Noah’s story is sweet and sad. He suddenly not only loses his dad but has found himself the owner of his dad's kink-club...a business that he has no idea how to even begin to run. Luckly, he remembers his dad's best friend, Sawyer...he makes the call and Sawyer comes to his rescue. The attraction of course was there, but Sawyer waited several months before he finally moved in with Noah, and Noah told Sawyer how he was feeling about him, actually had always felt about him. Noah's father recognized Noah's feelings for Sawyer long ago, so had asked "adult Sawyer" to promise he would leave "teen Noah" alone. When Sawyer arrives to help he seemed to forget that Noah is no longer 14 years old...that they are both adults and can do whatever they want. It didn't take them long to figure out what they both wanted. All of the Command & Care series has been exceptionally good, and this one has become a perfect part to the series, especially after you get past the sad first 3 chapters. Somehow this series seems to suck you right in and before you are aware of it ...the story is over, and you're left wanting the next one right away. The narrator...John Solo helped to make the felling of the story extra special with his wonderful rendition of the character's voices.
I really enjoyed reading this heartwarming MM romance with a riveting “age-play/Daddy Kink” undertone. I found the plot to be well-written & definitely intriguing with the emotional journey the two characters went through to get their happy ending. It is about: a rather sweet young man (Noah) unexpectedly loses his father (Oliver) & is at a wits end while try to cope with his inheritance, a kinky “Club Playpen” his father left him then his father’s best friend & crush (Sawyer) arrives to help Noah & the attractions begin to flare. There is: friendship, age-play, some twists, drama, intrigue, desperation, memories, regrets, attractions, longings, protectiveness, determination, temptation, some discipline, spanking, mild steam, contentment & a delightful ending.
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
This is book 3 in the Command & Care series, but they are all stand alone books, and do not need to be read before this one. I have been lucky enough to read them and they are all great reads.
Noah's dad passed away and left his club, Club Playpen to Noah and Noah is drowning in it. He doesn't know about running a club, much less dealing with suppliers, and staff issues and he resorts to calling his dad's best friend, Sawyer, for help. The same best friend that Noah has been crushing on since he was 14. Having been away climbing mountains, Sawyer wasn't aware that Noah's dad had died, and he runs to help. He just needs to keep Noah at arms length and keep his promise to his best friend: to stay away from Noah. Easier said than done.
Noah is a middle, he regresses to an 8 year old. I think this might be the first book I've read of a Daddy/middle book, and I really rather enjoyed it!
It's very low on the kink side, for a Morticia Knight book, and I loved that it was. It's HEAVY on the emotions though, that come with being a middle and a Daddy and I loved that too. You can actually feel the weight of Noah's stress on his shoulders, and how that stress lifts, even after just speaking to Sawyer. Sawyer, too, is an emotional man, and his need to look after Noah, in ALL ways, is palpable.
There is a lot to unpack here, at the club, and it takes time for the full extent of the betrayal that Noah faces to become clear. I really did NOT see that coming, I really didn't!
I wrote 4 stars at the top of the page, but I can't find a single thing to point why, so
I was so excited for this one but so let down with this. It was all kinds of insta and lacked the exploration of what being a middle was truly like. The plot was eh didn’t really grab me the way previous books did. I wanted so much more with this. I’ve read previous books from this author and this one just didn’t match up to the others.
His Middle is the third book in the Command and Care series by Morticia Knight. I really liked the story of Noah and Sawyer. Their story was sweet, sexy and fun.
this series is so adorably kinky and sweet... this one was just soo wonderful and amazing and i love the writing so much.. it made me smile and happy.. sexy and kept me on the edge of my seat needing to know what was next. i loved it
Ok we I was enjoying this all the way till the end. Noah is grieving the loss of his father and Sawyer is the perfect day for him. Hurt /Comfort gold. While I don't enjoy age play , when Noah regressed to his 8 year old middle head space it was stinking adorable . However at the very end it crashes and burns when the age play turns sexual and 8 year Noah talks about how much he wants his Daddy's "pee pee" 😖
I am getting to the stage that I rarely cringe on reading Daddy from a little or middle's mouth, and I have now accepted the interactions better.
