The Deadening is the start to a brand new series, Olivia Callahan Suspense, written by Kerry Peresta.

Olivia Callahan's life had been neat and orderly. Or at least, that's what she's been told. Those memories were lost when she was attacked. One day in a hospital, she woke up having no idea what happened to her or even who she was.

She survived, and she will persevere. Getting her life back is going to be a battle, much like the fight for her life and her health. Olivia is more than up for the t

This book was fascinating. I couldn’t put it down. It was a great whodunnit read – but I still felt like I had a few questions by the end (one in particular I just can’t seem to answer!).

Despite this one small question, this book had fantastic descriptions, suspense, and insight into the mysteries of one’s brain (i.e. who we might be as a person when you take away the manipulations we’ve face by the hands of others). The new Olivia Callahan (read below for explanation) is someone I’d love to mee

The Deadening is a suspense novel by Kerry Peresta. It's the first book from the Olivia Callahan Suspense series.

Olivia Callahan woke up in Mercy hospital paralyzed, blind, and with amnesia. No one knew who she was and what had happened to her. She was
identified when her mother reported her missing and the news showed her picture. In just a week she was making huge progress and she
was named "Mercy's Miracle". Five weeks later, after an immense re

In The Deadening, the first book in the Olivia Callahan Suspense Series, author Kerry Peresta weaves a suspenseful tale that follows the challenges that Olivia Callahan faces as she puts the pieces of her life back together after a traumatic assault.

Olivia is found with a serious head injury by a med tech on the grounds of Mercy Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Comatose, blind, with a traumatic brain injury, and paralyzed, Olivia doesn't have any identification on her, and is classified as a Jane

The Deadening is the first book in the new Olivia Callahan Suspense series, I actually fell in love with this book and author which I had never read before. Suspense thrillers are one of my favorite genres and this book certainly was filled with lots of twists and turns. Olivia wakes up in a hospital, paralyzed, blind and with no idea who she is or what happened to her. What follows is a intriguing storyline that takes us all on a journey as Olivia searches for answers. As Olivia slowly begins t ...more

As always I want to give a shout out to #NetGalley, and author #KellyPeresta for the ARC of #TheDeadening. Thank you so much!

As I started reading this I was immediately gripped by a need to know what happened to Olivia. She is laying in a hospital bed seemingly unable to respond to doctors and nurses trying to help her. She received a head wound and has no identification so no one knows who she is or what happened to her.

Fortunately with the love and patience of a sweet nurse named Sarah she b

Kerry Peresta delivers a well-written slow-burn psychological suspense as protagonist Olivia Callahan struggles to regain her memory after an assault lands her in the hospital. As she recovers, Olivia embraces a fresh, independent, and outspoken identity — one that is paradoxically different than the demure housewife who a mugger left on the lawn of a local hospital.

With the help of her mother, daughters, and potential love interest, Olivia attempts to navigate divorce proceedings left unfinish

The Deadening is a fast-paced book that picks up speed as it goes towards the end of the book. The author did a fantastic job of keeping the fast pace up throughout the book. There was a tiny bit of lag in the middle of the book, but I expected that. The author could pick up the pace again and keep it going until the end of the book.

I loved Olivia, even though I wished that more of her “before” the author showed her accident. The way she handled Monty was golden (and it was even better knowing h

I generally enjoyed this psychological mystery. I was glad it is not a scary thriller in that Olivia's life is in physical danger rarely. We readers try to solve the mystery of her experience right along with Olivia and there was a compelling nature to how information came to light. I felt Peresta did a great job with the trauma and the remembering of events in bits and pieces.

I generally liked the mystery too. I do wish there had been some hints or a little foreshadowing. When the final clues a

I have to say when this book started with someone scrubbing up blood, my attention was instantly grabbed.

This read did not disappoint. I felt like the book was a perfect blend of Olivia’s recovery, her personality transition, and the mystery behind Olivia’s initial assault.

