“I would like these pages to assist our prayer and lead us closer to Christ,” writes Monsignor Fernando Ocáriz in the introduction to his book. Through 120 short texts, it aims at helping the reader to meditate on the Gospel with an attentive and contemplative attitude. The author takes the perspective of a person who prays as a child of God. In such prayer, the sense of divine filiation becomes a strong impulse in daily life. By reflecting on it frequently, we identify ourselves ever more closely with Jesus, Son of the Father. This leads to a truer relationship with God our Father, and in turn, a greater love for all others.

This is a collection of short meditations following the order of Jesus’s life and teachings from Mgr Ocariz. They start as far back as 1977 but go up to the present day and include text from his recent letters as Prelate of Opus Dei and his pastoral messages. It is designed to help the reader enter into the gospels in meditative prayer rather than read it straight through like a spiritual reading book. As ever with Mgr Ocariz, his writing is succinct but has great depth to it. He definitely succeeds in helping you enter into the gospels and really ponder the life of Christ. One to keep revisiting in your prayer time and again.
Splendid series of very brief reflections on the Gospel or other Scripture verses. They originate from the late 1970s all the way to 2020. Each reflection is a few paragraphs and contains just enough of a thought to consider and pray about. This book is perfect for bringing to your prayer, which I exactly what I did. Highly recommended!