Sawyer and Noah's relationship was not ordinary. Noah was Sawyer's best friend's son and off limit. But with Oliver gone and Noah needing help, there was little he could do BUT fall for the boy who needed him inside and out.
The dynamics just felt right, nothing forced. It was like they were meant to be and just gave up the fight. The fact that Noah needed help and was finally willing to ask for it, brought Sawyer back into his life. Getting the club on even keeling and sorting out their lives took a bit of negotiating, but in the end, Sawyer allowed Noah to gravitate to what was needed in the moment.
And I loved middles Noah and Arlen! I hope Arlen finds his happy ever too.
Not into this kink. The characters are usually pretty sweet, but age play is where I draw the line. Nope. The book was also missing a solid plot. Noah was super underdeveloped. We didn’t get to see Noah run the club well. Our daddy didn’t have a conflict about his transient nature.
When a middle inherits a kink club, he’s terrified. Can his dad’s best friend rescue the business while also protecting him from danger?

Noah has had a terrible experience of loss, and has found himself in a position he doesn’t want to be in: running a kink club. He calls on Sawyer, his long-time crush and dad’s best friend in the hopes that Sawyer will manage the club (and also fall head over heels in love with Noah in the process).
Sawyer has been overseas on an expedition and returned to the US to the terrible news that his best friend of many years had died whilst he was away. Noah has caught his eye since he grew up, but for some reason, Sawyers friend made him promise never to seduce the boy. Can he keep the promise?
Of course, Sawyer drops everything to help Noah and we see how well suited the two men are for each other.
The romance between them is slow in growing because of the promise, but it feels inevitable that they would get together. When Noah’s appeal grows too enticing, Sawyer decides promise be damned, he’s having the delightful boy!
They never really reveal why Sawyer promised his best friend he wouldn’t pursue Noah, but they both seem to get over the vow pretty easily.
The writing was smart and sometimes funny, the kink club was a sweet side to the story and the fact that Noah was a middle not a little was refreshing and interesting. Noah is a sweet character and Sawyer is the daddy of his dreams.
Recommended. I was given a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
Wow my heart bleed for Noah Noah lost his father to a heart attack, it just came out of nowhere leaving Noah in a tailspin. He had inherited his fathers club. It was a club for people with a certain Kink. It was called the playpen because it was somewhere safe for people who wanted to find daddies. People who want it to be taken care of, who just needed to forget what was going on around them and go back to their childhood. But the problem being was Noah had never run a club before and he had no idea what he was doing. And it was showing the staff at the club showed no respect to Noah. Noah had been trying to get hold of his dad’s best friend Sawyer, Who he had a major crush on but nothing had ever come of it. Sawyer had been off climbing Mount Everest but he knew he was coming home soon so he left another messages for him to get in contact. Sawyer finally got home and he was exhausted when he received a message from his best friend Oliver's son Noah to get in touch he knew straightaway something was wrong. He knew Oliver would get in contact with him. Sawyer quickly rang Noah back to find out what was going on. He was shocked to hear of his best friends death but he could also hear the pain and suffering in Noah's voice and he knew he would be leaving to get to him straightaway. See Sawyer had feelings for Noah but he had promised his best friend he would do nothing about it. But that didn’t stop Sawyer from hoping that Noah would be the boy that he was looking for. Sawyer was shocked when he saw Noah and all he wanted to do was protect him but Noah wasn’t making it easy to keep his promise to his best friend because it was so obvious that he wanted him too. This is a fantastic read. There is some twists and turns in it So be ready for them but it’s mainly about Noah and Sawyer finding what they were looking for in each other. Gosh we all need a Sawyer in our life because that man is just fantastic he has patience and understanding but he also has that firm hand that Noah needs. They just make the perfect couple there is something very magical about when they’re together and I could read about them forever. I can see me re-reading this book
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This story probably deserved a three star, but the plot, characters, and writing were good enough to bump it up.
