Kristen Banet has a Diet Coke problem and smokes too much. She curses like a sailor (though, she used to be one, so she uses that as an excuse) and finds that many people don’t know how to handle that. She loves to read, and before finally sitting to try her hand at writing, she had your normal kind of work history. From tattoo parlors, to the U.S. Navy, and freelance illustration, she’s stumbled through her adult years and somehow, is still kicking.
She loves to read books that make people cry. She likes to write books that make people cry (and she wants to hear about it). She’s a firm believer that nothing and no one in this world is perfect, and she enjoys exploring those imperfections—trying to make the characters seem real on the page and not just in her head.
She might just be crazy, though. Her characters think so, but this can’t be confirmed.

Check out her social media to catch what's going on in the worlds inside her head. She drops teasers, new covers, and opens ARC reader slots through her Facebook group, The Banet Pride.

Best Fantasy Series Ever!

I adore this series. It was epic! This last book was everything I could have hoped for. The thought and detail that goes into this world was absolutely perfect. Every time I read this story (series and book) it gets better. Every time I read it I have more appreciation for it.

I had no idea how the author was going to manage to bring all Mave’s males together without destroying her family. I had no idea how they were going to surmount all obstacles. Regardless, the author managed to do all those things and more. I do not have one single complaint about the story...except I wish there was more.

I think my favorite relationship in this book was between Mave and Alchan. There is something really special about their strong brother/sister bond with such deep loyalty. They relate to each other in ways no one else can understand and I love how close they’ve grown.

I loved the over-arching theme about family. This series doesn’t only focus on romantic love but also mother, father, sister, brother - adopted and otherwise. We get to see so many relationships grow, while others wither and die. The story is so intricately woven it feels like more than fantasy. I’m blown away with how the author was able to accomplish so much.

I loved the final battle! I don’t think it could have been written better. The war was intense and brutal, but it was fairly quick. I think the battle itself lasted 9 very short chapters. We get to see what is happening from everyone’s perspective, even Shadra’s, so that’s awesome. We get to see Mave kick ass, but she’s also “human” and fallible. We get to see her struggle with her powers and her injuries while she fights against overwhelming forces. I don’t think any of it could have been written better.

I know I look through reviews to find out which males Mave ends up with and I don’t think that’s a spoiler sooo... Mave now has six husbands: Mat, Bryn, Luykas, Zayden, Emerian, and Treyvan.

It's over.

FUCK.

Let me just start out with saying that Kristen Banet did an absolutely wonderful job creating her own world. I've read most of her other novels and found it a little too insta-love for me, and while the suspense and tension was (sort of) well crafted, they weren't my favorite.

In the Age of the Andinna series, though...Banet definitely has paved a large, long road for herself in the fantasy world. The world-building and plot development often outshadowed the romance, and while I'm an avid romance reader, I found that reading The Avatar's Flight was still an extraordinarily pleasant - yet bittersweet - experience.

But the world-building...holy shit. It's a point I keep circling back to, because it has been a while since I've read a fantasy series that both manages to hook me in with great writing, murder, gore, and scrumptious world and plot development. The characters continue to change and evolve along with the plot and their relationships, and while I preferred some over others (ahem ahem *Alchan* ahem ahem,) I still loved them all in their own ways.

I loved the overarching theme of family. Friendship, love, loyalty, and support - bonds that continue to grow and stand strong even in the face of war, horror, and loss. It's very hard to find, again, a fantasy novel (AND SERIES) that checks so many of these boxes, and also might be the reason why I was okay with putting the full relationship development off to the side.

Truly, this is an amazing novel and is part of a series you should definitely take the time to read. It's different, out of this world amazing - hehe, see what I did there? - and frankly, deserves all the recognition it has been receiving. Thank you, Banet, for gracing us with such a wonderful group of characters and a series that has truly changed my perspective on fantasy and technical writing development for the better.

Wow

There aren’t enough words to describe how the end of this series of 7 spectacular books has affected me. I’m sad and happy and every shade of emotion. Mave will forever be one of my favorite characters, and I can’t believe I’ll have to move on to new stories, without her on the horizon. Kristen, the way you write female strength and perseverance into a character is always so breathtaking! They always stay with me long after I’ve finished reading their stories, and Mave is no exception! What a lovely conclusion to an all-time favorite read!

