She’s perfectly content with her close-knit friends, her avian research at the local university, and, well, her own hand is enough to satisfy her on lonely nights.
But then her BFF starts a family, Kiran’s dean denies her tenure, and she breaks her wrist trying to tame a traumatized cockatoo. In just a few days, everything Kiran cares about is obliterated. The icing on the cake? Her influencer sister is planning the wedding of the century and to make it Instagram-perfect, she made Kiran promise not to be a loner with no date.
So when wildlife rescuer Danielle calls Kiran to help rehome a displaced owl, their road trip turns into more than either of them bargained for. In shared motel rooms across the Midwest, it’s easy to go from venting to hooking up, and Danielle even agrees to stand in as Kiran’s wedding date.
But will their friends with benefits arrangement end when Kiran’s cast comes off, or can she make room for love at last?
I write stories that explore the thrills – and challenges – of falling in love as a woman-loving woman, including the bestselling Lakeside Hospital medical romance series and Rainbow Award honorable mention The Rules of Love.
My books are for you if you’re a fan of contemporary romance, if you love strong women who aren’t afraid to be vulnerable, and if you like a little heat with your sapphic love stories.

Kiran and Danielle have known each other for a decade and during a road trip become much closer. This is a great friends and more story. I love their group of friends and family as well as their pets. Echo the cockatoo is so funny. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of books. Kiran & Danielle are really hot together.
I received an ARC copy of this book for my unbiased and honest review.

This was a nice, sweet read with likeable main characters. Kiran and Dani fit well together, and it was fun to watch their relationship grow from co-workers/somewhat friends to friends with benefits to girlfriends. I also loved Dani having to work through her family issues, specifically her divorce. It was nice to see that and see her being supported by her friends as she tried to experience new things (in dating) for the first time in almost two decades. My main issue with this book is that I wish it had been longer. I would have liked more time to see their relationship grow and develop. You do see some of the big moments with them, but I wish there were less time-skips (even if it skipped only a few days) so we can see the two of them together more. I especially would have loved to see the two of them at the wedding together since that was mentioned multiple times, even in the summary, and I just wish it had been included in the story. Some of the side characters felt a bit flat, like Kiran’s sister, but I think that might be due to the minimal amount of time spent with them. Altogether, the book isn’t a bad read and if you want to kill a couple hours, I recommend it. It’s a sweet story with animals and minimal drama.
Cara Malone brings a sweet and hot romance full of old friends. I truly enjoyed the story with Danielle and Kiran. I loved seeing the other couples grow and develop along with the MCs. Was pleasantly surprised with another zero anger book. I truly enjoy her books.
Fur-babies (and this with feathers) make the best friends
I love the Fur-ever series and the way this author takes you on the journey of those who care for our beloved sentient beings. The characters and plot are well developed and each character is a treat. I also loved the proposal scene. A very good read. I enthusiastically and unequivocally recommend this series and any other works by this author. Thank you Peace
I have read many of Cara Malone’s books but have just recently began writing reviews. This is the first book I have reviewed by Malone. One thing I really like about Malone is that she is consistent in her writing. When I start a book by her, I know that it will not be super long, and it will likely be a sweet romance. She also has really improved in her writing from her earlier works.
Love Birds is book five of five the Fur-Ever Veterinary Romance Series. This could be read as a stand-alone book but is likely more entertaining if you have read the whole series. The characters in this book are likeable and super sweet individually and together. I love that there really was not much angst and it was not a slow burn. It was two adults having a grown-up relationship. They fall into bed quickly and it is pretty much fire from there.
Great job by Malone for the whole series. I would recommend the whole series for those who like the sweet romances.
A nifty romance to take you away from life's troubles. Kiran (Vet) and Danielle/Dani (from the W.O.W. Rehab Center) reconnect as friends over Echo the cockatoo in need of rehabilitation. Mix a gambling addict husband (soon to be ex), 20 year failed marriage, teenage daughter, an internet influencer and promise of tenure at the university denied with growing attraction and a 2 day road trip to save an owl and you get Lovebirds. Kiran's family including sister Naira (the influencer), teenager Emily, lousy ex-husband Tony and the squad from W.O.W. all add meat to the storyline with events moving quickly to a HEA.
Lovebirds, is book number 5 of the Fur-Ever Veterinary Romance series. Although can be read as a stand-alone, I suggest to read the whole series in order, adds to the magic. I just love this series very much, every book is so good, and I love that in every new instalment, we get to catch up a bit with the characters we've already met.
