I read the book 'Almost Mortal' by Christopher Leibig during lockdown last year and I was psyched when I came to know that it's sequel was on its way. One read and I was already gaping at the ingenious character of Samson Young, his gravitational personality and his skills to solve a case. This book dealt with a serial killer.
The second book 'Almost Damned' in the row came out and I was a little worried especially after the blurb spoke about mystical elements. I wasn't quite sure of how both would relate to law. But as soon as I dived into the novel, I was stuck in the pages, unable to pull my eye out of it.
Wonderfully written in exceptional language, this book revolves around a criminal defense attorney, Samson Young who has the psychic ability to read the minds of his clients. Is it actually a blessing now? Such questions riddled my mind and I scrambled through the pages, trying to rid my conscience of the multiple questions. Here, a courtroom full of mortals and Samson is seen to defend fallen angels, who weren't even visible! This story, rightly described, was born way ahead of its time. A beautiful conjecture of mortal, immortal and heavenly beings, Young soon finds out an interconnection between his old and new clients. By what means will he be able to solve the case?
The author uses his experience as a full-time defense attorney to paint the picture of a man, who with his intellect solves troublesome cases and awes millions. His reference to the Bible was also inspired. Overall, a good fat 5 would suffice. If you're a thriller-lover, grab a copy today!
