Another fun and fabulous Book Unboxing Video

This was SUCH a fun way to do an advent calendar.

I should probably mention that I adore Once Upon a Book Club. Reading a book and being pulled in by gifts that correlate perfectly to the story is just way too much fun!! So of course, I have to get the advent box each year. This particular box was sooooo wonderful. The most important part is the book of stories that come with it. Each story was really engaging and I was pulled in so quickly! Which is perfect since the average page length is about 20 pages. I cried with a couple and laughed quit ...more

I believe the stories were meant to be for both adults and YA, so they were intentionally a bit "young," but some came across as a bit cheesy. I liked a few quite well, and I appreciated the diversity and the creativity...I just wish it had been proofed a bit better. I did like that the stories were written by club members, however I wish the stories had been Christmas/winter themed, since this was part of an advent subscription box. ...more

A few stories were great, most were fine, a few were not so good (same with the gifts). Always a fun & unique experience though!

Love the book/stories and gifts. 🎁
Story 4 was my favorite. Then story ten, then eight

I can't bring myself to review it because of the nature of the book. It's a collection 0f short stories written to go with the gifts in my bookish advent box. I wished more of them were holiday/wintery themed but several of them were and a couple of them I truly enjoyed. Honestly, it was a little too long for me, some days it felt like a chore to get through a whole story, just because of how hectic life is during the last twelve days before Christmas! Also, I hate to gripe, but it truly did nee ...more

Fun collection of stories! I did enjoy that although the book came in an advent calendar, the stories weren't all christmas centric.
Some were stronger than others hence 4 stars. That said I will be picking up more works by some of the authors.

I love that OABC bound the stories ilke this! I hope they do this again in the future. :)

Love the gifts, couldn't get into the stories. I liked the short 2-page stories from last year better; just a nice treat. Some of these stories were a bit more daunting. ...more

I have been a subscribing member to the Once Upon a Bookclub box for... 3+ years now?... and I absolutely adore what the OUABC team has created.

Each month, they curate a new release and pair 3-5 gifts with the book, that are wrapped beautifully to match the book's theme, and are numbered - only to be opened when you read the indicated passage within the story - and the gift brings the story to life.

I have enjoyed nearly all of their selections, and the attention to detail, time, and care put i

While a bookish Advent calendar is always a great idea for those book lovers in your life, I can’t say that I enjoyed this year’s Once Upon a Book Club (OUABC) offering as much as last year’s. Quite a few of the stories were entertaining, and a couple were really good. But for me personally, I would have preferred the stories for an Advent calendar be a little shorter (it’s so hard to wait to open the accompanying gift!). Also, Christmas stories, or at least winter-themed stories would have been ...more

A nice mix of genres. I enjoyed some a lot, others were okay. I think my favorites were 4, 10 and 12.

Overall the experience was fun. I really liked the advent box this year, the gifts were really bookish and useful. 🤩

3.5 ⭐

Some stories were better than others, as with all short story compilations. I preferred the shorter stories as were done in previous years. It is difficult to find time to read a full length novel for an advent calendar during the busiest week of the year. I also wish at least some of the stories were Christmas themed.

This year's edition provided a wonderful mixture of short stories of various genres. As others have mentioned, I also hoped that winter would feature in more of the stories. I enjoyed the 10th Story the most and look forward to more by that author. I have already started following her blog. ...more

This was a really fun and well put together advent calendar. I can’t say any of the stories were amazing (they’re all written to match a specific gift) and they weren’t Christmas stories like I expected.

The items in the advent calendar were mostly excellent, with only one day I felt was bad and 2 days that had items that specifically wouldn’t work for me. More than half of the gifts will see frequent use.

Very excellent and something I look forward to next year

Enjoyed the gifts this year, but the stories were so long and many were just depressing. I hope they will go back to the previous format next year.

This volume was included in the Once Upon a Book Club advent calendar (which they call Book-Club-Mas) for 2020. A normal month's box includes one published book with several items related to the book. For the advent calendar, they use a collection of short stories-this book, and a package to open each day. In the typical boxes, post-it notes saying "Open your gift" are placed on top of a passage in the book (the passage typically features an item, and the gift is that item).
The stories are not o

This was my first Once Upon a Book Club advent box and I found it overall to be a very fun experience. Some stories were good, some not so good, and I was surprised at the poor editing here and there. There were a couple times when the connection of the story to the gift was pretty sketchy and it felt like the sentences were just thrown in there to get the present given. The gifts were very nice! It was fun to have a gift-for-self each day. I am surprised to read that some people are disappointe ...more

This Advent box was so much fun to go through for 12 days, with a new short story and a new present every day! I'm not sure I would give 4 stars to just the short story book; some were definitely better than others, but I got enjoyment from all of them, especially with a present to open for each. My favorite stories were definitely #s 2 (Ways Without End), 4 (An Adventure Through Literature), 5 (Lumi Blanche), and 12 (The Promise). I'll look out for future work by the newbie authors T.M. This is only the 2nd box ever I have ever received from the Once Upon a Book Club and jt was the advent box. I chose the YA book selection and it was amazing. Not all the short stories were my cup of tea but as they were only 20 ish pages I read them and they were enjoyable. I loved the 12 days and 12 gifts. 4 of the gifts are full books and all of the others are book related goodies. I love them all!

A cute collection of short stories, compiled just for Once Upon A Book Club's 12 Days of Book-Club-Mas. It contains 12 short stories, each with corresponding gifts, to be opened in Advent Gift Box style, concluding on Christmas. There were some grammatical errors/editing mistakes, but overall I really enjoyed the stories. Some were emotional, some were creative, others uplifting. It was a wonderful combination of quick stories perfect for the holiday. Look forward to next year's box already! ...more

This book was a series of short stories part of an advent gift box. which made it fun. However, most the stories were hallmark like short stories and I basically concluded, I am not a short story person. the stories I liked, were too short, and the stories I did not like, were too simple. I think short stories are not my jam. However it was something a little different with the advent box and gifts and that I did enjoy.

The last four or five of the stories were pretty good. The first stories are in some desperate need of editing. They weren't written with consistent tenses which can drive a reader crazy. I wish the stories were actually holiday related, but none of them were. Although, some did feature snow, snow storms, and cold. I thought the last story, The Promise, by Hazel Prior was the best, and I really enjoyed it. ...more

This is hard to review because of the variety of the short stories. Some were really good. Most didn't seem to be very wintery themed. Sadly my box wasn't shipped in time for Christmas or to be used as an advent calendar (despite pre-ordering in October) so I read it all in one day and opened all gifts in one day. The gifts, not counting the books, were mostly dollar store items and overall disappointing. I didn't think it was worth the $100 total with shipping and won't be doing that again! ...more

Book was part of Once Upon Bookclub Advent Box. There are 12 stories and 12 gifts. You read one story a day(starting 12 days before Christmas) and during the story you are instructed to open the gift. Most short stories were good with a few that weren’t my cup of tea. This is my second year purchasing the Once Upon A Book Club Advent Box.
