This book comes in a luxurious folder containing 20 cards to assist with identifying stars. It is a high quality product and good value for the price. It would make an excellent gift for a novice star gazer. It is very suitable for children. The book is a bit thin on details but does give an interesting cultural history of each star. 20 stars are covered which includes all the most famous stars and some that can only be seen in the southern or northern hemisphere.
Holes are punched in the cards to show the stars. In my edition I needed to push out the punchings in order to use the cards. The idea is to shine a light through the holes onto the floor so you know what you are looking for.
The problem with stargazing is that it has to be done in the dark. I wandered around my garden shining a light through the holes onto the floor then looking up. I struggled to find the constellations but I blame myself rather than this book. I spent so long looking up I got neck ache, and as a consequence of wandering around the garden in the dark looking up I fell over a tree stump and twisted my ankle. It probably didn't help that I tried to do my star gazing on a Saturday evening after returning from the pub. A number of lessons were learned but possibly not the ones intended by this book.

This is a small but informative book that recognizes some of the main constellations, which is an incredible tool to recognize features of the night sky. It also came with some cool cards with the constellations on them that you’re supposed use to recreate the stars with a flashlight, which I haven’t tried but sounds pretty cool. Only complaint is that the table of contents is off due to a misprint which is a little annoying, but most likely why it was on sale.

"Estrellas. Una guía práctica sobre las principales constelaciones" es algo más que un libro. Se trata de un pack que cuenta con un práctico libro y 20 tarjetas de constelaciones perforadas (luego veremos cómo se usan las tarjetas perforadas). El libro contiene información concisa sobre algunas de las constelaciones más importantes de nuestro cielo: Orión, Osa Mayor, Osa Menor, Boyero, Casiopea, Cisne, Tauro, Perseo, Auriga, Lira, Escorpio, Hércules, Andrómeda, Géminis, Sagitario, Ofiuco, Virgo, Erídano, Hidra y Ballena. Cada constelación viene ilustrada y con textos de caracter científico y mitológico. Además, el autor también incluye algún matiz filosófico de las constelaciones (ya que a pesar de que Mark Westmoquette tiene un doctorado en astronomía, fue exmonje zen). Con respecto a las tarjetas perforadas, son un extraordinario recurso que antecedió a los modernos programas de astronomía. Se usan con una linterna para proyectar a escala en una pared blanca o en el suelo la forma de la constelación.

Creo que este es un precioso regalo para todos los amantes de las estrellas y las constelaciones que les hará reflexionar de una manera que nunca habían imaginado al lado de la información científica de cada uno de los astros que esta obra contiene. Además, me parece muy interesante este recurso de tarjetas perforadas, las cuales pueden ser muy interesantes para la divulgación de la astronomía en lugares donde no es posible acceder a programas digitales.

Constellations est un coffret parfait pour les fans d'astronomie, mais aussi de mythologie. J'adore regarder les étoiles le soir, et les étoiles filantes lors des pics ! En dehors de la Grande et Petite Ourse, et d'Orion, j'ai du mal à les reconnaître. Grâce aux 20 cartes perforées qu'il suffit de mettre devant une source de lumière pour faire apparaître les étoiles, on peut apprendre à les repérer dans le ciel, et à quelle période de l'année ! Avec se trouve un livret qui évoque des évènements scientifiques, culturels et mythologiques sur chaque constellation. On y retrouve des anecdotes, des légendes de peuples du monde entier, de la philosophie et des événements célestes qui composent les constellations (étoiles, galaxies, amas..). C'est plutôt bien vulgarisé pour des novices et ça fait réfléchir sur l'immensité de ce qui nous entoure et dont on ne connait vraiment pas grand chose, c'est vertigineux d'imaginer des galaxies près des étoiles que l'on voit d'ici ! J'ai hâte de sortir ce coffret pour les prochains soirs sous les étoiles !

Me parece un libro estupendo. El formato de estuche con las cartas perforadas es ideal para llevar en el bolso o en una mochilita, me encanta apuntar con la linterna y ver colo se forman las constelaciones. Si te encanta mirar el cielo este libro es ideal.

El libro con la información de las constelaciones es breve pero a la vez narra muy bien los detalles mas importantes, además de proporcionar un mensajito de filosofía que aplicar en el dia a dia.

Sin duda se ha convertido en una jouita de mi librero, uno de los libros que cuando alguien nuevo llega a mi casa enseño (si sale a colación mi colección del libros).

ik was er drie jaar geleden in begonnen en had het nooit uitgelezen. uit koppigheid heb ik nu de laatste pagina's snel doorgelezen, zodat het eindelijk bij mijn gelezen boeken kan. ik vind het meer een boek waarin je snel dingen kan opzoeken als je iets wil weten maar nogal saai als je het zo leest. opzich wel een goed boek hoor, interessant

Boek voor mijn verjaardag gekregen een tijdje geleden. Leuke informatie maar soms een beetje oppervlakkig en heel herhalend qua structuur waardoor ik niet per se de feiten onthoud. De structuur is anderzijds wel prettig wanneer je iets wil weten over een specifiek sterrenpatroon.

Nice book if you want to start stargazing and know little or nothing about constellations and how to identify them. It shows the main constellations in the sky, both from the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere, and a brief explanation about them. There are also special cards with holes in them to represent the constellation, so you can use a flashlight in a dark room to show them on a wall or the ceiling.

Très bon livre avec de belles cartes des constellations, l'idée de présenter les constellations d'un point astronomique et mythologique est brillant.
Un peu plus septique sur la relevance de la partie "astrologie" conseils de vie qui est à mon sens superflue
