I really enjoyed the protagonist, Mollie, and Scooter—a married couple who live on a sailboat docked at a marina in Florida while they work on making it seaworthy. They have a cool cat, Mrs. Moto who has quite the personality! The dialogue between this husband and wife is really fun and entertaining. Imagine your husband signing you up for a rutabaga diet! LOL!

Mrs. McGhie Solves Another Mystery

The third book in this cozy mystery series has the same quirky characters, sugar porn, and humor as the first two. I thought the murder mystery resolved a tad too quickly, but otherwise it’s quite fun and amusing!

Mollie McGhie’s husband, the beloved Scooter, bought her a dilapidated sailboat for their anniversary. Though they now live on the boat (somehow Mollie survives without a decent kitchen, A/C, or storage), she has yet to sail. Might we see the Marjorie J

Rutabagas, dogs, cake and a wealthy family give Mollie another unexpected adventure...even more so than an alien invasion ever could.

Mollie isn't happy with her husband, Scooter. Not only is she now stuck living on a small boat, which is still in repair on the dry dock, but he's decided they're both going on a diet, which involves disgusting mixes at best. Luckily, there's a festival in the making, and she's determined to win not only the cake contest but the costume one for pets as well (there

It certainly wasn't Mollie's idea to buy an old crate of a sailboat, let alone live on it. But here she is, smack dab in the middle of living her husband Scooter's dream. To be fair, it hasn't been as much of a nightmare as she thought it'd be, and in fact, she's actually made some pretty darned good friends with the other folks who live in the marina and around the community. She's also getting to be quite the whiz kid at making repairs to their perpetually dry-docked boat, and she now knows mo ...more

First Mollie's husband buys them a sailboat for their anniversary and then he throws out all her sweet food so they can go on a rutabaga diet. No chocolate? No one can survive that! When Mollie discovers the body of someone who had been poisoned by the pier, she's determined to find the killer and convince her husband the diet is ridiculous. The problem is discovering who put the poison in the cake that killed the poor person and the fact everyone seems to be getting on board with the rutabaga d ...more

Another cozy mystery by Ellen Jacobson. You can’t help but love her main character Mollie. She is quirky and very curious. It is a murder mystery but this series always puts a smile on my face. Ellen is very accurate on how she portrays living on a boat (and boat yard). The good (lots of social activities) to the more frustrating (trying to get your things safely up a ladder in a boat yard).

This is the third book in this series, but it's the first one I've read. I will definitely go back to read the first two in the series. This was such a fun and cute story, despite the murder.

I haven't read a lot of cozy mysteries, but if they are all like this, I could definitely read more.

Even though this is the third in this series, I did not feel lost in the plot or disassociated from the characters. Plus, there are pets in this story and I adore animals. If it weren't for

This was exactly what I needed! Thank you, Ellen Jacobson. I'll need to get the next one, stat.

A fun, lighthearted cozy mystery set on a marina, Poisoned by the Pier is full of animal hijinks (especially those of the adorable cat, Mrs. Moto), delicious desserts (sadly, no recipes) and boatyard gossip.

It's an engaging read full of colourful characters and the protagonist's bumbling attempts to solve yet another murder mystery. A ridiculous fad diet, eerily reminiscent of several real-life trends,

This is the 3rd book I've read written by Ellen Jacobson; she has done a great job at writing a good book; I can’t wait to read more of her books.

The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.

I loved the chemistry between the characters.

I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.

Did I mention that I love Star Wars too!!! I think Mollie and I have lots in common....but not the finding bodies thing ...hahaha. Loved this book...a pretty much no brainer on the culprit but still was very fun. I love the relationship between Mollie and the detective. Very fun series...makes me laugh!!! Happy Reading :)

Mollie and her husband have communication issues. He thinks it’s okay to inform her that they are moving onto the dilapidated sailboat he bought for her anniversary present, throw out all her favorite food and snacks, and sign them up for an extreme diet consisting primarily of rutabagas (that’s “swede” for my UK readers). Of course, Mollie thinks it’s okay to be married to a grown man named Scooter, so I’m calling that one a draw.

Mollie’s neighbors at the Coconut Cove marina have problems too,

Once again Mollie McGhie finds herself in the middle of a muddle. Her husband’s new rutabaga diet doesn’t include her beloved chocolate, her attempts at baking the perfect cake for Coconut Grove’s boating festival’s cake contest are hampered by not having a kitchen, and her cat keeps ending up where she’s not supposed to be. Oh yes, and someone is poisoned.

This is another fun cozy whodunit by enchanting author Ellen Jacobson, full of great local colour and quirky characters both new and old, an

Loving this series...

Poisoned by the Pier is the third book in the "A Mollie McGhie Cozy Sailing Mystery" series. Mollie and Mr. Moto have to solve a murder mystery while Mollie's husband tries to put her on a wretched rutabaga diet. My only surprise is that the body is not that of her husband for pulling that scheme and throwing out her chocolate. It would be considered justifiable homicide as far as I'm concerned.

The characters in this delightful cozy mystery are well developed, quirky, and p

What a fun book! Just like the two previous books starring Mollie McGhie, you can expect humor and a dead body. Mollie has a bad habit of finding the body. But first, Mollie's husband has come up with another brilliant (according to him), lame-brained (according to Mollie) idea. This time it's a diet featuring rutabagas. My folks made me eat rutabagas as a kid. No way would I ever eat them willingly. Finding clues connected to the rutabaga diet lead Mollie on a merry chase after the killer. Thou ...more

Scooter is on a diet and wants to take Mollie along for the rutabaga ride! No chocolate or hot dogs or cupcakes! What kind of universe is this! And lots of people are trying this new fad. Plus she found another dead body. This makes 5 dead bodies, if you’re keeping count. This puts Mollie on the case, much to Chief Dalton’s chagrin. There are so many different suspects and there also seems to be some shady things going on in the background too. Mrs. Moto helped out with the investigation, as usu ...more

I received a free ARC of this book but opinions are my own.

Ellen Jacobson's cosy crime series are fun and draw wonderfully on a liveaboard lifestyle to guide the main characters through the story. They are a lovely, light-hearted series full of interesting characters and humour. Poisoned by the pier sees intrigue and mystery at the cake show. Cats, chocolate and a crime, what more could you want. They are part of a series but can also be read alone. A great read to curl up with and enjoy.

Mollie cannot function without chocolate. Scooter is on an extreme diet and thrown out all their junk food. Her diet may even interfere with her finding out the truth behind the latest murder. Ellen Jacobson has cooked up a hilarious mystery with some quirky characters. I have enjoyed the entire series.