Kiran is happy with her research at the university and as an aviary specialist of the Western Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (WOW). She doesn’t have in her plans to fall in love. But what happens when destiny takes her and Danielle the director of WOW, who is dealing with the aftermath of a divorce, on a road trip for a rescue. Neither of them expected that shared night to get as steamy as it turned. Will they remain as friends with benefits, or will they accept the love opportunity that is right in front of them?
I’ve mentioned this a few times already, but I really love this series because all the characters are so endearing, and is great to see them back and get glimpses of their lives after we’ve read the books related to them.
We got a funny cockatoo named Echo; all the things Echo said were so much fun. There’s also an owl to rescue. There are nice feathery friends in this one.
I enjoyed the story of Kiran and Danielle very much. This was a sweet but also very hot romance. I liked their chemistry and how their friendship was developing from co-workers/friends, to friends with benefits, to lovers. Another thing I liked was the secondary characters, along with the ones we already know, they played a very important part being their support system.
This is a very well-written and well-developed story, with great characters, human and feathery ones.
I’d like to recommend this book and the whole series. All of them are wonderful sweet romances with cute animals, perfect to relax and forget about life.
I received an ARC copy of the book from the author and voluntarily leaving my review.
I got an ARC in exchange for an honest review: 4.00
I’m a little disappointed to say that I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the previous ones. It seemed a little forced to me like Malone was done but she needed to pair up the last remaining single in the group? While I read the other ones without stopping, I struggled to maintain focus on this one, often straying and killing a few minutes on some game before returning.
That doesn’t mean, however, that Lovebirds is a bad book. The writing, as usual, is good and the story moves at a good pace. The characters are relatable and the animals adorable. What I really liked about the romance is that it wasn’t instant chemistry. I don’t know if this is how Malone intended it, but I didn’t really feel it at the beginning. As they get to know each other better you can see the connection building but at the start? I couldn’t see them together; I was like, “really 🤨?”. It showed a different type of romance and relationship than the usual instant chem we usually see.
Also, a little spoiler: the book description is a little misleading. It makes it sound as if the road trip is long, of at least a couple of days, where they spend some time away from their normal lives and their relationship starts during that time, but in reality, it’s just one night in a motel, and then they’re back home. If you’re reading this for a story of a weeks-long road trip where they rediscover themselves, sorry.
(And she didn’t break her wrist taming the bird, whoever wrote the summary obviously wasn’t paying attention to what they were reading 🙄)
Anyway, a good book, would read it if I were you, and as always, any questions will be answered.
Kiran, the aviary specialist and university professor, is the last of her circle of friends to remain single. Danielle, the director of the Western Ohio Wildlife Rehabilitation Center (WOW) is in the midst of a divorce. A lovely relationship starts as they bond over a cockatoo and an owl. Echo, the cockatoo, is such a wonderful character who added such levity throughout the story. I enjoyed the leading ladies and the slow burn connection they felt. Even Danielle's daughter was supportive of her mom's new relationship. It was such a nice change that no one was mean or vindictive. We have enough of that with today's politics so this book was just an enjoyable read. Cara does such a great job bringing in all our favorite couples from the other books in this Furr-ever series that it truly felt like this reader was a part of their gatherings. Thank you, Cara, for all the heart-warming moments this fun and loving series gave to your readers!
Sometimes in a Covid world, you need something nice and sweet. This story has it all. The characters are wonderful and full of emotion. This is a story about a confused divorced. woman with a teen age girl who wants to find herself. She had 15 years of marriage and has had enough of her gambling husband. Dani meets Kiran, who is a veterinarian professor . The story goes from there with a depressed bird thrown in. The plot is good and goes along with the authors other books in the veterinarian series. The characters carry over but the book can stand alone. I recommend this book for all like a sweet love story with emotion and drama.
This book finishes up the Fur-ever Veterinary Romance series. Cara Malone delivers another low angst, friends to more romance. Danielle the director of the Western Ohio Wildlife rescue ends her marriage after twenty years. Kiran is a vet and teaches at the local university. She volunteers her time occasionally to the WOW rescue and is called in to help rehome an owl. Kiran hasn't looked for a relationship in years. But a friendship with benefits might be just the thing for both. As always I like the author includes the relationships from the previous romances as he core group are friends. It lets you catch up on the changes in their lives as well.
