"If it's almost Halloween and you
have a new wary.

She might be a bruja! A witch!"

This is the story of a child who discovers her new babysitter is a witch, and the child takes steps to vanquish her. And the child eventually succeed. And feels remorseful. But remember, this is just a story...

This book has the vibe of If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, with back-and-forth cause-and-effect, and it's spiced with a generous helping of Spanish words and Halloween feeling.

One of the cutest and most sweet picture books I've ever read?! If Your Babysitter Is A Bruja tells the story of a girl who thinks her babysitter is actually a witch & tries to outsmart her! The lyrical writing, alongside the animated & vibrantly-colored illustrations make this an incredibly fun read + truly the perfect book if you're still in a Spooky Season reading mood! 🎃🖤

For starters, its so beautiful & heartwarming seeing books like this for readers from Latin-A

Written in English laced with Spanish words, this Halloween book is for little kids who can follow flights of fancy that alternate with reality. The reader will watch the girl being snatched by the witch and dropped from the sky only to turn the page and find out she's pretending from the top of her play fort. They'll see her being dunked in a bubbling cauldron filled with cocodrilos, then find out she's only taking a bath. The fantastical elements might prove confusing for more grounded young r ...more

I really enjoyed this fun and creative story. I particularly liked the bilingual element, especially the lullaby (which is one I knew), the ending and the message. The illustrations are really nice. I loved the color palette and the style. I think kids would enjoy this, and I’m glad it has the Halloween hook because I think there are not enough books on this holiday.

A humorous take on second point-of-view narration where a child perceives her new babysitter to be a witch. Siqueira effectively turns everyday scenarios such as a trip to the park and taking a bath into wild imaginative adventures filled with hungry crocodiles. Freitas colorful joyful palette infuses warmth to each "scary" scene and helps to cement the growing bond between child and babysitter. Snippets of children's classic songs and poems in Spanish bring an extra multicultural layer to this ...more

Great little Halloween story for the code switching kid and their friends. Half in Spanish half in English, part magic, part fantasy, cute story about a child who believe her babysitter is a witch.

A delightful read in Siquiera's trademark humor. What could be more scary than a babysitter who is a witch, or more fun? Full of Spanish words and ditties, If Your Babysitter is a Bruja gives a sure-fire way to disarm your nemesis and make her your friend. Freitas' whimsical illustrations will make this a favorite for Halloween and for the rest of the year. ...more

An imaginative read for Halloween and Dia de Muertos from a kid's point of view that manages to also include heart in the bond and relationship between kid and babysitter. Hello, friends! Our book today is If Your Babysitter is a Bruja, written by Ana Siqueira and illustrated by Irena Freitas, a delightful multilingual Halloween tale.

Beware, kiddos: Halloween is approaching and magic is in the air. That’s one of the reasons that the unnamed child narrator of our story suspects that her new babysitter is not all that she appears to be. In fact, with a black sombre

IF YOUR BABYSITTER IS A BRUJA is an adorable book that combines Halloween with the experience of having a babysitter. A young girl warns the reader that if it is nearing Halloween, and you have a new babysitter to beware that she might be a bruja! As the night continues, the young girl escapes from her black cats to play in the yard before getting dumped in a cauldron (bath). Eventually, she decides that her babysitter is her best

Babysitter woes carry a witchy twist, which guarantees a tiny dose of scares and more than a few unexpected surprises.

While the well-done bilingual side of this read already makes it worth a peek, it goes beyond that with its spell for fun. This child is anything but excited about the new babysitter, and the imagination goes wild before the babysitter walks through the door. Or does it?

This book allows imagination to filter into reality until the two are impossible to decipher or keep apart. The

If it's almost Halloween and you have a new babysitter ... be wary. She might be a bruja! A witch!

It can be such a nerve-wracking experience to have a new babysitter. I love how this story helps you know that new babysitters can bring some great fun. I love the main character's big imagination, especially the little nod to The Wizard of Oz (with regards to how to defeat a witch).

And while the main character creates hardship for the babysitter, it was nic

Ana Siqueira’s latest, after Bella’s Recipe for Success that I loved, brings a witch to the home of a little girl who is not excited to have bruja for a babysitter and sets out to get the best of the unwelcome care-giver. But by the end of the night, great fun is combined with terrific food and bedtime comes too soon. Simple, rollicky text across the page includes plenty of Spanish in a context rich enough that those who only speak English will know exactly what is going on. Digitally rendered a ...more

If Your Babysitter is a Bruja is a fun read that leaves you wanting to stir up your own potion and meet a bruja for yourself. The playful, bilingual text and bright, emotive illustrations encourage readers to imagine, create, and persevere. A great read for the Halloween season and all-year round! Thank you to the author and Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Kids will love this read-aloud picture book anytime of year, but especially during the spooky season. Little ones are often trepidatious when a babysitter's coming over and can think the worst--maybe the sitter's even a bruja! A witch! But in this sweet story, kids come to find that a great bruja babysitter can be tons of fun and, it turns out, not scary at all. As the story winds down, kids will too....finally ready for the spell of a good night's sleep to take over! ...more

A ton of fun for any kid that has felt wary of a babysitter, only to become best friends in the end. Kids will delight in the antics of the main character who believes her babysitter is a witch and then cheer when the two finally begin to connect. I imagine many young readers being tucked in with dreams of their own adventures in navigating the world of babysitters. A great read for any time of year.

This witchy story is a perfect Halloween companion, and would also appeal to parents whose child is nervous about being left with a babysitter. The plucky main character is creative and persistent, and the story is full of fun imaginative adventures with a happy ending that will leave you “cackling like a crow.” I also love how it sprinkles in Spanish words in an easy to understand way. The illustrations are whimsical and spooky, but not too scary.

With Spanish words sprinkled throughout the text, this is a fun adventure to read in the lead-up to Halloween...or anytime! A little girl discovers her babysitter might be a witch...but would that really be so bad? The book ends with a bedtime scene, so it could be a great before-bed read. However, the tale is lively enough for a daytime storytime as well.

A fun bilingual Halloween tale, this book is full of playfulness. With cute art, If Your Babysitter is a Bruja explores things you can do if you discover your babysitter is a witch. The main character is defensive at first, but warms up over time, making this a great story about appreciating people for who they are.

I was immediately intrigued by the title of this book. Bruja means witch in Spanish, and there are probably several children who believe their babysitters are brujas. In this case, she really is one! A charming and stimulating book.