What I liked: -sweet plot line. Daddy swoops in and saves his middle by building him up and teaching him how to deal with the situation -hot, well thought out sex scenes. Excellent use of spanking. -adorable MCs with good communication skills
Side note: I was surprised when Noah's middle turned out to be
What I didn't like: - telling not showing. I was wondering why the book was so short with a plot and romance to take care of. It helps if you keep skipping ahead a few days and then having the MCs reminisce over what has happened in the time gap. I don't need every little detail, but I would like to be there for major moments between the couple and those that impact the plot line. - -
With more showing and less telling and some expanding of a random sub plot, this book would easily be a five star. It was an enjoyable quick read and I'm being a tad hard on it because I did feel it could have been so good!
Noah and Sawyer made such an adorable couple, and I really enjoyed seeing them find something beautiful in a difficult situation. This story could have leaned heavily into angsty grief, but instead I felt empowered as I watched Noah and Sawyer turn things around for the club and work through their emotions. I do wish that Sawyer had been more open about the grief and pain he was feeling instead of putting on a mask for Noah, but I assume he coped with it in some other way off-page. Apart from the sad undertones at the beginning of this story, I thought the majority of this book was a joy to read as Sawyer and Noah explored their Daddy/middle dynamic. Though their playtimes weren't very steamy, I actually loved getting a closer look at how Noah let go and embraced his childlike glee. While I have no complaints about the touching, emotional romance in this story, I'm still confused about the Jonathan conflict that popped back up from out of nowhere. Maybe I was just oblivious, but I didn't think that whole series of events was set up well at all, and as a result it wasn't very satisfying to see how it got resolved. At the end of the day, it was clear to me that Sawyer and Noah had a very special bond, and it made my heart happy to see them living their best lives in the epilogue.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
When Noah’s dad unexpectantly dies Noah is thrust into a life that he never imagined. He knows that he is in over his head and calls Sawyer his father’s best friend for help. The two have danced around their attraction for years but Sawyer remembers his best friend and the request to stay away from Noah. Yet as the two spend more time together their attraction gets harder and harder to deny.
Sawyer and Noah’s story is an engaging read. It is a first but not last middle for this reader. Noah is a sweet young man who needs a good man to take care of him and to help him succeed. Sawyer may just be that man if he can let his worries go. As Sawyer helps Noah find his footing in not only the club but life as well their emotions begin to take a toll and the men must make some hard decisions. I enjoyed seeing Noah find his way with the help of Sawyer. The two are good together and their connection is evident in all that they do. I loved seeing the relationship take shape between Noah and Sawyer. Each man gives the other what he needs, and they work well together. The author does a good job of showing the emotions and connections of all the characters in this book. We not only get to see a romance develop but readers also get a look into a strong friendship between Noah and Arlen. This book moves at a good pace and keeps me interested all the way to the end.
Two men both at an emotional loss over the sudden and unexpected death of Noah's father who was also Sawyer's close friend. Noah now must deal with the unwanted inheritance of his father's kink business "Club Playpen". All Noah can think is what was Oliver thinking by doing this to him, a man with no business sense and totally clueless. Into this disaster Noah calls his father's long-life friend Sawyer for any help he can muster. After all, when handed lemons look for someone with a business sense to make lemonade. It doesn't help that Noah has been crushing on Sawyer since he was 14YOA and grasps the difficulty working with Sawyer will present. Little does Noah know that Sawyer has been attracted to Noah but because of a solemn promise made to Oliver he must keep his feelings and hands to himself. Thus sets the stage for a quick study in business acumen while both men don't cross the bridge to intimacy. This was an enjoyable story for me in this third book of the Command & Care series. There was also a learning curve the reader is privy to as far as how to set up, change, and successfully run a business, not an easy job. In this case both Noah and with Sawyer's business savvy success will out. I was given an ARC from this author for my honest and voluntary review.
Middle Noah's Dad suddenly dies and he is left with kink club Club Playpen but it has far too many responsibilities for him to handle and decisions for him to make and so he is close to a meltdown when he finally finds the number to call his Dad's best friend Sawyer to help him. Sawyer is stunned by his best friend's death and his heart aches for Noah. He'll help but will try and remember his friend's wishes and ignore his attraction to Noah. As Noah and Sawyer dance around their growing desire, Sawyer struggles to remain true to his vow. Then outside forces interfere and threaten the future of the business, and Sawyer rushes in to keep Noah safe. Will Sawyer save the club before it’s too late? And will he abandon his oath to his best friend and claim his boy?
