I was familiar with the Word of Promise because of the New Testament CDs so I was very excited when I got the chance to review The Gift of Psalms. This devotional comes with a very nice book with a few selected Psalms and the brief devotional for each day. But what makes this book so special are the CDs with each Psalm read completely. I know that there is a lot of publicity around the actors that participated in making it and I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't cheesy.
I have about a five minute drive to work each day so I thought it would be a great time to listen to the devotionals. I spend a couple minutes before I left to read the cooresponding section in the book and then I headed off to work. As I started the CD, I was first drawn in by the voice. I love hearing the Psalms read by a man (which most of them are with this product). I could hear the emotion behind Davids words and I loved the Psalms that they chose to include. After the Psalm was read, a different voice shared the devotional which was word for word from the book. I was a little disappointed in this because I was hoping to hear something more than what I had just read. But one great thing about hearing the devotional again was that I picked up on different things the second time through. I walked away feeling like I had had a completely different devotional experience than before.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I was shocked to see that it was so well made. This would make a great gift since the wrap is what contains most of the advertising. I felt as though I had received a gift when I opened got this in a mail and I will definitely think of this again when I'm shopping for someone.
I was touched. I wished that all the Psalms were used but there are a lot of them so I can understand. This product was great. I encourage you to check it out.

Thomas Nelson, published this delightful devotional. The Gift of Psalms, is a book printed on special paper and with a deluxe smooth leather-ish cover. Included are three audio CDs with a reading from The Word of Promise Audio Bible coupled with a reading of the devotional thought from the book for that particular psalm.
The Word of Promise readings are from the New King James Version, which has a majestic quality about it when read aloud. The readings are done by various actors such as Sean Astin, Richard Dreyfuss, Joan Allen, and a variety of other names. The quality of the recordings are excellent, with some background majestic sounding classical music.
In the book, one page includes an excerpt from the psalm for that day, and the opposite page contains Lori Jones’ devotional. The devotionals focus on the theme found in the psalm for that day, but don’t hesitate to reference other Scriptures. At the end of each devotional is a short prayer in response to the reading.
The CDs include the entire Psalm, not just an excerpt, and fit nicely into the back cover of the book, in special slots. The book covers 50 Psalms, while the CDs cover 30. Even so, the book would make a great companion to a personal reading through the Psalms.
The only thing the book really lacks is a nice bookmark similar to what one would find in a Bible. It seems like it cries out for something like that, with each page being so glossy and thick, and with the fine finish.
This book is an excellent gift book, and I enjoyed reading it. My thanks go out to Thomas Nelson, for providing me with a copy of this book. I’m planning on making my copy a gift, soon.

The Gift of the Psalms Devotional wisdom from 50 of the best loved psalms, is the best devotional of the Psalms I have ever read. The Psalms are from the New King James Version, one of my favorite translations. Very poetic & easily memorized. The Devotionals help you to meditate on the meaning of the Psalms & to think of how you can apply them to your daily life. The prayers at the bottom of each devotional are beautiful. The book it's self is well made, with the CD case made into the back of the book. (on the inside of the book, which keeps your CD's nice & safe) This book reminds me of a journal because of it's size, weight, and feel. Inside the book: 101 pages (Not including pages for notes in the back). I love the background design of the pages, looks like old parchment. The Paper it's self is thick & sturdy, wont tare easily . The format of the book is very nice with the Psalm on one page & the devotional on the other.(Side by side) Under the devotional is a short prayer. This book comes with 3 CD's which is titled: Dramatic Audio Theater Presentation of Selected Psalms. The CD's cover 30 of the Psalms from the book. Very nice for listening to in the car or upload them to your MP3 player.

Devotional Wisdom from 50 of the Best Loved Psalms

This is such an exceptional audio book I don't know where to start. The 3 CD's come packaged in a beautiful book with the cd's at the back. In the front, thick, creamy pages hold the text of the psalm and also a devotional to go along with each Psalm. This way you can read or listen. Not only are the Psalm excerpts recorded, but also the devotionals. This really allows the listener a lot of flexibility in using them together or separately.
This is a beautiful set which I found wonderful for use during quiet times. But I'd also think it would be great to use to open a bible study. I wasn't sure what to expect with this book/audio, but I was extremely pleased with it.