I loved the progression of Olivia’s change in personality. I also thought the secondary characters were well defined and a few characters that really stayed with me included: Nurse Sarah who originally cares for a severely in

I wasn’t sure about this book, but the summary was intriguing and I am glad that I decided to read this one. Olivia Callahan has been attacked and wakes up in the hospital as a “Jane Doe”. From a missing person notification, she is finally identified, but she has no idea who she is or who would want to kill her. The first suspect is always the husband, and they are going through a divorce, but she can’t believe he would try to kill her. Slowly as her memory returns, she realizes that she is no l ...more

I’ve read a few I don’t remember my past thrillers as of late, but this is the best of the bunch. Olivia wakes up in a hospital not knowing who she is or how her injury happened. I was fascinated as we were taken down a path of Olivia experiencing her past slowly coming back to her. Interacting with the hospital staff when she didn’t know who she was, her family and soon to be ex husband when she’s told who she is and doesn’t remember, and the police trying to solve her case.

I liked this book. It is on the lighter side of the mystery suspense spectrum. I would place it in the middle of cozy mystery and psychological thriller. So, this book would be a good one for readers who like mystery books without all the gore.

This story started out really good. Instantly, I was drawn into it and could not stop reading. That is not to say that I did not like this book but after about a third of the way into this story; I found my interest waver a little and go down slightly.

WOW, what a thrill-ride!! Well deserving of 5 stars!!

I loved this book. Great characters, believable story arc … and a few good clever twists.

I could feel Olivia's pain, fear and frustration as she navigated her way in this book, coming to terms with who she was and trying to find her memories, and in essence, herself. I felt quite proud of her.

The author also did a good job of capturing the essence of the peopl

This is a must-read book. The haunting trauma of a woman who suffered head injury. She was in a coma and had to relearn how to walk and talk. Due to the extent of her injuries, she has no memories of her pending divorce nor her family members. She doesn't recall her life.

What is so compelling is watching her regain memories of her life prior to being left at the hospital, but who committed this heinous activity. The book captivated me. The author wrote a story that takes you on a journey with an

In The Deadening, Kerry Peresta delivers a thrilling, psychologically driven suspense novel. As Olivia Callahan tries to unravel the circumstances behind a brutal attack that’s left her physically and emotionally scarred, the author takes us on an unpredictable and genuinely moving journey into the nature of memory and how it forms our sense of self. The characters are finely drawn, and their complex relationships are rendered with a sympathy that never veers into sentimentality. I highly recomm ...more

Olivia was found near dead on the hospital grounds. When she wakes up from her coma she has amnesia.
This is her journey as she pieces together the puzzle of her past life and those who have tried to kill her.
A fabulous story you won't be able to put down!

Suspense, mystery, dysfunction, love, despair, anxiety, blood, devotion, anticipation - literally sweating through this book at each turning page. I had to actively ignore my family for a day or two so that I could finish this book and know the ending! Living in Maryland, and familiar with Hilton Head, the intricate details painted a vibrant picture in between the shock and awe that were the twists and turns of Olivia's life and her 'rebirth'. 5 stars - cannot wait for the next book! ...more

Olivia was assaulted and had a serious brain injury that made her lose her memory. Olivia didn't remember who she was, her family, and her friends.
This book has many interesting twists. I don't like Monty Callahan. Riot the cat is my favorite character.

I really enjoyed this book.
The characters in it are written so you feel you know them and can hear them, not something all authors can do.
You feel you have worked out what is going to happen or how it will end and them boop, another twist to make you wonder.
Would love to read more by this author

Has everything you could want in a book that hooks you from the very start:
Mystery, suspense, romance , lies , a douchebag,
and will keep you guessing on who done it . With each turn of the page I grew to love Olivia more but I also grew to hate the douchebag and couldn't wait to see him get what was coming to him.

I received this book as an ARC on and want to thank them the publishers and the author for the chance to read it and provide a review.

The main reason I prefer to read suspense thrillers is that you spend most of the book trying to figure out what happened, where the story is going and how things will end up. In The Deadening, you are on this path along with the protagonist. You the reader are putting the pieces together along with Olivia as she tries to uncover the events that led
