A bobbing corpse. A tangle of lies. Will a strong-minded dive boat operator find herself in deadly waters? Grand Cayman Island. AJ Bailey wishes she could forget her friend’s tragic death. Yet the crystal-blue Caribbean offers none of its usual comfort. Especially when an expedition brings her across the floating, naked body of a drowned teenager.
Haunted by the memories of her lost friend, AJ involves the local Police Service before moving on with her business. But overhearing a suspicious conversation alerts her to high-powered suspects in the wealthy playground, and she vows to seek justice for the dead girl.
Can AJ unmask a murderer without becoming the next victim?
Ghost Mountain is the fourth book in the fast-paced AJ Bailey Adventure Series.
A USA Today bestselling author, Nicholas Harvey's life has been anything but ordinary. Race car driver, motorsports professional, adventure traveller, divemaster, and since 2020, a full-time novelist. Raised in England, Nick has dual UK and US citizenship and now lives nomadically wherever he and his amazing wife, Cheryl, choose to land for a few months. He is the author of the Nora Sommer Suspense, Kat Cromwell Mystery, and AJ Bailey Adventure series, as well as multiple collaborations.
Loved Nicholas Harvey's latest and fourth book in the AJ Bailey Adventure Series! While covering a little grittier subject matter, Harvey approached the topic and details with class and added a new dimension of suspense. It's always exciting to meet a few new characters being added to his already fantastic line up of regulars and I look forward to how they'll be skillfully woven into some of AJ's next adventures.
A floater, PRICEY “gentleman’s” resort, & a little one arrives!
Really loved this 4th story in the AJ Bailey series! Although, I have kind of mixed feelings saying I “loved” it when such a topic was the theme this time around. Which, in real life currently, puts too many girls & women through so much torment. The same girls & women who unfortunately, more often than not come from horrible, or struggling, backgrounds to begin with. I’m talking about human smuggling & human trafficking. (Which - all of the above - is not just reserved for females either. I only mention women as females are the only victims trafficked here; males are certainly trafficked as well.) Now that I’ve made this book seem all doom & gloom - & made it so that you probably aren’t interested in reading it at all! Lol This story is NOT at all like reading a news article or a textbook on the subject(s). Nicholas Harvey is able to write a compelling, engaging, & still fun & humorous story, while maintaining human trafficking as his main plot line. (Lol I am reminding myself of AJ here. In the manner in which she often finds herself of two minds. Sees the bigger picture, & positively appreciates it for all it is … yet still gets emotionally hung up on some detail. Like me feeling weird saying I “love” the story. When *the subject* is not “lovable” in any way at all. Perhaps it’s better to share instead: this is a FABULOUS book!! For many reasons … ;) I digress…. So! As per Harvey’s masterful skills, Book 4 is full of strong, bold, clearly defined & filled out characters. The back-stories & physical descriptions are all there. It’s just perfection. The way the girls are each portrayed is significant, & worth mentioning specifically. The author certainly didn’t have to go as in-depth with their character development. But he did. And it truly makes this story sing! As each of the young women, as individuals, are so unique inside & out - it really adds a special sparkle. Of course there is gin clear evidence of Harvey’s signature use of anticipation. Of keeping us on our toes right up until the very last pages. With Ghost Mountain however, the mystery isn’t so much OUR mystery to figure out this time. But more being able to participate in AJ & the Crew’s mystery solving skills, as events unfold around them & clues are .. dropped overboard. ;) lol And … of course, the diving. Here we find ourselves doing quite a bit on this trip. I won’t spoil your fun or even offer any sneak peeks. I’ll just suggest you bring your camera or GoPro along for Book 4, as there’s plenty of awesome little gifts for us to “see” from the author! So, overall though the there is a more serious theme running through this tale, it’s still “just a story” in this capacity. Fiction. There is also plenty of levity & lightness within. Definitely an AJ Bailey & Friends book not to be missed. I think it might be my favorite thus far! Ok! On to Book 5… & whatever fun & surprises await there!