I have followed Mave and her people through the highs and lows that have encompassed this epic fantasy series. From first meetings to final goodbyes, it’s been a wild, and sometimes painful, ride.

Book 7 is the final installment in this long-running narrative, the one that ties all the threads together and offers that happy every after we desperately need after Book 6. We get answers on almost everything, conclusions to Most issues and an incredibly satisfying resolution with 72. Yes, the finale with Shadra is incredibly important, but there is just something lingering about 72, a vitriol that seeps even deeper than Shandra’s machinations.

I’m going to miss these characters - I’ve grown to love them as I’ve watched them hobble through discovery and emotion. Honestly, I adore all of Banet’s work, but this may be my most favorite of all.

This series is a masterpiece, it’s definitely going to on my favorite fantasy series of all time. Mave is officially one of my favorite character ever and Kristen Banet is a wonderful author, a true genius. I’m sad to say goodbye to this world and all of those characters who have become my family and friends. I’m beyond grateful to the chance and the opportunity to have read this epic series. I’ll gladly go back to this, witnessing again this journey and be a part of this adventure. My heart is beating so fast and I have tears in my eyes, thank you so much Kristen. Truly. It was magnificent

Sometimes authors write a fantastic series only to end it less than desirably. To tell you the truth I was very worried this may be the case. I started this book excited but cautious. Luckily, my worries were unnecessary bc the author did an epic job ending one of my favorite series . This entire fantasy series was 🔥fire. Highly recommend.

I gave it a 3 star just for the last 30% of the book
It had a lot of dragging which brought nothing to the table. We could have been speared from all the unnecessary extras that could have easily been removed with a better editing.
The epilogue was too short, I’d have liked to know more. Luycas’s relationship with his sister, for instance.
Mave’s fertile cycle reaction, and introduction of the baby even.
But unfortunately I didn’t get to have all of that.
I did enjoy the war itself, and it’s conclusion. It was beautifully written and I wouldn’t have minded more of it. Or the aftermath of it and the picking up the pieces.
Well, I’m glad I have read this series, it has its ups and downs, but it satisfied my adventurous soul enough.

4.5/5 stars, but I'm super biased so we're gonna round up ;) *spoilers btw!*

It's the final battle, the epic showdown between the forces of the Andinna and the Elvasi that will determine the future of Mave's people. Mave has called upon unimaginable powers to help win this war, but as all things do, it comes at a terrible price.

This was AMAZING. I love my angry, bitter heroines, and I love them even more when death magic comes into play. Watching Mave struggle to cope with her new powers and make peace with the complex relationship that she's had with death all her life is really fascinating. The other kicker is that this is Trevan's book, and Trevan is the Best Boy in this whole series who deserves the world. But he gets SO INJURED all the time in this book and I'm just screaming at them to stop hurting my boy.

I did have complaints with this book, which primarily boiled down to some over-writing where I felt like certain character interactions could have been cut, or certain plot beats felt repetitive, or certain things were too "said" instead of "shown." I also was a little disappointed in the actual culmination of Trevan/Mave, but that could've just been because I was hyping it up too much personally.

That being said, this was a lovely ending to this incredible series, and I'm so happy yet sad that it's over. One of these days I'll reread it for sure, but in the meantime, thank you Kristen for writing something so amazing!

Feels like it took a millennia to get to a happy end but alas the Andinna win the war and finally live in peace. Everyone becoming avatars really threw me and took some getting used to but I see why it was such an integral part of the plot. Even as powerful as they were, they literally stood no chance without the added boosts. Can I also say the pain of losing Dave, her father and the griffin still lingered throughout this book. It fueled the rage and demanded the end of the empress and boy do we get that. Mave being able to change into a dragon really changed the tide and the shock to the enemy hit better than expected. This book seemed to take forever and was so very long. After seven books we finally get a HEA and an epilogue that’s the perfect wrap up!!

Overall a great series!

I loved the relationship between the characters and how it developed. Love, Friendship and Kinship are all playing a big part and progress at a realistic rate. All characters experienced some growth, especially Mave and Alchan. The world building is greatly executed and interwoven with their individual history.

