Random historical connection that probably won't be mentioned in this book: Mary Anning met Kaiser Friedrich August II of Saxony. He liked Ichthyosaurs.
This is the third picture book about Mary Anning that I’ve read. This one’s facts seem to deviate a bit from the other accounts that I’ve read. But the gist of the story is there: the 12 year old girl who discovers an important fossil and who contributes to early paleontology.
It took me a few pages to become accustomed to the style of art of the pictures, but then I really appreciated their playfulness.
I’m glad that books for children about Mary Anning are being written.
She could easily be an inspiration to budding scientists or to anyone with any dream or passion.
Love this story about Mary Anning's discovery of the ichthyosaurus when she was just 12 years old. It's written for kids, but no less fascinating for adults.
