the women that had bid on him before, hence the need for Gant to ask Paislee to bid on him. He wanted to escape all the crazy.

Gant and Paislee meet by chance at the charity auction... or do they? Are their bigger agendas to married them off for wealth? The only thing I know is that Gant runs into Paislee and it was over from there. He knew what he’d been waiting for his whole life, now just to convince her that she’s meant for him and to be his whole world.

Make me a match

Plot: Paislee is new to the rich lifestyle, having found out when her mother died that he father was the scion of a wealthy family. Her new grandmother came and got her and brought her into a world she can hardly understand, much less enjoy. Even worse, she's living at the family home, and her father hates her (and always lets her know). Her grandmother arranges to have her participate in a bachelor auction (or at least convinces her to go); when she gets there, she runs into Gant, who begs her to bid on him so that others can't. She wasn't sure she should do it, but between her instant fascination with Gant and her grandmother's urging, she does. This leads Gant to claiming a date with her, to meet the requirements of the auction of course, even though Paislee didn't want to go through with it. He's persistent though, and they eventually get to know each other a little better.

Character development: Both of these characters seemed to have their heads on straight, which given the buckets of money being thrown around, was pretty surprising. I wish there was something more about the dad - why was he such a jerk? Why did he hate Paislee so much? There's probably not an explanation - some people are just jerks, I know. I just had not having a good explanation for that (in and out of books!). Gant was especially endearing to me because he had all the word at his feet, and chose to not rely on his family name and money and instead become a teacher. He was a down-to-earth, honest-to-goodness, patented good guy. I will say that I kept misreading his name. I would read it in my head as Grant or Gnat. Because Gant??? It's probably a super popular name in another language, and I'm just a heathen.

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes

Gant and Paislee. A good read for me. Paislee bid Gant in an auction. And their family had an old problems before, but Gant knew Paislee was different.

“I think you know you’re hot. You’re the total package as far as I can tell.”

“And I think you have no idea how breathtaking you are. But I plan to remind you often.” I duck my head to try and hide my blush. He makes me feel like a schoolgirl with a crush I can’t control.

“I did have fun tonight. I don’t want you to think otherwise,” I tell him as he drives us back towards my grandma’s estate. “All of this can be a lot to take in sometimes.”

He reaches over, grabbing my hand. His fingers tangle with mine. “We have all the time in the world.”

Their story was interesting for me, but the writing was flat and straightforward. I didn’t get much chemistry and connections between the MCs, hmmm.. I finished really quick, and I think it’s an Okk read for me. 🌟

I think the wealthy, high society issues formed too much of the main plot and conflict. The hero and heroine’s attraction and falling in love was more told than felt. I never really felt a strong connection or undying devotion between them.

Just a story about rich people not wanting to be rich.

Paislee is the illegitimate daughter of a wealthy man, he had an affair with her mom and when she became pregnant with Paislee he abandoned her. After her mother dies she is all alone until her paternal grandmother, Marguerite shows up to bring her into the family, which makes her dad very angry, and upsets her half brothers. She is having fun with her grandmother but she feels she doesn’t fit in very well. Gant is a history teacher at a high school, his family has money but he likes to live a simple life. Hoping to find him a wife his mom and sister enter him in a bachelor auction, afraid one of the perverse older ladies will bid on him he tries to find someone to help. That’s when he sees Paislee, he calls her A Disney princess. He gives her his black card and asks her to bid on him and win him. Marguerite hoping for her to make a good match is happy to help her bid on Gant. In the end she wins him but pays with the card her grandmother gave her, and leaves, she does not want the date with him. But he most definitely wants the date with her, he is very attracted to her. He goes to their house the next day and with Marguerite’s help sets up a date. Everything’s going well until Gant makes a comment that makes it sound like Paislee is here for her grandmothers money, dates over. The next day Marguerite takes her to lunch with Gant’s mom & sister. His friend gives him a heads up and he joins them. Lunch banter and Gant says he and Paislee will be getting married. A jealous past student who wants Gant tells Paislee she is in over her head, that everyone is just using her so her grandmother can control the money. Then her dad says the same thing. Which causes her to feel hurt and alone. Gant comes over and threatens her dad to leave her alone and moves Paislee into his house. They finally have sex, dual virgins. Epilogue with Paislee teaching at the same high school and her contractions start and the students help them get to the hospital. She has the baby but we don’t get a name.
I was confused by the sinister wording in the blurb, ‘While her grandma plots her downfall, Paislee tries to come up with a plan to save herself.’ I don’t remember reading anything about the plot to take her down. Marguerite was kind to her, she may have been using her to keep the fortune out of her son’s hands but she wasn’t hurting Paislee. And there was no scenario where Paislee has to save herself, Gant warns her father off, you never see her interact with her brothers. Basically it was as another reviewer said, it’s about rich people not wanting to be rich.

Matchmaker, matchmaker- make me a Match...as high school history teacher, Gant Fréres, gets shanghaied into a charity bachelor auction by his wealthy mother and sister, he knows he’s doomed. The buyers are usually of a ‘vintage’ generation with certain proclivities. He’d rather spend a week locked in a room with his football students fielding questions about puberty, than strutting down the stage in a penguin suit waiting to be rounded up like cattle. As his mother and sister plot his demise, Gant persuades an alluring stranger with green eyes to rescue him.

