An integrative approach to support your health and well-being
While Western medicine often relies on a one-size-size-fits-all approach to treating depression, Ayurveda offers an individualized, holistic model that draws upon five thousand years of scientific knowledge and practice to address depression systemically--restoring balance and nourishing mind, body, and spirit.
The Ayurvedic anti-depression protocols outlined in this book can work alone or in concert with conventional therapies to help you develop a tailored plan that meets your unique needs. You'll learn how to identify your inborn and mental constitutions ( prakruti and manas prakruti ) to better understand the root causes of your condition. This book will empower you to create daily and seasonal routines using dietary adjustments, mind-body training, and herbal remedies to reawaken your body and cultivate the wisdom needed to heal from depression.
This is one of the best descriptions of Ayurveda I have ever read. The author has a great talent for explaining concepts, both scientific and Ayurvedic. The only reasons it took me so long to read it were that ebooks aren’t my favorite medium (probably should but the hard copy sometimes) and I wasn’t dealing with depression anymore. I picked it up because I had previously dealt with years of depression AND I really like learning about Ayurveda. The author is so good that I recently picked up a paper copy of his newer book on Ayurveda and weight loss. Some of the information is the same, but it’s all written so engagingly even though the material has the potential to be confusing. I was not a newcomer to Ayurveda, but still learned a lot. The structure and sequence of the chapters made it easy to follow and build on concepts, and I loved all the short quotations from yogic texts.
Overall, this book is a wonderful discussion of Ayurveda and western science on overcoming depression and becoming more healthy in general. The concepts in this book helped me better understand myself and how my body works.
