A DEADLY MISSION ON AN UNCHARTED WORLD RIDDLED WITH ANCIENT SECRETS On his last job, Cade Korbin lost his ship, lost his credits, and barely escaped with his life, but it’s not over. His enemy is still out there, nursing a decades-old vendetta that has yet to be quenched. Making matters worse, his guild is coming after him for breaking their rules.
Cade desperately needs credits and somewhere to lie low for a while. To that end, he takes a job on an uncharted world, code-named Nexus, with his new partner. The mission is to rescue a team of missing researchers and to recover the alien artifacts they went searching for.
But Nexus proves to be even deadlier than its Class Five hazard rating would suggest, and Cade soon realizes that he’ll be lucky to escape with his life, let alone accomplish the mission.
Yet there is a danger on Nexus that goes far beyond hungry alien monsters: a terrifying menace has been waiting there for untold eons to emerge.

Cade found his daughter and lost his ship. Now, being broke he needs a new contract that will earn him some much needed bucks. On some remote planet fifteen scientists are stranded and need to be rescued. As he and his daughter Rama leave earth to get on their way they're in for a surprise. And it won't be the last one. The least one meeting old aquaintances. Nothing is what it seems at first and the reader will turn the pages until the end. An awesome adventure!
This is a very good series. It's very interesting and written where you like the main character very much. He's human and trying to be a tough guy, but he's not all that tough, just when he needs to be. Cade Korbin recently found out that he's a Father and his Daughter, Rama has been kind of following in his footsteps. Cade is a Bounty Hunter, one of the best, and his Daughter is right there close to his proficiency even though she hasn't been a Bounty Hunt anywhere near as long as Cade. Cade and Rama, along with an Cyborg/Human named Aurora, have been through a very serious episode that involved some revenge from something Cade did in his past. You'll want to read the first book, "The Bounty Hunter", to get all the details on that story.
Now Cade and his Daugher, Rama, have decided to take a break from Bounty Hunting and are going on a mission to rescue some scientist that are stuck on a Class 5 planet. A Class 5 planet is one that is very, very dangerous to humans and should be avoided. Cade also wants to return Aurora's ship to her and try to square things with her so she won't kill him outright. She did miss out on a six-million dollar bounty by not killing Cade when she first saw him. Anyway, they are in Rama's starship heading for Auroras ship when they are highjacked by what appears to be a Coalition military ship. Commanding that ship is Captain Davin Greaves, a former commander of Cade's. He tells them that he has a need for their services and if they want to go anywhere near the planet that the scientist are on, they'll have to go with him and his crew. That planet is strictly prohibited for civilians.
So, Cade is very confused as to why his former Commander would need a dishonored former Paladin to help on a mission, especially after he finds out that aboard this Coalition ship is an entire team of Paladins lead by a Chief Forge. He finds out that this team has been going on very unsuccessful mission to the mysterious planet already and need something that wasn't available until now. Cade, Rama and Aurora are all three drafted to go on the next mission to the planet. This planet, called Nexus, has some kind of intelligence guarding it. It also has some very vicious native wild-life which has been tearing up the Paladin team every time they have landed. Cade and his team are subjected to repetitive mission sims in which they find out just how dangerous this planet really is. They have never had a successful simulated mission yet. Still, they are going down to the planet.
There seems to be some kind of artifact on the planet that is controlled from there that makes this planet doubly dangerous. The ring around the planet was built by the "Priors", an advanced ancient civilization, now extinct. That ring will shoot down any large shuttle or starship attempting a landing. So the combined team from the Coalition starship go down quickly in a small shuttle. What happens now is hard to believe. Still it involves something totally unexpected. Why Cade and Rama have to be involved does finally come to light, but it's a hard thing to swallow if it's even true.
The story is very well written and the story line from the first book fits even though they are not the same story. Each has it's own scenes and works very well. This is somewhat surprising since previous Jasper T. Scott books have sometimes been very confusing and highly technical. I will continue read the series and look forward to Book 3, "Paragon".
What a ride! Jasper brings a future espionage space thriller that started off, right where we ended in book 1. The endless possibilities that are presented are almost unbelievable but take us on an action packed adventure. Book 2 wasn’t at the same pace as the first but it still didn’t stop me from putting it down until the third part. After following Cade, his daughter and Aurora on an adventure to save the galaxy, we hit part 3 and I had to stop reading just to get my mind right. While I understood Cade’s history, I really didn’t see this big surprise coming. Jasper really lured me into thinking that book 1 was final and book 2 was starting a new adventure but the past always catches up with us, especially in a galaxy with in limitless possibilities.
Adventure, action, and so many unexpected twists and turns that I had trouble putting it done. Just don’t touch this one until you have read the first book.
Cade Korbin is now reunited with his daughter Rama. On there way to recover Aurora's ship they are intercepted by a coalition warship. Cade meets up will his ex boss from when he was a Paladin who explains he and his daughter and Aurora will be joining a group of Paladins on a rescue mission on the uncharted planet of Nexus. What follows is a fight for there lives against all manner of alien creatures while they try to reach the scientists they have been sent to rescue. But not everything is as it seems. Full of twists and turns and surprises and Cade meets someone he never expects to see again. First rate story great scene building creating a completely alien world. Definitely recommend
Cade maintains his suspicious nature and hi paranoia is confirmed. Rams and Aurora partner with him in a dangerous contract but are forced to fulfill it with a group from his past . It is a great story of lies deception and betrayal that will hold your interest
A great story, book two has kept the pace from book one and managed to build on it still further. The characters are developing nicely with all new betrayals visited upon them as they pursue ever more dangerous objectives.