I just wished the final fight would have been longer and maybe happened a bit sooner in the book.

I went back and reread the entire series so that I was fresh to read this final volume. On the whole I felt like it was a good solid ending to this long series. I liked where everyone ended up. The interference of the gods was there but not overwhelming. I typically don't like stuff with a lot of goods etc., but here it was fairly well done. They were clearly explained without a lot of mystical obfuscation and they were not based on any of the Earth pantheons so that was good.

Okay onto the story. Everything wrapped up well. Bad people got what was coming to them and the heroes and the heroine didn't come away totally unscathed. I would have liked a little more aftermath of the battle with Mave and her husbands to see them deal a bit with the new hope and release of tension that the win over the Elvasi brought. I was a little disappointed that the majority of the epilogue was totally with Mave and Alchan. But seriously that was a super minor quibble.

On the whole I recommend this book to all fantasy lovers.

I’ve really, really enjoyed this series, and was both excited and dreading finishing the last one because that would mean it was over.

This was a strong finish to the series overall. I cheered, got my heart broken, felt anxiety hoping my favs all survived, and felt satisfied seeing how all of these character arcs resolved.

The heart of this book and series were the bonds of love, family, and friendship. The worldbuilding is really well done, and there is so much character growth. I really hope Banet comes back to do more high fantasy because she does it so well and I’d buy another series in a heartbeat.

Also, I love Trevan and his wyvern! He is a sweetheart who must be protected. Luykas is probably still my fav in the mayara, though, and I have a soft spot for Mat.

I was happy overall with how things turned out at the end, even though I was sad about some of the war wounds some characters had. It’s understandable with the horrors of war, but with all the darkness of the last year, I guess I was hoping for a more clear HEA lol

Writing-wise, I do think some things could have been whittled down a bit, and there are some plot points (like Kevan) that had some redundant beats, but it was still good and didn’t detract from the experience. I think I wanted a bit more with Seanev as well—it felt like he got dropped a bit.

The romance and mayara take more of a backseat in this book again with more of a focus on the fantasy/war prep. I found myself missing seeing those character interactions, though I will say I adore all the meddling matchmaking going on (I’m looking at you Varon, Nevyn, and Luykas lol). We did get more of a focus on the mayara again at the end, which was nice, and Trevan and Emerian finally find their place in the family.

Also, I adore Alchan, Rain, and Lily — they are all adorable together. I was as invested in their story as the mayara’s. Alchan and Mave’s relationship as brother and sister is also beautiful, and I love them.

I love a lot of things about this series, ok?

I know she said she’s not planning on coming back to this world, but I will secretly hope she gets an idea in the future and comes back to it. It’s such a fun, great world. Either way, I’m so happy I had the chance to experience it.

Definitely recommend this series!

I finished this series weeks ago and the story is still fresh in my mind.
I decided to wait to review the final instalment of Banets Age of the Andinna series, just in case the endorphins I felt after finishing something I was so invested in influenced my ability to write a pragmatic review.

This series is brilliant. It's the first I have read that has influenced my view of fantasy since I discovered Sarah J Maas. Bad bitch heroines are my forte, so anything with a female main character who isn't afraid violence and anger will take away from her femininity is my jam.
And this was just that.

All in all, I never expected that while indulging in my guilty pleasure of reading smutty reverse harems would turn out to be so impactful. I will be gradually buying the series in paperback to add to my collection as it is now a new favourite.

I might even like Mave a little more than Celaena Sardothein and that is saying something.

Fuck it’s over. And I’m ruined for books for a while. Nothing will come close.

I’m going to write a better review some time later after I decide if the first or last book of this series should go on my favorites shelf (look it’s difficult ok I only have 10 at one time which means somethings got to go to make room for Age of the Andinna)

Quick takes. I love it. All of it. (But not Lilly I won’t ever love Lilly, the best I can do there is not hate her)

10🌟the final stand.

