Disciples #6

Trapping Sophia

Rate this book
I'm a psycho. A stalker. A sick and obsessed monster...

I'm what happens when you keep a man away from the woman he wants.

They said I couldn't have her...

That grabbing and keeping the Police Chief's daughter would bring too much down on our heads.

I listened. I obeyed. And I've been slowly going mad with the need to make her mine ever since.

For seven months, I've watched her from afar and followed her every move.

Protecting her. Killing for her.

And she doesn't even know I exist.

She doesn't know how I burn and ache after our one kiss.

Now her father's dead.

She's weak and in pain, reeling from the loss.

All alone in the world now.

Unprotected.

If I was a good man, I'd give her time and space to deal with her grief.

I'd give her room to heal.

But I'm not a good man.

I'm a bad man.

And she has no idea what's coming for her...

Ohhh we back in this series!!! Been awhile and fuck when I say shit hit the fan it did. This is dark but I think its darker then the other ones in the book and steamy.

We met this couple back few books but James pushed away Sophia because her father is a Police chief and he thought he would be to dark for her. But he still watched her from afar until her father died now shes all alone and he wont let anyone harm her. So he does what all these OTT alpha men do kidnap her. And Sophia is already going though the emotions from her fathers death to James coming back in her life (she doesn't know lol be been stalking her) he just keeps saying he's keeping her safe.

Their relationship is very hot cold and that's because of Sophia she doesn't know of she should trust James yet even if she's falling for him with each joke, argument and the lengths he goes to keep her happy and safe.. also their sexy times are 🔥🔥💦

Be warned James is a cold hearted killer and we see him do what he does.. and let me tell you It was DARK and little gross..

Low angst, No ow drama and Slight om drama, No cheating, drama, Secondary character, sexy times, virgin gal and no mamwhore (he was a manwhore in the past but after meeting h he stop)

James just made it to my book husband list (who currently only had Ronin from the Boston Underworld, on it). Dear readers, you will be in for a treat with this one.

Sophia, what have you gotten yourself into? With just a taste.. just a moment of weakness..

James. When he feels.. he feels DEEP and HARD (no pun intended). That boy will crawl up under your skin and forcefully make 2 become 1.

You will be 1. You can fight all you want, but you knew it would end up this way. He will be ripping your emotions out as well as hearts, just for you..

This has got to be the darkest of the Disciples books. And I loved every minute of it.

*5 stars. I rank this book dark grey/dark*

This is a perfect fit and a favourite of me in this series - sometimes awesome just a tiny bit ott into insanity but great in the overall composition - heavy tobacco and not gentle to soul and stomach in times, but those who like it dark will love it.

James and Sophia's story... it was kinda sweet and yet it felt fast-passed. I think this book was the most descriptive in terms of gore. I would recommend avoiding a snap before you star reading the book, even if I'm all in for splatter, torture and all the bloody things, some scenes made me feel a little nauseous.

James

Holy cow! I love James! James sooooo OTT. Sophia is everything to him. Sophia fights James through most of the story. She’s heartbroken by what happened months ago. Lots of action and great to see familiar faces.

James was an interesting and crazy character that held Sophia to undeserved reverence. I would have enjoyed this more without the relationship aspect because I felt nothing for them in that aspect. The banter between James and his crew were the only fun parts of this story.

Sophia was a trash character. She was immature, toxic, and useless. She was irredeemable to me from early on and never got any better as a character throughout this whole ordeal.

This was a painful read and glad it's over with.

I didn't think there will be anyone else crazy as Lucifer but James was a crazy and a psychopath asshole. The fact that they are brothers wasn't a surprise to me.
He was funny, silly and a cold hearted killer.
I cried a little bit for what happened to Sophia. She has been through a lot.

Wow. I wish I could give this book bloody 20 Stars.

I didnt expect to cry reading this while eating my nuggets.... Yes that happened.

This book is just wow. From start to finish I couldn't stop reading.

I felt every emotion possible I cried, I laughed, I was happy, I was angry.

Sophias POV is bloody amazing you feel every emotion and you feel her pain.
James POV is so dark but sinfully sexy and makes you want to go to the dark side.

