Commander of ravens, wielder of shadows, Queen of Corvids, born of Huginn Muninn, creation of Odin and the Morrígan...

Sounds impressive, right?

Yeah, that’s not me.

I’m Juniper Crawford, the fox-shifting half-sibling of the aforementioned badass. Along with my computer geek brother, I’ve taken over the family’s private investigation business. I’ve grown up around weird cases

I received a copy of this book from the author but this review is all my own!

Firstly, I haven't read any of the Raven Crawford series, so I was unsure how easy it would be to read this novella right in the middle of the series and to be honest it was a fun, great read. There was enough background information of the previous storylines and books to be able to fully understand what was going on, but it definitely made me want to go back and read them to understand it even more.

Juni is a private

Return to the fun world of the Crawford family but this time Juniper is the lead character. The story was entertaining and made me laugh throughout it as other characters from the previous books pop in and out. I still love this family as they area hoot. I loved watching Juniper solve the mystery that walked in the front door of the family PI business plus all the other stuff that just had to pop up at the same time. Fun quick entertaining read that sucked me in and kept me read to the end in on ...more

A good read; the perfect length for an evening with your feet up

This book is Urban Fantasy and is the fifth in the Crawford Investigation Series, beginning the story of Juniper, who is Raven Crawford half sister.

The book is written so that it can be read as a standalone without the need to read the previous books, however, I found that there were references which I may have understood better if I had read the rest of the series. That said, I was able to gain a basic understanding of the relevant

I really enjoyed this story nd can’t wait to see what choice juni makes and how those decisions will play out in the next story.

The kids are growing up and continuing on in the family investigative business. Hvinh big sis s queen has its benefits but also it risks. Juni is trying to tan on her own, as much as she can itch the knowledge a nd training she has....but power is a seductive thing...

For now she’s doubting and questioning the intentions of those close to her and as result seem to se her

At first i was not sure what to expect as i often feel disappointed when we move from one main character to another. In this case i was happy to see how the author made the transition. We focus on Raven sister: Juni but not the stupid adolescent ..6years later she is a young professional lady. The jump in time make it easier for me to appreciate Juni even if she has not matured enough seeing all the mistakes she is doing and how she underestimate herself.

That being said we find some characters w

Where to begin? (in a good way of course)

To cover is such an amazing representation of the book. But we all know don't judge a book by its cover.
I was hooked from the first page, it's just so alluring.
I personally loved the fact that at the beginning of every chapter there was a sentence that is used in the book or that just describes the situation. It really is a nice touch that makes the book really stand out in my opinion.
I was so in the story that I didn't realize that I already reached the

Ok, I love Juni, always loved her, she was great as Ravens little crazy sister and now that she's reached adulthood and has slipped herself into the family business, I love her even more. This was a short story introducing Juni as her adult self with all her "stuff", good and bad. It was great to see some of my favorite people returning and that ending is most definitely heading into the next Juni book, which should be a freaking doozy. I love this series, this world and it's peop

I have not yet read the other Crawford series and was unsure how to begin in the middle of a series with a new lead. I was pleasantly surprised by Juni's story. I like her character because she is honest and down-to-earth and very realistic, other than she shifts into a fox. She handles the challenges that she faces on her own, without expecting saving, which I appreciate. She also doesn't simper after the male characters. I enjoy her family interactions and I like the quick mystery of her PI ca ...more

Another brilliant book by J.C. McKenzie! What I like most about this story is the vivid world-building, unique characters, and humor. Juni is blessed and cursed to be the little sister in a powerful family, and in this story, she steps out of the shadow and comes into her own, as a strong, smart, independent woman who's not afraid to fight for what she believes in. McKenzie writes family dynamics extremely well. I can't wait to see what Juni does next.
I highly recommend this book to readers who

I received an ARC from the author but this review is my own.
I'm new to J.C. McKenzie books, I was concerned about starting this book seeing as it's book 3.75 but didn't need to be, seeing as it's a different character then the previous books. There's enough history to know who everyone is and not feel that you've missed anything. This books is well placed and really enjoyable. Makes me want to go back to the start to get to know more about the other characters.

I really enjoyed seeing things from Juni’s perspective. She’s such an interesting character and so very different from her twin half-siblings. I like when worlds continue on from the POV of a different character and this one is no different. Looking forward to the next one!

I love Juni!

This is a great start to a new spin off from the Raven Crawford series. I loved Juni in the original series, and she's just got better as she's grown up. Can't wait to see where her story is going.

I've loved the Raven Crawford series so far and this story about her sister Juni was just as good!

She's a funny and intelligent fox that can take care of herself just fine making this an enjoyable short story in the Raven world.

Book Review: From the Shadows: A Raven Crawford Sibling Story (Crawford Investigations Book 5)
Author: J.C. McKenzie
My Rating: 5 Stars

I have enjoyed every story thus far in this world. We have met little sister Juniper many times throughout but not quite in this way.
Juniper is out on an investigation and it leads her into a ton of trouble. Will it be too much for this Foxy lady or will she crash and burn.
Well written and I just love Juniper!!

This one was fun and I got into it a lot more than I did Bear's book. I also really liked how this one takes place over 5 years after the end of Raven's books. I wasn't sure what to expect with an older Juni, but I think she grew up into a good character. She has long since accepted that she will have to live in her sister's shadow, but she also doesn't let that determine her own worth.

Juni has pretty much taken over the family business now and things are relatively calm. So when a client walks
