A great new gardening book for the Sooner State! This handy omnibus guide, co-written by Oklahoma TV gardening personality Steve Owens, is packed with over 300 of the best plant varieties you'll want for your garden: annuals, perennials, trees, shrubs, vines, climbers, roses, bulbs and herbs. Small enough to take along as a reference on your next trip to the local garden center or nursery, this book does not stint on hundreds of beautiful photographs. It contains all the gardening information you need in order to decide which varieties to select and how to care for them.
I appreciate the ornamental options this book presents, but I was surprised that the “best” garden plants for Oklahoma didn’t include any fruits and veggies. I’ve been growing plants in Oklahoma for over a decade and know there are numerous plants that are amazing in Oklahoma that add both the ornamental and edible elements that were not included. For a future edition, including a section that dives into fruit and veg options would take this book to the next level, and encourage readers to consider including edible plants in their landscape.
Looks pretty good! I just wanted to check on a couple of things, but even a quick look-see reminds me that I want to plant chives. And I suppose I could do mint as a ground-cover, but I'm not sure if the neighbor would be pleased (aggressively naturalizing). Maybe Vinca, maybe Moneywort aka creeping Jenny (L. nummularia).
