From the tarot curious to the tarot savvy, Heart's Compass Tarot provides a guide to using the tarot as a compass to navigate life, focus creativity, inspire writing, and forge a deeper connection to the self. Heart-centered, joy-based journaling questions (How do I love? How does my life force fill me? How do I communicate? How do I enjoy my body?) connect the tarot to the student's past, present and future. Tarot journaling, a tarot timeline, and discovering living expressions of the tarot in the present world work together to reveal personal symbols for use in meditation, dreamwork, and creation of the student's own unique cards. Cards created by other students, heart-based interpretations of traditional and original layouts, and a selection of tarot-inspired poems and essays open the riches of the tarot to deepen self-exploration and inspire creative work. Learn to create beginning layouts, team up with a tarot companion, dialogue with your own unconscious, or even write a tarot haiku. Heart's Compass offers an innovative template for a lifetime of tarot improvisation, deepening intuition and awakening the student to joy, wise dreams, and inner gifts waiting to be shared.
The theme of this precious new introduction to the tarot is right there in the title of the book – Heart’s Compass. Not only has this book been penned by a writer with great heart, it also leads the reader through a labyrinthine discovery of the tarot as healing portals into the sacred and spiritual aspects of their being. We learn that the tarot is nothing to be frightened of; rather, the cards manifest symbolic imagery illustrating the archetypal energies of our deepest selves.
This book will appeal to all levels of tarot explorers, from beginners to those who have sought its guidance for years. The author guides the reader gently towards using the cards in meditative journaling. In her hands the cards metamorphose into tools for generating poetry, haiku and creative writing. In a series of essays Tania shares a dialogue between herself and a sister tarot lover, demonstrating how meditating and journaling on the tarot in tandem with another can reveal new insights and intuitive readings.
Yet another innovation is her suggestion to create what she calls tarot improvisations. Here the reader is encouraged to draw and colour personalised cards synthesising the imagery and personal meaning discovered in three card spreads. Here, as with all her suggestions throughout the book, the author adopts a “can-do” approach so that even those sceptical of their own creative abilities are encouraged to try. With Tania’s guidance the reader will move gently past creative blockages, through an alchemical mix of meditation, journaling, creative writing, poetry, haiku and art. The Heart’s Compass is so much more than an introduction to the tarot. It is a journey into the deepest realms of your psyche, a magic carpet flying above the narrative of your own personal story line, a treasure hunt for the jewels awaiting the archeological dig of your journaling. Tania illustrates vividly the power of the tarot to illuminate your own deepest, intuitive, womb-knowing.
This beautiful illustrated workbook is for anyone who is tarot-curious, but also for those who are tarot-savvy. Pryputniewicz’s own lovely drawings and paintings—and some of her students’ artwork—illustrate this compendium of what the tarot is and how it can be used to help one become more familiar with the tarot, but, more important, the self. As she writes in the introduction, “This workbook is for all who wish to deepen the relationship to the self through journaling to tarot cards, journaling to discover personal symbols for tarot card creation or meditation, and improvisations in tarot-related art, poetry, and tarot layouts.” Unlike other tarot manuals, Heart’s Compass Tarot uses imagery and the users own artwork and writing to deepen and broaden the messages the tarot offers for those willing to listen. If you’re looking for an inspiring and heart-centered approach to understanding the tarot, Tania Pryputniewicz’s Heart’s Compass Tarot is essential.
This book is full of gorgeous pictures drawn by Tania and others who have attended her Tarot classes. The book is a workbook to discover Tarot journaling and create personal cards. All of the steps are clearly put forward, but I'm envious of those who have been able to have these experiences with Tania herself. Even if I hadn't wanted to read the workbook, I would have bought it for an art book. The drawings are stunning. One day, I will have a first-hand experience!
A physically beautiful book that inspires self-exploration and creativity on every page. The author writes with a poetic, gentle voice. I had little exposure to Tarot before reading the book. I came away with poetry, artistic playfulness, and soul-stirring inspiration. I bought the book to open myself up to more pathways of creative inspiration. This book exceeded my expectations. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in advancing their knowledge of Tarot and increasing insight and creative inspiration.