I never put spoilers in reviews. This book i have already read twice and believe me itll be one them I read time and time again.
I absolutely love The Diciples Series but James and Sophia's book has blown my mind.

How do they do this these books get hotter and action packed each time and they are still perfect in there own way.

I am going through a huge book hangover after reading this.

You dont want to miss out. You will absolutely want to read this book and the whole series!!!

Well Done Sean & Izzy!!! You rock xo

Ugh. I was hoping this would be a winner, but the H is coming off as frenetic and insecure. I’m not loving being in his head. He would be much hotter If his thoughts were a mystery. The H POV is tricky. 😏. Plus the h is scolding him like a child, and he’s just sorta taking it. #notafan

Maybe I’ll try this book later. I may just be all grumpy cat now, which isn’t fair.

The Disciples series of books just mesmerizes me. Each one of the 6 installments focuses on one of the men in this gangster “family,” tells about his unique background, his quirks, his views on life, and the story of how he connected with his love—the woman who becomes his wife. Although each man is unique in various ways, they all seem to share an innate possessiveness over their women, at times to the point of obsession. But given their “day jobs,” and the dangers they face, such possessiveness might be understandable. It is hard for me to merge the two sides of each of these men. Each is so loving, so caring, both as a spouse and a parent. Each also seems to have some form of spiritual beliefs. They seem almost normal. And yet, each are violent monsters. They kill with ease, they torture enemies. They cover-up crimes they and their cohorts commit. They earn money from illegal acts and illegitimate businesses. And they do all they can to protect their hometown from evil greater than themselves. It is difficult to reconcile all of that. That may be part of the attraction to them and their stories, for me anyway. Who doesn’t love a good man with a hidden bad-boy inside?—And vice-versa?

This 6th book, Trapping Sophia, tells the story of Disciple James, and the woman he is obsessed with, Sophia. James is tasked with protecting her. While grieving over the death of her father, a threat to Sophia’s life presents itself. James decides the only way to protect her is to coerce her into staying with him at his house. Sophia is no shrinking violet, and she does put up a righteous fight about going with him, to no avail. Their adjustment to life under one roof is dramatic, often strife-filled, at times comical (with a pet Yorkie and a cat to add to the entertainment), and thoroughly shot-through with sizzling hot, erotic love scenes between them. Sophia is a trusting innocent. James refers to himself as a “bastard.” James was open with her about himself and his violent, “bastard” nature but, still, we weren’t quite sure Sophia believed him until the time came for him to punish the evildoers who harmed her. Then she saw for herself the monster he truly is.

That I do love these books is a bit surprising to me because my threshold for violence/gore is pretty low. It doesn’t take much to wig me out. While there are usually one or two scenes in each of the books where the blood and gore are on full display, such details do not permeate the entire book; not by a longshot. I do not avoid reading those sections in these books, but sometimes I do wince a little. I think it is the skill with which the authors flesh out their characters, and how deftly they reveal the personality nuances of each Disciple, and those of his loved ones, that allows me to bypass the effects of the blood and gore and keeps me enthralled with the books. Humor is also present in good supply and I always enjoy that in my reading. The men amusingly banter back and forth with each other, teasing one another. It is clear, though, they love one another as brothers, and each would give their all to help the others. Note to authors: please don’t make us wait too long for the next story in the series. Five stars.

This series is absolutely one of my favorites. The writers know exactly how to create lovely assholes and when twist the story to make you hold your breath. James and sofia also are one the most hot couple in the series. The tension, the heat, the chemistry between them is outstanding, especially with the unique way of telling story from the writers.
There is something I don't get, though. Why on earth should they write and I read, therefore picturing unbearable torturing scenes involving cutting people, burning them, their screaming in pain and so on much more violent content? I mean shoot the guy and get done with it for god sake😅

3.5⭐️I’m not a fan of how huge of a manho James was and how there was absolutely no talk of him being “clean” before they have sex! I mean grosshe was at least celibate since seeing/rescuing Sophia several months before…other than that another great OTT, crazy psycho killer, touch her you die☠️ Hero! I do love how these guys are so protective of their woman and want to get them pregnant right away…I can’t wait for Amanda’s story…

I needed a pallet cleanser after finishing another story where a MMC is entertaining a group of OW he had a 3some with AFTER being with the FMC and after that cheating fiasco I'm in serious need of an H actually LIKES his heroine.

