"This is a must-have insight into modern documentary; the principles that govern it and the conventions it often breaks. It deserves a place on the shelves of film commissioners, film students and documentary consumers as prominent as the place these documentary filmmakers have carved for themselves on our screens." - www.shootingpeople.org

If you are documentary buff then you should definitely read this one, as it packs a long list of suggested documentaries.
Interestingly, though the name of the book suggests that it will give the readers an insight into the digital aspect of the film-making, but in reality it has very little of "digital"in it. And this is what makes this book a sort of a timeless read, considering the fact that film-making books concerning with the technology of this art tend get outdated rather quickly due to the constantly evolving nature of this technology. But not this one!
Read it in order to find out the background behind some of your interesting documentaries. I for one, thoroughly enjoyed this book and am glad i picked it up.

Some useful style and technique analysis of the author's favorite documentaries but there is very little on 'digital' in the book.

She offers great commentary on why doing things differently than convention (and in what cases it works).

I read this book because I thought it was about digital documentary and it isn't at all. There is very little discussion of digital technology.

If you're starting out in documentary this is a good read. But again, few lessons for the digital bit.
