This was the fourth and final book I read during a volunteer virtual Story (Any)Time event with New York Cares. Volunteers were given a list of books to choose from - or were encouraged to read books from their own child-appropriate collection - for children in an elementary school in Queens. The theme for this event was, appropriately enough, "Women in History".

Before I even borrowed this book, I did a quick Google search to ensure I could pronounce her name correctly - or, as correctly as my American accent would allow. Armed with that extra bit of detail, I started recording for the last time today.

I will say that though I loved the other three books, for all the stories they shared and the women they celebrated, this was the only book that actually taught me something. And of course, following the quick reading of Tu Youyou's story, I did a bit more Googling to find even more information on this extraordinary woman and everything she gave to the world of science and medicine, and the world as a whole.

It's a quick story that seemed to smoosh a whole lot of information into just a few pages, but it got the point across. At least...you know. It got the point across to me. I can only hope that the story - all of Tu Youyou's passions and dedication and research - comes across to the children who will someday (be forced to) listen to my reading.