ANYYYWAYYYY.....

James and Sophia don't have an easy road ahead of them. I'm not sure how to feel about this story considering I LOATHE the VirginxManwhore trope. Also after reading about James' sexcapade in Vegas with the stripper and them getting fucking ENGAGED in Breaking MeredithSimon's story, it's definitely cooled me on James a little. But apparently he's obsessed. Personally I think all women are the same disposable objects to him but Sophia happens to be James' favorite toy.

I wish he showed his devotion to her by taking his time supporting Sophia when she was grieving her father so soon after being violently abducted by the Russians like a few months prior.
But no, he just got impatient with her and was coercing her into sex like a week after her father's death.

Also Sophia moved on way too quickly from James admitting he was wearing boxers to go meet the strippers to they could put $$ in his waistband. DOUBLE STANDARD MUCH?? James went ballistic when Trent so much as even came around Sophia's house but remember when James WASN'T celibate during their separation after the abduction??

James was so quick to make sure Sophia lived in complete sexual isolation by herself but he was fucking a different woman EVERY night during their separation after he rescued her that she had to learn about via pictures.🤮 It's giving ✨FORCED PURITY CULTURE. ✨

But James has an entire folder dedicated to him.

A folder filled mostly with surveillance photos of him with all the women he’s slept with.

He’s a fuckboy. A fuckboy who’s slept with half the women in Garden City.

CEOs, actresses, waitresses.

He’s an equal opportunity manwhore. No woman too rich or too poor to escape his attention.

There are pages of notes, pages of detectives trying to find a pattern or a reason behind his actions. But ultimately, it seems, the only thing the women have in common besides their dark hair is him.

When I first stumbled across the folder, I was shocked. Then hurt. But in the end, everything finally made sense.

How quickly I melted when he kissed me back…

It was from his years of experience seducing women.

The reason he ultimately pushed me away when Simon showed up...

He did it because he knew he couldn’t get away with using me for a quick fuck because of my father’s position.

⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
Virgin h
HUGEEEEEE Manwhore H: its discussed at LENGTH the amount of OW he's fucked in James, Sophia, and Matthew "Lucifer"'s POV
🚩James also has been engaged to his stripper gf in Simon's book but they break up when he gets bored of her and the "girlfriend" experience in Vegas
Kidnapping/ Stalker /Captive Romance
Stockholm Syndrome
Heavy OWD/OMD:
🚩OWD: The many women that James has fucked and the strippers he still goes to visit on "company business" cause a lot of jealousy and issues for Sophia
🚩OMD: Trent is one of the cops that got Sophia's dad killed but he also has serious feelings for Sophia and is obsessed to the point of trying to get her kidnapped and attempting to SA/ coerce her
🚨Heavy Dubcon: James does hold Sophia down in the middle of the night and he does FORCE her to have sex when she's sad over her dad's death
Mentions of parent death
Lots of Violence, gore, and blood
HEA- engaged and expecting a baby

3/5 🌟 Mitzy was a cool little sassy dog and it was an interesting story. I just think that the whole obsessed book boyfriend fell flat when there was so much talk about OW sex with the H and James didn't listen to a SINGLE thing that Sophia wanted. He did kill for her tho so....

Love them all!

If you like bad boys and finally a BAD Girl this series is for you. Murder, mayhem, love and lust all wrapped up with dominance and submission plus some shy I'm probably not supposed to find funny but I do then this series is definitely for you. The writing and story line continuation is on point and the REALLY bad guys suffer from beginning to end. Read this series I promise you'll enjoy it.

"With his weight pushing down on me so I don't float away, I finally fall asleep.
Feeling safe and protected in the cage he's made for me with his body."

This is the sixth instalment in the Disciples series and the story of James and Sophia.
And I think it is by far the best one yet.

The love story of these two has been in the making since Buying Beth, brewing quietly in the background while everyone else was getting their insta-families sorted.
James is the young boy of the family but despite his playful mannerisms and cheeky smile he is still as deadly as all of his brothers, especially somewhere high up with his favourite sniper rifle. And sharing the same blood with Matthew he can be just as cold blooded and ruthless, and just as fearsome if not downright scary.
He had his eyes firmly set on Sophia ever since the rescue mission that brought her from Alexei's slave ring back home to her father. And while unable to pursue this interest because of Sophia's father, the family and this 'totally made up curse', he kept his tabs on her the whole time, making sure from afar she was safe, and very much pining for her.