Why I read Science fiction, to be entertained, and I was thoroughly entertained. I place you in the same category of my other favorite Authors.... Asimov...Deitz... Niven...you all never disappoint me with your stories, keep doing what you doing and I'll keep enjoying what you're doing.
I absolutely loved this book. I was swept along with trying to figure out who was human (meatbag), clone, bot, or something in-between. For this futuristic setting, to find that there are guilds to "take care of" people is a little disturbing, but at least our hero does private work and decides for himself if an individual is worth terminating. Free will ... at least for a while. I love the circumstances of where he finds himself and how quickly his mind works to try to connect the dots. Jasper T Scott has brought me on a wonderful ride and I can't wait for the next book in this new series.
Okay, this book is weird. The author wants us to get introspective about what is appropriate killing and what is not. There's the old Nuremburg issue of whether killing because of an order from your superiors is righteous or not. What if the person doesn't really die? I disagree with the author, but there is no good answer. So we start with a busted mission. Then we have to escape. There are players whose motivation are unknown. There are physical limitations on what can be done, and there are unexpected consequences. The book is essentially boring for the first half. We find a Xeno, but it's not very interesting, and it's not very smart. We get rescued from an uncharted planet under unexplained and unusual circumstances. We go for a grand invasion using the resources of people we just met, and they say yes?!? It's a bust so we get captured?!? We're off for a suicide mission, but things are strange. Then they get stranger. Everybody stabs everyone in the back, so we all become friends. All except for our old weird friend who reneges on his promise. What's up with him? No one but the Orange robot knows for sure.
With this second book in the series, Mr. Scott is hitting his stride, and I found this one more absorbing than the first one. While the first one was good enough to read the second, I felt in the first that everything came a bit too easy for Cade, although he tossed a nice twist into the story in the middle of the book.
This one, Cade is more challenged, and I liked how Jasper broke the book into separate sections. Some more good twists - and when he tosses one in, I think I should have seen that coming - but I never do.
I like his characters. He fleshes them out pretty well, and they feel authentic. Even when you don't get a lot about a particular character, you feel like there's more under the hood than you're seeing. I like the internal reasoning that Cade often goes through in trying to understand those around him, and I hope to see more of Aurora. She might even deserve her own spinoff.
Well worth the read, and I burned through the book in a day and a half.
Twists and turns and surprises abound in the second book in this series, kinda' like "Oh, no, my new girl friend is my Dad's 3rd ex-wife, who everyone thought was killed in a hang gliding accident in Papua New Guinea on Christmas Day and many believed she was captured and eaten by the last remaining cannibals who also collect feathers from Wilson's Bird of Paradise."
And I loved it!
Mr. Scott's ideas about future technologies are great and plausible, most of the time. Plus, he is an excellent story-teller. I am looking forward to reading Book 3 in the Cad Korbin Chronicles. (Let's hear it for alliteration!)
I always look forward to new releases by Jasper T. Scott and this one does not disappoint. I am looking forward to the third book in this series.
Jasper keeps the action fast paced and plot twists well integrated into his novels. His characters are well developed and multidimensional. He keeps the science fiction light on the “science” side and incorporates them as plot devices and elements of action without bogging down in unnecessarily detailed theories of operation.
Alien Artifacts (Cade Korbin Chronicles Book 2) is the perfect follow-up
Quite a few surprises in Book 2! It seems that Cade Korbin is buring his candle at both ends, or is it a stick of dynamite? I mean some sort of explosive nanotechnology. Anyway, if things don't blow up in his face, there may be shiny silvery lining to this adventure. I am a fan of author Jasper T. Scott's writings and enjoyed reading Book 2 of Alien Artifacts. Now on to Book 3, Cade Korbin Chronicles! -Mr.Bill
Very good book, fast paced plenty of action. This book has a lot of twists and turns so that it’s quite Machiavellian in its nature. What I didn’t like was seeing the hero of the book the main protagonist get stiffed again. Yes we want to see our heroes go through some trials but at least give them something in the end for all the travails.
This is an exceptional harrowing thrill ride as Cade, Rama and Aurora find themselves roped into a deadly adventure with a rugged crew heading to an alien world called Nexus- a beautifully deceptive planet that is home to some wildly dangerous creatures and memorizing, convoluted rift gates that makes this outdoor survival trip to find the secrets surrounding the ancient Priors all the more terrifying. And excruciatingly deadly. Buried within the world also are truths for Cade about a woman he deeply care for and will change everything in Case's future. Highly recommended.
This was a very interesting book. With the characters fighting elements as well as different vicious life forms. They are also keeping secrets from each other which also causes problems in completing their mission.
The first part of the book is an update on what happened in book 1. The next part gets to where you are going. The final section is on the planet where all hell brakes loose. I liked the book.
Well that wasn't bad. I've not finished several of Scott's books so was surprised I enjoyed book one and now book 2 in this series. It's better than 3 stars but a little less than 4 so I rounded up. The story is interesting & has several surprises to keep your interest.
Can’t put down this series. Page turner doesn’t quite capture the reality of it. Great book and characters. Sadly it must end sometime, but loving the ride along the way!
I don't often leave reviews, except for my wife's books, but I really enjoyed reading this, and look forward to reading the next. Lots of twists and turns, right up to the last page!
If you like adventure in space, this is the book for you. There is lots of action and some great characters that not only hate each other but also love each other. And some characters even just put up with each other. Enjoy!
Read now if you enjoyed cade korbins adventures in book one you will love it in book 2. There are few twists and turns throughout the story and a few surprises at the end which are good enough to surprise you. Read and enjoy.
