Bobby Flay - My Signature Dish!

I am a fan of the show - Bobby Flay has perfected the art of celebrity "chefdom" (if that's a word) and I'm all in. However, the television shows, books, cookware and whatever else he flogs are not worth a chili-infused cracker if he can't back it up in the kitchen. Fortunately for Bobby - he can.

The book has some good recipes and is well photographed. He tries to take a representative sample of recipes from both his side of the stove as well as the contestant. The show is a real competition - both sides are doing their best to win. The contestant has the advantage of competing with their signature dish while Bobby has been through the drill many times - and while his spin on a recipe may be different, he knows how to use and blend flavors and ingredients (and use the clock).

This is a nice coffee table book - I remember some of the episodes. One of the nicest parts of the shows is that it gives unknown chef's a platform to showcase what they can do and promote their restaurant in their hometown. Many TV chefs have come and gone - Bobby Flay is still here, a testament to the fact that he can cook, he can work under pressure and he continues to reinvent himself and his TV shows.

I love the show Beat Bobby Flay. My parents and I often flip to it in the evenings when we have 30 minutes in our schedule before bed and after watching something longer.

We love rooting against Bobby Flay and being pleasantly surprised when he actually loses, which is rare. His sense of spice and taste must be so good!

This cookbook captures all the things I love about the show. I recognized a lot of the recipes from all of the episodes I have seen. I was so glad to see the mushroom goat cheese chili relleno recipe that Bobby flay made in one episode made the cut. I wanted to be one of those judges for the opportunity to eat it so bad!

I’m excited to try out a couple of the recipes in the book including the delicious looking creamy cheesy grits.

What I really liked was not only where there recipes by Bobby Flay, but also included were recipes which 'beat' him with little notes from the winner.

Plus I tried the Sautéed Apple Dutch Baby Pancake and it was good.

This was more of an entertaining browsing cookbook for me vs. a cookbook where I’d make multiple recipes as written. Recipes are impressive to watch on the show but mostly too complicated for me to want to try making at home.

Although there are some good recipes in this book, most don't include enough basic staples. Most prep times are lengthy too. The sauces, stocks, and gravies are flavorful and easier. For me, this book is more of a holiday book and not for everyday meals.

Let’s be honest, if you’ve seen the show, you know you want to eat it all. It all looks and sounds delicious. Also there are pictures with every recipe. The only downside lists and pages of ingredients and instructions…there are a lot. Personally I would love to eat all of these recipes but I don’t think I would have the desire to go through all of that for food.

As a long-time fan of the Beat Bobby Flay TV show, it was fun to re-live the episodes by reading the recipes. It's always amazing to me that these chefs can make these dishes in under 45 minutes. Obviously they have time management skills that this home chef just doesn't! Impressive!