And this whole time Sophia was unaware she had a stalker (yes, that's what he was doing the last seven months). She encountered James briefly all that time ago but that didn't go so well and ever since then she was doing her best to forget him. She did her research and knew these people who saved her and her friends were not operating on the right side of the law. And living in what was very much a black & white world she knew they were just not meant to be.

Until now. Because her father is dead and everything has changed. And while Sophia is overcome with grief and can barely function dealing with the difficult situation of losing her only family, for James this is a game changer. It means her father is no longer one of the things in the way but also that he is no longer around to protect her. And James is very much here to step up, to take her as his own, to protect her at all cost, to finally claim her.

There is a lot of angst in this story, a lot of grief and emotional pain but it's all worth it.
James is as charming as they come, and he is all that we expect him to be, if not more. He is smart and funny, as dark as they come with his stalking and possessive behaviour, surprisingly emotional for a calculated killer, charming, and sexy with a touch of kinky. And absolutely obsessed.

But can Sophia accept James for who he is and learn to live in his grey world?

"You say those things like that's all there is to life. How would I sleep at night knowing the man beside me is a killer?"
"Like a baby because you know I'm your killer. I'm the one who keeps you safe and keeps our children safe," I say, and I mean it.

This story is a wild ride of emotions, full of grief and resentment, pain and hatred, lust and love.
And it wouldn't be one of the Disciples stories if there wasn't a bit of torture and death too - James is one of the brothers after all. And for them, making their families theirs is never easy, and keeping them safe is always bloody. But it's all worth it in the end.

I very much enjoyed the exciting rollercoaster and was very happy to finally get to know James after all this time. He very much deserves his own story and his own family.
As always there was a lot of banter between the boys, even more so with James being one of the last bachelors. The underlying story of faction wars is still present as we are investigating the death of Sophia's father - the Chief of Police, and unravelling all the details behind his death, including all the dirty cops in the precinct.
And perhaps, this is exactly the final straw that pushes Sophia to accept her new life in the end - because if not all cops are good guys, is it possible that not all criminals are bad guys?

Book Name/Series: Trapping Sophia (Disciples 6)
Author: Izzy Sweet and Sean Moriarty
Standalone?: I would recommend reading this series in order, as they are somewhat connected and there are references to events that happen in previous books as well as characters from the other books in this series.

2 Stars

Summary of the Storyline: Sophia is the daughter of the Chief of Police and the first time she meets James is when he rescues her from human traffickers. She felt inexplicably safe with him, and they share an amazing kiss, but when he immediately turns around and wants nothing to do with her, she feels abandoned. 7 months later her father leaving her completely alone as her mother died several years previously. When James suddenly shows up and demands she come home with him so he can keep her safe, she’s furious. She wants to nothing to do with him and wants to be left alone to grieve. He doesn’t give her much of a choice though, so she tries to ignore the deep attraction she still feels for him. It’s incredibly difficult when he insists that they sleep in the same bed, and that whenever he kisses her, she can’t help but want more.

James has been obsessed with Sophia ever since he met her. For 7 months he has stayed in the shadows and watched over her without her knowledge, but when her father is killed, he steps in to keep her safe. He’s determined to make her his, but she seems intent on denying their attraction.

My Opinion: I was unfortunately not a fan of this book. First, I wasn’t really a fan of either of the main characters and I didn’t feel like Sophia and James truly loved each other. Second, certain parts of the book had a lot of unnecessary detail (such as the torture scenes), but other parts were completely glossed over (like both Sophia and James’ past). Third, I thought the pacing was a bit all over the place; the beginning was quite slow, but then the end was very rushed in my opinion.

However, I will say that Sophia and James did have a few sweet moments that I really enjoyed. I also think that there were parts of the story that were very well written.