Paislee Rhodes
When her long, lost grandmother showed up in her hometown, a woman she didn’t know existed until a month ago when she showed up on her doorstep claiming to be family...the grandmother from her father’s side—the father that had kicked her mum to the curb and left Paislee to be raised alone.

Her grandmother spirits Paislee to the Abbott mansion to thwart her father as she sets out to get to know her only granddaughter and matchmaking the Fréres and the Abbotts. Step one: get Paislee to buy Gant Freres at the bachelor auction. Step two: a smitten Gant claiming her.

She wouldn't have known, had Marguerite not tracked her down and confessed that her son had slipped in the fact that he’d fathered a child with a woman in Tennessee. Her mum never said much about her sperm donor. Merely that he was a man that promised her many things when she was young and impressionable.

After losing her mother two years ago, she believed herself to be alone in the world. Then her grandmother, Marguerite materialised asking her to come home. It doesn't help that her father is unhappy about the fact that his mother went and found her.

Paislee is twenty-two and her father’s been married for thirty years with two sons. Both older than her.

There is an epilogue, five years into the future.

First things first....this book is
safe
no cheating
no OM/ slight OW's (just a bunch of women wanting to bone Mr. Gant Fréres our H, but he is oblivious to them and ignores them)
H, Gant , is a history teacher from a rich family, 28 years old, saved himself for love, and he found it with our h.
h Paisley is an orphan, lost her mom, thrown away by her douche bag father, and was found by her very own fairy god mother, her grandmother, a super wealthy, sassy, powerful lady. Grandma Marguerite loathes her son that made our h and her mom disappear to preserve his reputation of being a cheater, (he was married when he impregnated the h's mom). He gets his comeuppance especially after treating his own daughter like crap since she moved in with them in their estate, but the matron of the family, her grandmother keeps her safe under her wings and nudges her towards our H who is smitten!
Gant does everything to win Paisley's affections and his sweet slightly OTT alpha ways gets him his future wife! The whole courtship was just a delight.
Dual virgins for the win!!
HEA
The Fréres family are also really sweet and welcoming and I love them too.
Faithful, loving, swoon worthy and this couple put a smile on my face! Perfect read for a cold afternoon.
I needed a novella that made me smile and it is also full of humor, you will enjoy it!!
Loved it and will revisit it again!

Gant and Paisley are precious! Their chemistry is good. The blatant Cinderella aspect to this is just plain fun. Frankly, these two characters deserve a much bigger book - I love them!

That said, I don’t particularly love the circumstances around them. Not sure how to explain why. There weren’t any big no-nos for me. [NOTE: anything I’m mentioning is clear in the synopsis or within the first few pages so no spoilers.] I mean rich boy/poor girl is a thing, but he’s very down to Earth. The father was a jerk, but that’s nothing new for me. Maybe it was just that having this girl who has no family brought into this brand new situation with an Uber rich grandmother she didn’t know she had is a bit stressful. Again though, not out of the realm of enjoyable for me. I genuinely am not sure, but there was something intangible about it that I didn’t love.

Maybe it has something to do with how uncomfortable Paisley was with it all. I definitely feel like I got into her head. Hmmm...

Either way, this book is a solid four stars. It’s fun, funny, sweet, sexy, and all the good adjectives.I highly recommend it for any looking for a short read that will make them smile!

Grant Fréres is a high school history teacher and the son of a famed wedding dress designer. When his mother and sister force him to participate in a charity bachelor auction, he knows that it is not going to end well for him. After all, he has heard horrible stories from his future brother-in-law. So when he sees the chance to rig the auction he is eager to find someone to help him out. But what if she is one of the most beautiful women he has ever seen? And the daughter of a man he despises?

Paislee Rhodes is in way over her head in this world of wealth and opulence that she was dropped into after her grandmother found her. She has not idea, though, that one night at a charity auction is going to change her life even more than it already did.

Ella Goode has another winner here! Paislee and Grant are so cute together. I love the dynamic between the two. As per usual Goode stories, Grant is an alpha who instantly wants to claim Paislee. There are some really good scenes that lead to hilarious events because of Grant’s alpha status!

I absolutely fell in love with this story!
Paislee and Gant are absolutely adorable.

As a child it was always Paislee and her mother. But then her mother died and a long lost grandmother showed up on her and wanted to bring her back with her to get to know each other. For someone who just lost the only family she has known, Paislee was on board to get to know her grandmother.
But there may be more at play than just a woman wishing to play the grandmother role here. After all she just brought her sons illegitimate child back home just to rub it in his face that he had an affair.

Gant Freres mother has been trying to match him up for years. This newest bachelor auction is only her newest scheme, but to keep her off his back he'll participate. While waiting to be auctioned off and hearing other bachelor's horror stories he's determined to come up with a plan to save himself.
However, things may be a bit different than Gant intended when it comes to his plan. He's soon finds himself chasing after a woman he had every intention of getting to know and taking her up on the date she just bought him for.

Things for Paislee aren't easy. She didn't grow up in the world of money so she doesn't have the same nasty streak that some women tend to have. She'll have to eventually figure out a way to stand up for herself when those around her try to bring her down and make her question every person's motives in her life.
