Small towns thrive on gossip, and as the owner of the local bar, I consider myself keeper of those secrets. The bar is like a confessional, a place to unload. My sanctuary where my secrets stay hidden and the focus is never on me.

I keep my world orderly. None of the bad touching the good. Little dividers allow me to live with myself, which isn’t easy in Arrowood.

Second chance, best friend's brother

I'll be honest, I spent the first 30% grimacing at everything Sage did. He came across as pushy, spoiled and shallow and at one point I wasn't sure if I could keep reading because he just rubbed me the wrong way. At about 30%, you realise there's a lot more to him and we get some character growth a la Schitt's Creek (there's a definite Schitt's vibe with this book, in the best way), so hang in there, it's worth the wait.

I found this book to be engaging, laugh

Ooh I was so there for the hate-love pull of Sage and Adam’s relationship. It is well done, from the writing and pacing, to the solid character development. I’ll admit that I found Sage to be a tad irritating and pushy towards Adam in the first part of the book. But, the character growth kicks in when he learns of Adam’s past trauma and he is then sweet and patient. His sharp tongue made me laugh out loud as well! But that was nothing compared to the craziness of Adam’s parents as they went all ...more

3.5*s of small town gossiping over a new romance

This is the third book in the series (1, 1.5, 2). It deals with the final brother, the one who no one is sure about, as no one has ever seen Adam show any interest in anyone. Until Cody's NY gallery owning brother, Sage comes to town. Suddenly Adam can't cope with all the feels. It is a rollercoaster, which we don't really get a good understanding of why for quite a while.

I had a hard time getting into this one if I'm being perfectly truthful. I really didn't feel the chemistry between the two MCs. It felt very forced. Adam, whom has been through a trauma, has spent his life alone. He hasn't hooked up with anyone due to fear and anxiety and when he finally does try it's with his best friends brother whom is a known man whore. It just didn't add up. Adam kept insisting Sage was the only one he had ever felt attraction for, but it is never explained what attracted ...more

I loved that Adam got his own book. Having known of him in books one and two, it was time for his story. We always find that Adam is a loner, never to have feelings or desires for anyone, except for a brief encounter with the ultra sheik Sage that stayed with him for years, yet it was something that he ran from as well. Ever flamboyant and shocking, there was more to Sage than met the eye. The passive/aggressive game that Adam played with Sage enticed him to push for more. Sage was down on his l ...more
First things first: I love this cover! Really very pretty ;)

So then on to my review of the contents...
Honestly, this book confused me a bit.
This was my first read by J.R. Gray, so I'm not so familiar with his writing style and his voice. Maybe that's what was my problem here.

He touched a sensitive topic and did that quite gently, which I appreciated.
But...I couldn't really feel the characters in this book. I enjoyed Sage's wit and banter and his sassiness (which was one of the reasons to rate

I have been waiting for Adam’s book and J.R. Gray did not disappoint. Crossed Hearts is book 3 in the Arrowood series. Each book in the series tells the story of a different brother (Aiden, Avery and Adam) each of them navigating through life with their own secrets, demons and desires all while being in the unrelenting eye of small town gossips. Crossed Hearts, as mentioned, is Adams’ book. We were introduced to Adam in book #1, Secret Daddy. I instantly wanted to know what made him tick. He own ...more

3.5 Stars

Another low drama quick read that I greatly enjoyed. Adam and Sage's enemies to lovers romance was filled with all the feels. Just as surprised as Sage, I didn't see this high-maintenance city boy fit into this gossipy small town of Arrowood. However, there was a big heart hid under this diva who would melt down any walls. A easy read for an easy afternoon.

When JR Gray first started the Arrowood series I was hoping that we would see Adams book. I was enticed by the mystery of the of this broody bartender. Way to hit it out of the park! Adam is demi sexual, meaning he needs to have a connection with someone. That someone just happens to be his best friends little brother Sage. While at first we realize that Sage has had a very sheltered life, he comes from money and that can put some people off just from that fact alone. One of the things that I do ...more

Every time I think JR Grey has published his best book, he comes out with a better one. Crossed Hearts is a story of love and attraction. New Years kisses, missing parents, uncertain sexuality, all lead to a story of love involving a gruff bar owner with a constant point count of who is his best friend, a best friend's brother who is into makeup and frills and had a deep aversion. You feel like part of the family, getting to know Adam's friends and family. The love story between Adam and Sage is ...more

Skip this one!

I enjoyed the previous books in this series, but didn’t like this one at all! There really wasn’t much of a plot, and what was there was over the top. I didn’t like any of the characters, which was odd because we’ve already met most of these people, but they all came off as jerks in this book. Both sets of parents were beyond awful. Sage was just annoying. Adam seems to have mental issues, but a boyfriend is a cure for them? He seriously threatens to kill people, he overreacts to e

Emotionally packed read

The third book in the series, Crossed Hearts ties up the trilogy about 3 brothers and their quest for love. Sam and Sage are adorable together and although it takes awhile for them to straighten out their relationship when they do it’s easy to see how in love they are. I liked that the author added in a little hitch in the road with Sam’s past and found it endearing how Sage helped him work through it. While you don’t have to read books 1 and 2 to enjoy this one, reading t

Loved this series and I think Adam and Sage’s story was my favourite. They were so opposite they might as well be from two different planets. Sage is a diva to the core and Adam is so broody/mountain man/nice. He lives a simple life in Arrowood and Sage is a materialistic spoiled brat from New York City. And they had a bit of a past. A past that scares Adam to the core. Adam’s past is heartbreaking and he has been closed off for so long so his journey is incredible to read. And who should have t ...more

More than it seems

On the surface, this is a continuation of a small town series and this time it’s Adam, the peculiar bar owner who bans people from his bar if they annoy him. Sage annoys him, but refuses to be banned and romance ensues. On a deeper level, it’s the story of why Adam is so angry and avoids relationships. It’s also that characters like Sage have surprising depth and aren’t always what they seem. This is why I keep reading Gray’s books.

We finally see Adam and the crazy inner workings of his banned from the bar system. It takes an out-of-towner for the last brother to settle down and find his happily ever after. It helps that Sage was not only extremely pushy and determined but also extremely patient and sensitive with Adam and his needs. A really lovely story!

Adam and Sage

Definitely did not expect the story line. Different but very good and very well written! I absolutely adore Adam and Sage! And damn I can’t say how much I love the name Sage!

This book wasn’t as good as the previous books in the series. I didn’t feel as much of a connection between the two main characters, and some of their reactions to things were a little confusing.

When not staying up all night writing, J.R. Gray can be found at the gym where it's half assumed he is a permanent resident to fulfill his self-inflicted masochism. A dominant and a pilot, Gray finds it hard to be in the passenger seat of any car. He frequently interrupts real life, including normal sleep patterns and conversations, to jot down notes or plot bunnies. Commas are the bane of his exi ...more