Hero: 2/5. I usually love a good anti-hero who will do anything for his girl, but James just didn’t do it for me. Quite a few times throughout the book he came across as a bit deranged. I also didn’t really feel like he loved Sophia, just that he was obsessed with her.
Heroine: 2/5. I wasn’t crazy about Sophia. After spending a few days with James, she seemed to have forgotten that her father had just died, and she was grieving. It also didn’t seem like what she felt for James was love, it seemed more like she eventually become dependent on him and then became a completely different person at the end.

POV: 1st person dual POV (Sophia and James).

Push/Pull:

Sadness: 2/5.

Explicit Sex and Heat Level: Yes. 4/5.

OW (Other Woman)/OM (Other Man) Drama: Yes.

Separation:

Cheating: No.

Closure/Ending: HEA, with an epilogue 7 months into the future.

His obsession

I've enjoyed this series so far, and have been looking forward to James's story. I knew he would push it to another level. Sophia was reluctant to say the least. Her grieve was paramount throughout this story, but together they seemed to heal each other and they worked well together. I loved James's little quotes and banter with all the characters. Lucifer was even present and I liked his caring yet dominant nature towards Sophia. Great read.

The couple: James and Sophia

Romance genre: mafia
Part of a series: Yes (Disciples)
Length:457 pages

Plot: Sophia was part of the group of girls who was kidnapped in order to be sold (Buying Beth). Her dad was the police chief, and with the help of the Disciples, she was rescued. James was part of that help, and he wants Sophia. However, he knows it's a bad idea (or rather Lucifer knows it's a bad idea - a statement which makes no sense at all unless you've read the previous books in the series). But now her dad is dead, and there are people coming after her (for a variety of reasons, one of them ridiculous, as there is a deputy that is in love with her). At least, that's what James believes, and he intends to keep her safe.

Character development: James is over the top jealous/possessive, ridiculously overprotective, and intensely intrusive, and that's why we love him. I don't blame Sofia for holding him at arm's length. After all, I don't think I would want to be reminded about the worst time of my life, even if it involved seeing one of the people that rescued me. Also, did I mention that James is over the top? Because he is. He's also hilarious:

“You think I’d kidnap a girl from her dad’s funeral?” I ask. He stares hard at me for a moment then says, “Yeah.” He’s not wrong. That’s exactly my plan.

My stomach growls again, louder this time, and James laughs into my mouth. “It sounds like two aliens are having sex in your stomach.”

I'm a sucker for a possessive, super hot, funny hero!

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes

I'd give this book 3.5 stars. I almost gave it 4 but some characteristics of Sophia and James ultimately had me dropping off half a star. It was still a solid read from these authors and if you've read any of the other books in the Disciples series and enjoyed this one, you should like the latest installment as well. Note: if you haven't read any novels in this series, you don't need to as it would hold up fine as a standalone. Be warned, though, there are plenty of crossovers as both characters and events from the other books are referred to, so if you're a stickler for starting series from the beginning, you might want to start with Keeping Lily, but you certainly don't have to.

While James has been kicking around this series since the first book, Sophia was introduced in Book 3 with her friends Beth and Amanda when they were kidnapped and about to be sold into a Russian sex trafficking ring. We're given a quick refresher at the start of this novel, as well as the scene where James and Sophia meet, before being shot forward seven months. Sophia's father has just been killed and fearing Sophia is in danger, James takes immediate action by inserting himself into her life. Trying to find out who was responsible for it and keeping Sophia safe pretty much sums up the plot of the book.

This book has the features that make this series popular with its loyal readers. There's an over the top jealous and possessive anti-hero, steamy, intense scenes between our couple, a bit of over the top action revolving around their criminal enterprises and gratuitous violence. There's the instalust/love between the couple as James makes Sophia the centre of his world, not taking no for an answer and setting up a bit of dubious consent around deprivation of liberty as she's not given a choice to go with him. You get to see the usual suspects as Lucifer and his gang of merry men wreak havoc across Garden City as the city's main criminal organisation.