GENRE: Adventure | Suspense • SETTING: Grand Cayman • PLOT: A woman has turned up dead. Another has turned up missing. Another is running a super exclusive resort in Cayman, with high membership fees for those with expensive, but perverted, tastes... • OPINION: When I read the first book by Nick Harvey , Twelve Mile Bank, I was blown away! I had found an author who loves Cayman as much as I do! I loved the characters he had created - and when I learned the main character, AJ Bailey, was now in a series, I knew I had to keep reading! . This book did not disappoint!! I loved the suspense, starting from the first chapter. I loved the scuba diving scenes, especially the spotting of the manta ray and hammerhead, and I thought the suspenseful plot hit right on the mark. Way to go, NH!!! I would say you have a “new fan” - but I would be lying - I was ALREADY a fan! If you are someone looking for a high stakes, energetic, suspenseful, beach read, look no further than the AJ Bailey series! • SERIES: 0️⃣ Cavern of the Lost Souls 1️⃣ Twelve Mile Bank 2️⃣ Gardens of the Queen 3️⃣ Wreck of the Raptor 4️⃣ Ghost Mountain • STAR RATING: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 • * I received a pre-lease copy of this book in exchange for an open and honest review*
After reading Finding Sommer, which was the backstory/prequel to the S0mmer series , i decided to enter the previous series to find the story in which she appeared, Ghost Mountain, an Aj Bailey adventure. Well now i find myself wanting to read all the Aj Bailey adventures of which there are many, and jumping back to the Sommer series of which there are also many. What a great problem to have for a reader who loves good adventuure especially with female protagonists, and great locales. The Sommer series is about a young girl who runs away from her home in Norway and finds herself in trouble in Grand Cayman. She is befriended by AJ Bailey , a woman who runs a diving operation also in Grand Cayman. How they meet, become friends, and what is in store for Nora as a police trainee are up next. I really like the fast pace, the interaction between the characters, and the description of living in what we might think of as paradise. I have a trip coming up and now i have many good reads to take with me.
What a thrilling adventure! The stage is set for a mystery that turns into a struggle for answers and hopes for a bunch of wayward girls who are being taken advantage of. A ring of despicable people are subjecting the girls to promises of a comfortable lifestyle in exchange for submitting their bodies to lecherous millionaires. Once they agree to the arrangement they become captives with no possible escape. All the time this is going on the heroine, A. J. Bailey is being draw in by her role as a famous divemaster for the Caribbean community where she runs her business.
The operation of the dive business and the illegal sex operation come together by coincidence and by keen observations by AJ and her employee (effective partner) Thomas, who see and hear things that raise suspicions. Much of the story can be upsetting if you become deeply involved in reading, like I did frequently. The book is so excellently written and the characters seem so real that it is easy to do.
This is my first Nicholas Harvey novel. I enjoyed reading it. This is the fourth in his A. J. Baily series, and he's written over twenty books, so Nicholas Harvey's been busy, and so has AJ. She's developed a successful dive boat operation in the Cayman Islands. In this story, she's moving a group of divers from one dive site to another when they discover the body of a young woman in the water. Who is she? How did she get here? Who killed her? AJ's dive business keeps her on the periphery of the investigation of the young woman's death. She's there at the gripping conclusion.
An interesting introduction to a cross over character! As always, the diving makes a vivid picture of the amazing Caribbean reefs/walls and amazing fish life! I think PADI should almost pay Nick for the advertising as if you have never tried scuba his books certainly make you want to try!!
Excellent adventure but too much info on the trafficking … need to skip some details
The underwater scenes are intriguing as always, excellent characters, and plenty of twists. Too much detail on the human trafficking and bizarre characters connected with it. A good read with the above exceptions and needs more diving info and adventures. Worth the time
Good Story with a lot of action. I like AJ, the main character. She is a no-nonsence business woman with a heart. The plot of the story required sexual descriptions, which I could have done without. Made the antagonists all the more despicable, however. Good twists in the plot.
AJ and Thomas run a scuba dive boat taking people of various scuba skills out to dive. This outing they find the body of a young female. One thing leads to another and before you know it they're helping the police shutting down the villains. Definitely a reminder that if it looks too good it probably is. Great job. Thank you.
These are fun reads, nothing outlandish or contrived. Wonderful diving with a little mystery and adventure. And a great heroine too! Love the characters and the stories are entirely believable and well thought out. Nicholas, loved Sully, always fun when the author is in their own story!
This book is a perfect example of what a great author Mr. Harvey is. He is imaginative and creative and each book so far has been a fantastic, thrilling ride!! I am having so much fun reading this series!!
Full,of suspense but to me storyline seemed to creep along sometimes with a backstory, without much action. I’m probably spoiled on books full of action from page one, but give this a try.
A really nice book, as a former diver I am a sucker for stories with divers. This has great main characters and a plot that is different but believable. The dive parts are spot on and just add to the story. Well done.
The author knows the boating and diving world, and so I enjoyed reading a good story about a world I love and can no longer take part in due to my age, but was able to imagine myself in the thick of it! Very good read.
I enjoyed reading this book because it was so well-written. The reader had a better view of what was going on than the characters, which makes the reader more engaged. I liked how many side stories were going on and how everything cane together.
Finally introduced Nora, and got more involved in current affairs instead of dual time lines. I hope this series continues in this direction, because I've read all the newest series with Nora and Roy, and I miss them!
Another very fun easy Carribbean read. Fun characters, great setting, lots of adventure . So glad there are more of these and more new Caribbean authors to follow’
Some transitions could have been improved. The change of subject was abrupt and unexpected. Those few instances caused me to go back and see what I missed.
Good story Tough to see these young girls come from nothing and think this life is a better way than what they had at home. Sad state of affairs in today’s world.