Sometimes it takes someone else to prove it wrong!
Danielle is tired of her husband of twenty years lying about his gambling and having no money to buy groceries because he gambled it away. Kiran is a vet who teaches at the local college and helps at the wildlife center Danielle runs. The two ladies are asked to come save a owl caught in a tree at the cities Christmas tree lighting. Forced to stay overnight they discover something that neither thought was ever going to happen. Another fine story by Cara! Enjoy!
Kiran is an avian Veternarian and professor working toward tenure. She’s never pursued a real romantic relationship and really has no desire for the long term. Daniella is the manager of the Western Ohio Wildlife Rescue for wildlife in the state. When Daniella’s marriage implodes they begin a journey of friendship and more. Great story and romance. Recommend series.
Just as all of Cara Malone's books are. I loved this story, as I did all of the Furever stories. This was a very well crafted love story that grabbed me from the start and didn't let me put it down until the very last word. Now, there must be another story to take care of the Dr. Lol.
"must love animals" it was such a sweet way to end the series. I love how we were able to have amazing friendships, relationships and their interactions with so many different animals.
Danielle, director of the WOW and Kieran, birds specialist vet and I loved how they went from colleagues to friends to lovers.
Danielle and Kairan decide to be friends with benefits and the friendship becomes more. It was wonderful reading how friends become lovers, and how other friends are there to help them. Emily, Danielle's daughter help open her heart to her true feelings. Loved how the other characters from this series showed up and participated in this HEA.
Nice read for the series. I loved that there was more of an interaction between all previous main characters. Can't lie, I'm avoiding the last book because I don't want to deal with a love triangle of any kind.
I liked Kiran and Danielle, and glad we avoided the cheating trope.
Again not that real but what romance novel is? It was well written and very romantic showing all the insecurities and realisation about learning what and who yobreally want. There were a few twists and torns and learning about what you reallt want and what's most important in your life!
I loved this story. The main characters are so sweet. They started out together to just have friends with benefits. As usual they fell in love. There were great love scenes and a happy ending.
Nothing can go wrong or get in the way when two women have feelings for each other and are meant to be together. If you add a pet,... well, what can I say. I loved the story, from the first to the last word. It is romantic, funny,... just adorable.
This was a cute read there was not a lot of drama, but there was so much love involved between all the couples. Loved catching up with everyone from this series and can't we for the next Cara Malone book to come out.
As much as I hate seeing a series of books reach it's conclusion, this was a great final book in an interesting and engaging tale of women-loving-women veterinary stories. All lesfic fans should find something to love in Cara Malone's books!
I absolutely love this series, Danielle and Kiran are perfect for each other, they are funny and sweet and soooooo sexy when they are around each other.
This was a quick heartwarming romance and a good conclusion to the series. Loved seeing all the characters in this book and Kiran and Danielle were wondeful together
Cara Malone’s Fur-ever romance series is an absolute heartwarming delight and Lovebirds is the perfect send off to the series. Kiran and Danielle’s love story is my favorite yet (which is really saying something).
Both Kiran and Danielle were originally introduced in Foxy Lady and while I knew Kiran was going to be a future MC Danielle was a surprise, the best surprise. Her story is phenomenal. A Bisexual woman who was never able to explore her sexuality due to getting pregnant and married at an early age. Her story is fantastically told and I loved all of the support she had from the characters of this series.
Malone has once again done a superb job of interweaving the other characters of the series without pulling the focus from Kiran and Danielle. Each new story continues the epilogue of the stories that came before and I love getting to see how the other wonderful romances and characters are doing.
I am obsessed with the progression of Danielle and Kiran’s love story. Friendly colleagues for years everything changes when Danielle’s entire world shifts and the professional distance she has maintained shatters. A true friendship blooms and turns physical one fateful night. Both women are content with a friends with benefits situation but the feelings continue to build on the easy and sweet connection they share.
Echo is wonderful. Both birds in this book play a significant role in bringing these two lovebirds together.
I loved the communication between Kiran and Danielle and how their relationship is founded on friendship. The sweet connection and the irresistible sexual chemistry these two share is stunning and I loved every second of their love story.
Lovebirds is exactly the ending for this series I was hoping for, sweet, sexy, romantic, and filled with adorable animals. A perfect and heartwarming ending for these fantastic characters.
