A great read.” “A well-written and gripping story that kept me on the edge till the end. I liked the solid mystery, the plot that flows and the interesting and well-thought-out characters.” “There are few books that have me hooked right from the beginning, and The Secret of the Oxpen’s Angel is absolutely brilliant! But this book is exceptional !! I thought I knew where this was going..but I was wrong, just so good ! But this book was impossible to leave alone until I was done. Wow. If you’re a fan of Gillian Flynn and SJ Watson, you’re going to love this book!
This book had me turning the pages to see what happened next. Imagine being on a relaxing vacation with your friends after your final exams and one friend goes missing. The story is about four friends having fun then and how the remaining three friends deal with the loss of their friend now. It wasn't confusing going back and forth between past and present, since the time frame was on the 1st page of each chapter. It was interesting to see the story of what happened unfolding with each chapter.
I prefer stand alone books in a series instead of those with cliff hanger endings. I will read the next book to see what happens.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.
Took a little while to get in to the book , keeps jumping between past and present, but I did aventualy get hooked and will be reading the next book as now I really want to know what comes next
I enjoyed this book. It was quick paced and I couldn’t put it down. Wished it was a longer story and really look forward to reading the remaining books in this series.
Lei R Tasker has written an engrossing mystery that hooks the reader from the very start. I love The Three Lives of Aila Douglas and, although I have only read Book One 'Missing', to date, I will be buying Book Two, 'Origin', at my earliest opportunity. The story moves between two time scales, the visit to Aila's home, a romantic medieval castle (much updated in Victorian times) by Aila and her University friends, after they had finished their finals and a later date when the friends return to the castle to try and find out what happened to Aila, all those years ago.
I will not be spoiling things for anyone by giving away any spoilers. Suffice to say that the story grips you, is extremely well written and, if you like suspense then you really need to read these books. Very, very highly recommended.
Kept turning the page to what happens next. Four friends on a relaxing vacation from their final exams. One goes missing. The author tells the story of the four friends having fun then & now in present day how the remaining three have been dealing with the loss of their friend. Intriguing book!
Missing will have you turning the pages wanting to know what transpired in the lead up to Aila's disappearance.
The initial police investigation turned up nothing and it makes you wonder if they really tried to find her. Twenty years on and there is a new detective on the case and he seems determined to solve it. Aila's friends that were with her that day are now adults with careers and/or families of their own. The reopening of the case brings back painful memories that they have suppressed over the years.
I received a free copy of Missing: The Three Lives of Aila Douglas Book 1 from the author and have chosen to leave a review.
I had received this book from the author and Bookfunnel.com in return for an honest and fair review (this author had also asked me to be part of her ARC team, so this Avenue is possible as well).
This book was a good read, tho a little confusing with the change in dates (the title character is there in 2020, the re-investigation takes place in 2019 and the incident takes place in 2000).
This short story definitely whets the appetite of the reader in wanting to read the next book to find out a little more of the story.
On a five star scale, this short story is worthy of a four star review.
This story has action (kind of). After their last final, Aila and her three college housemates travel to Aila's home in Scotland where, after a few days of fun, she disappears. Twenty years later, the three friends are called back to Scotland where they find a clue and find Aila. The story ends here but there are more to come! If you don't like cliffhangers, this is not the book for you. Highly recommended.
This book was a complete surprise! It was not what I expected nor what I remotely thought it was going to be about. I got the book free and read it on a whim. I found that it was very well written, cohesive, full of action of a sort as well as very well written. Looking forward t the other books in this series!
First book by this author that I've read, and I really enjoyed it. The characters were believable and I thought the plot was good. The only downside was I would have liked the book to be longer as I read it in one sitting. Will certainly look for more by this author
This book is a psychological thriller. It is book 1. It is about four friends, Aila, Meredith, Hannah and Lottie, who are visiting Dunmistle Castle. Aila says she has to pop back into the castle for something and that’s the last they saw of her. Now 20 years later, the three are sent a letter saying the case is being re-opened with new evidence. If they weren’t worried, there would be no story but “Meredith struggled to breathe for a moment, her head spinning as the blood rushed.” How can you not keep reading?? Once they go back, there were secrets they had to keep to protect themselves. It had me hooked. This is book 1 of 3 and I have to keep reading. I received an ARC copy from the author and this is my honest review.
The Three Lives of Aila Douglas Book 1 : Missing, my first read from author Lei R. Tasker is a 100-page, page-turning, delightful, crime thriller that draws you in deeper and deeper with every word read! Serves as an introduction to The Three Lives of Aila Douglas trilogy. I look forward to the next book in the series, The Three Lives of Aila Douglas Book 2: Origin as soon as I get it. "I received a Kindle copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
Have read The Oxpen's Angel series and was sure that the new series would be equally good. Aila Douglas invites her three friends to her castle home. Her friends are enamored with her stately home. Whilst they are enjoying their stay, Aila disappears. Twenty years later the case is ongoing. Will they find her? The story had me totally engrossed and I finished it in one sitting. I also love the scenic pictures in the book.
I got this book for free with the promise of an honest review. All be it a short novel that is the first in a three part series, it packs a lot of tension and action. The author knows how to grab you by the collar and not let go. Usually I don’t like a novel that is broken down into parts when it could easily be just one book, but the author has found a way to get her reader lost in the story and by the last page already looking for the second book. This is suspense at its best!
A short but excellent mystery told in two different years, 2000 covering Alia's disappearance and 2019 when her friends return to the castle where everything happened. Keeps you guessing until the shocking cliffhanger ending. Writing is excellent with great characters and storyline. Part 2 next. I I received a complementary copy from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review
This is a nail biter filled with tension and suspense. You will find yourself quickly immersed in Aila and her friends story. I am looking forward to Book two.....highly recommend. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
Aila invites three friends to stay at her home. Interesting story, and also characters. Story is spread over the three books, so must buy the set in order to find out what happens to Aila.