I liked the story of the unfortunate boy who just could not cope with the responsibilities that he suddenly inherited after the death of his Dad. I loved how Sawyer tried but just could not stay away from Noah who desperately needed a proper Daddy. The drama of the previous employees was interesting and brought danger and reason for Sawyer to ignore his agreement. Easy to read, understand and feel. This is a MM story with some mature content and a BDSM-like DDLB relationship.
I found this enjoyable but not as gripping as Boy Issues.
Noah is a Middle and has just inherited his father's kink club after the sudden death of his beloved father. I found his struggle really heart-wrenching and believable. He is well-drawn and I wanted him to get his happy ever after.
I felt much less sympathetic towards Sawyer. I couldn't get a handle on who he was, particularly.
The plot was interesting but I felt like the thriller elements could have been played up a bit rather than just sprinkled in. The mysteries of what happened to his father's phone, why staff at the club are behaving this way, etc. could have built up a lot more. I found the climax of the thriller element sort of came out of nowhere.
I really like the premise of the book - Sawyer was best friends with Noah's dad and he wants to make sure he respects his memory and wishes as much as he wants to claim Noah as his own - but, again, I feel like there was an issue there that got resolved really easily by them just shrugging and saying 'oh well never mind'.
All in all, it's a sweet story with a lovely Middle. It's worth a read.
You know, sometimes you don't need a book that tells you one of the secrets of the universe, or teaches you how to solve an ancient riddle, or tears you apart emotionally to where you don't want to read anything for a week. Sometimes, you just need a really great book.
MK delivers it, with His Middle. It's an easy to read, engaging story of a young man who's lost his father and inherited his club, and is utterly overwhelmed with being the boss, running the business, and trying to keep everyone happy. His father's best friend is his last ditch effort of finding someone to help him keep the club from closing, but is also the man he's fantasized about for all of his adult life. Noah and Sawyer navigate the challenges of the club, an originally forbidden (but not so much now) relationship, and some more serious challenges to their happiness. Throw in a llama (who didn't get any page time - I wanted llama time!), a feisty best friend, and some energetic middles, and you've got... just a really great book to enjoy.
3.5* Everyone seems to have loved this, I liked it. When Noah's dad dies suddenly he leaves him his kink club but Noah is lost. He's a middle who doesn't have the first idea about running a business and a lot of the staff seem to be taking advantage of him. Finally after three months he reaches his father's best friend (who was off hiking up Everest) and asks for help. Sawyer shows up thinking it will be a couple of weeks but it's obviously more than that, and he was crushing on Sawyer for years (and vice versa of course) but Noah's father made him promise not to go after Sawyer. But of course ....
I thought the whole incident with the former employee and loan shark was kind of unnecessary. Just them figuring out the running of the club was interesting enough to me and to be honest, I would have liked more information about that. The drama kind of took it over the top. Being a middle (around 8 years old) was different and seeing that play out different than most daddy/little books was interesting. So I liked it okay, I just wasn't "in love" with it.
I really enjoyed this book. It was exactly what I needed to read at the time. While this is the third book in the series, it can be read as a standalone (as can all the others).
After his father unexpectedly passes away, Noah needs help asap and the only one he can think of is his father's best friend, Sawyer. It was great to see Sawyer show up and start taking care of not only Noah, but start sorting out the business. I liked that Sawyer made sure he wasn't doing anything Noah didn't want at the club, but also helping Noah understand and see his own worth and good ideas.
While Noah has picked poor Daddies before, I liked that he knew himself well enough and was willing to give Sawyer's ideas a try. While I understood they both had reasons to not pursue a relationship initially, I was glad when they finally did. They meshed well and Sawyer was perfect for Noah in so many ways.
It takes a tragedy to bring them together. Now this Daddy will never let his boy go.