The above elements I just mentioned I liked just fine and are what I love about this series. What gave this book a slightly different feel from the others for me, however, were the characters James and Sophia. While we've seen James muck around, a whole new level of borderline immaturity was transferred onto the pages here. He had a running monologue that spewed out pretty much every thought in his head and made him almost sound a bit socially awkward as well as juvenile. He had a few rants that stopped some of the fluency of the story as they were a bit incoherent and there was some repetition, e.g. she's driving me crazy, I can't live without her, I stalked her, need to protect her, she's my obsession, etc. There just seemed to be a constant diatribe coming from him about this or that that unfortunately took a lot of shine off the bad and dangerous vibe he had projected heavily in previous books. Oh and his constant arousal and protective instinct towards Sophia was laid on thickly, taking off some of that shine I just mentioned as well. Don't get me wrong, I love a possessive alpha but when it's heaped on this much, it starts to become a little too over the top.

Sophia ran along the same lines, making some stupid decisions and contributing to a bit of ridiculous dialogue here and there that made her more annoying than endearing at times. I won't spoil anything here, but she makes a choice as one point that slam dunks her straight into the too stupid to live category. I get that it added drama but you could see it coming a mile off and it was up there with characters of horror movies saying 'I'll be right back'. Add that to her footstomping-esque behaviour and carrying on like a kid in a school yard and she wasn't my favourite character from this series. Don't get me wrong, I didn't hate her, but she annoyed me, too, as did James. Oh, and she's a virgin. Of course she is *insert eye roll here*.

James and Sophia's initial meeting at the start of the book also had me raising my eyebrows. She's just been kidnapped from a sex trafficking ring and initiates a make out session with a stranger after seeing a couple of people shot. I get adrenaline is high but after suffering humiliation and an almost kidnapping I'm going to chuck this into the 'Yeah, nah' category. Speaking of which, there was also mention of who she was being sold to. This went nowhere.

The book was pretty predictable. You know who the antagonists are as plenty of hints are dropped along the way so when it's confirmed there are no surprises. There was also very little lead up to the who dunnit and their solving of who was involved was entirely too convenient and easy but the action that followed it was good. I loved the dialogue between the team in the book, particularly anything to do with Simon. His being a germaphobe lends itself to heaps of entertaining banter. If you don't like pets featuring heavy in books, considered yourself warned because James and Sophia mention their animals so much they're basically their own characters. We get it - they love their pets. Sophia is also apparently the dog whisperer as the dog barks to communicate with her and show her something in the house. Riiiiight. James later compares himself with the cat so I guess it evens out? There's also a little bit of an overlap with Book 5, but as a said above you don't need to have read it.

There were a couple of steamy scenes but I found most of the book revolved around James wanting to keep Sophia. There was a strange scene where we see James had handcuffs installed on his bed and red lights to illuminate his room, so there was that, too, because nothing says I need to call the police like a guy who's that prepared to tie someone up.

It was an over the top read like the others but I wish James and Sophia would have stayed a bit truer to the bad-a$$ characters that the other books had as they didn't quite gel to the series' themes and it took them too far over the edge. Oh, and the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. Eeep. I still liked it even though it took me a bit longer to read than the others because I couldn't solidly get into it at times. Speaking of which, it was a great length, probably helped along by all those monologues of James and Sophia's lol. I'll still definitely be one-clicking the next book in the series when in comes out because even though it sounds like I've had my own rant, it was still an entertaining story and I enjoy these authors.

I fell in love with James almost immediately- he was the young, slightly (okay, really) immature little brother of the group. He was crazy, always there as backup and obsessed with Sophia from the second he met her. The lengths he went to protect her- any female would be so lucky. As much as I love this book, Sophia, though is not my favorite heroine. James bends over backwards for her, caters to her, her cat and Mitzy (she’s awesome!- I cannot give spoilers though!!!). Sophia, on the other hand, doesn’t listen to him and has a really tstl moment - I honestly almost threw my kindle. No joke. Seeing Amanda again - it’ll be interesting to see how she turns out. And Jude! I really need his book next- pretty please?????? This can be a stand-alone, but I highly highly recommend you reading it in order so that you understand all the family dynamics and jokes.

As happens in these series that go on and on... they start to get really bad ... like the author is faxing it in. I really can't tell the guys in this series apart anymore... they're all basically carbon copies of each other. And this female character was about as 2 dimensional as they get... what did she do for work or school? what does she like to do for fun? What did she do for the 7 months after her father's death... how was that time filled? etc etc. This is the worst written female character so far in any book in this series. Now time to go read the next one.