I love the Command and Care series! I have been waiting for this book. Noah is a middle looking for a Daddy. The death of his father leaves him with a kink club he had no idea how to run. Desperate, he calls on his father's best friend for help. Too bad Sawyer has been his fantasy Daddy forever. Sawyer has wanted Noah just as long. Now there is nothing keeping them apart. Come. Join Noah and Sawyer as they find each other and start a new life together. There will be a betrayal, danger, middle play, pizza & root beer, and veggies. Ooh, and HEA. Yes, there will be sex, but you will have to wait for it. Believe me, it's worth the wait! You are in for a treat. You need to get this book. Now! If you haven't done so, read the previous books in order. You will be glad you did. This book contains adult themes and language, mm sex and is intended for mature readers only.
Noah's father passes away and leaves him Club Playpen. On top of the loss, he is now responsible for keeping this successful club afloat. Only he does not have a head for business. Plus, he has no interest in taking the reins in any capacity. He turns to a person who may not be able to tell him no.
Sawyer lost his best friend and the father of a man whom he's had an attraction to for some time. What he did not expect was to be thrust into a situation where Noah needs him to run the club and breaking a vow to his friend of not having a relationship with his best friend's son. Back against the wall on both fronts.
Will Sawyer have the chance to claim his boy and not feel guilty? Noah needs him in more ways than one. Being a middle, Noah needs a firm and loving Daddy. A situation Sawyer can't possibly refuse. Even if it means they both break an oath to do so.

Gives whole new meaning to the term 'middle age'. Noah, was given ownership in Club Playpen upon his Dad's death. He worked there occasionaly to help out, but he had a start-up online t-shirt business. He was out of his element and cringingly overwhelmed. In his desperation not to let his Dad's legacy fold, he called on his Dad's best friend, Sawyer to hopefully guide him or help him find his feet. The conlict is Noah secretly crushed on Sawyer, hoping he would be his Daddy. And, Sawyer was attracted to Noah, but warned off by his friend, Noah's Dad. Will Sawyer answer the call? How close does Noah get to letting the business fold? Can Noah come back from the stress? Noah is a hoot as a middle. Sawyer is a good guy. Nicely written story. The characters are absolutely delightful enough, that I want to know more about the staff and their lives. Good job! I received an ARC from Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
- Telling instead of showing, particularly the relationship development happening offpage then recapped vaguely - older MC grieved for his supposed bff for a few hours while driving to go help the bff’s son; - younger MC’s grief was fixed after two months of dating older MC - commas were both neglected (consistently) and abused (inconsistently) - at one point they open the refrigerator but never shut it (so just don’t mention it being open in the first place then??) - about 60% suddenly a detailed description of the bathrooms in MC’s house. We’d been in the house already for a big chunk of the book so it wasn’t establishing setting, and the info was utterly pointless since the number/placement/layout of the bathrooms did literally nothing for the plot or the characters or ever came up again - criminal was supposedly “locked away for good” exactly 1 month after being arrested….sure, Jan
idk other things too but I’m very ready to be done thinking about this book
This book is phenomenal and I loved it! Full of fun, love and emotion, the story of Noah and Sawyer is a pleasure to read. The sudden death of Noah’s father will bring his childhood crush back into his life when he needs Sawyer’s help running the club his father left him. Noah is also a middle and hasn’t had a proper Daddy ever and the stress of trying to run the club is getting to be too much for him. Sawyer wants to be Noah’s Daddy but a promise he made to Noah’s dad stands in his way. It will be a bumpy journey with Noah’s insecurities, trouble with employees and an incident with a guy looking for Jonathan, the club’s previous manager. Sawyer will finally give in to his feelings for Noah and the two will start their journey as Daddy and boy and it will lead them to wonderful things.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
His Middle is the third book in the Command & Care series. I started this series when it first started, and I absolutely adore how each book seems to mix up the Daddy/boy dynamic with each book. Its one of the things that keeps me coming back. Sawyer is a quiet middle who doesn’t like conflict and doesn’t know how to run the business that was left behind by his father. He turns to the one person he knows will help him. His fathers best friend Noah, they dance around the mutual attraction which is fun to see. But when their connection does happen its genuine and Sawyer has the chance to let his middle self out to play, with the guidance of Noah. I loved how Noah steps in and helps Sawyer see the things that he was missing and helps set him back up to be worthy of the things that he deserves in live. I can’t wait for the next one.