It is finally all over. I have never been more invested in a book series as I was with this one. Emotionally I'm a total wreck. The journey was amazing, and I'm some what sad, but ok that's it's finally done. It's a bittersweet feeling y'all, and I know I won't be able to read for a few days after this. We lose loved characters, some are changed entirely. War is ugly and we have to face the inevitable. Nothing will ever be the same after this last stand. We get our happy moments, New family members added all over. we also have to face some messed up truths. Yes, this book hurt my heart in ways I didn't know it could or expected. This story will forever be one of my all time favorite book series, I highly recommend. Kristen banet, another amazing masterpiece from start to finish. Well done❤

I'm not sure what to do is it really over?

So this series...one of my favorites but I was a little cautious of this book cause like well without spoiling it the book before this broke my heart. It has now been healed and I really appreciated the ending a lot of time in epic fantasy or war books the ending after everything is over is a little to soft or sweet for the characters this wasn't it was the perfect mix of dry humor and trying up character endings. I will love this series now and in a decade amazing finish

Awww!!! I loved it! So much. Oh my god! It could not have been any more perfect. The way Banet ended the book was as it should be. The relationships between all the characters were so beautiful. The way they developed brought a smile to my lips at every sweet and tender moment. I look forward to reading any books she releases in the future.

Just as exciting and emotional turmoil'i (XD) as Sarah J Maas series. How have I missed it until now is beyond me... One of the best and longest series I have read in 2 years. What a rush. I can't believe it's over already.... I feel so lost. But I love this series family characters and bad-ass-girl who gave everything to her family. I don't know what to to with myself. I feel lost. I cannot take on any series again with more books than 4 in a series. This was a rollercoaster. Thank you Kristen Banet for this.

I’m honestly so sad these books are over. I don’t want them to be at all. This was the best series I’ve read in so so so long. I don’t even know how to review this last book either it was so filled with greatness.

Mave. Mave my girl. Just perfection 😘👌🏻. She’s grown tenfold from where she came from years ago as a newly freed slave. She’s gained so much love in her life, but also lost so many people as well. She’s strong and fierce, but now she has such a range of emotions for everyone around her. She’s not just frozen anymore even if she feels the coldest she’s ever been because of her new found powers. I know she’s going to lead them to greatness right alongside Alchan.

We finally get the moments we’ve waited so long for. Kenav meets justice finally for being such a shit person. And Trevan has finally accepted his place with the Andinna and his place by Mave’s side. Such a sweet, perfect love they have. Mave finally has all her men.

Mat will probably always be my favorite. He’s her first and has been unfallible their entire relationship. He might not be flashy or get the most attention while there’s drama running around with everyone else, but he’s her deepest support. I’m glad she chose to make that deeper connection with him in the last book. He deserved it for being her foundation.

Bryn has constantly been up and down for me through the books. I love him, but sometimes I just want to smack him upside the head. He needs more confidence in who he is as a person so he can stop questioning the people he loves around him. I’m glad he stopped being such a stubborn ass though. His love for Mave makes up for his character flaws though.

Luykas still has his moments where I would’ve thought with his blood bond connection with Mave that he would’ve learned to better understand her by now, but I think he’ll figure it out eventually. Fuck his mom, But I’m glad she was part of shaping him into the man he became. He’s such a fierce protector.

Zayden is such a sweet man. I love how Mave gets to just dominate him whenever she wants. And the way he loves his son and takes care of everyone is perfection.

Emerian grew so much, he’s not the same naive boy anymore. He’s rugged with his scarred eye and with a dark fierceness he picked up from the war that is so appealing and attractive. I also thought the way he held back in hope for his bestie Trevan was really sweet.

And finally Trevan, the man who spent centuries of his life doing what he could to support our girl and has loved her longer than them all. He deserves their family so much and I’m happy he fell into it so well.

That final battle was everything I hoped it would be. Mave was just incredible and her men were the ultimate warriors. I won’t give anything away about it because it deserves all the tension and suspense the 7 books built for it to appreciate it fully. ✨

I can't believe this series is over!!! It was really incredible; the world-building was so interesting and well-thought out, and the story flowed so well and was very addictive!

Unfortunately there were some things I liked less about these books which brought down my rating to 4 stars. After finishing the first book I was so excited for the rest of the series, there was so much potential for the story, the characters, and the romance. The fact that only one male was introduced to the reverse-harem after the first book and there were multiple instalments left made me look forward to the slow-burn and building romance with the other characters. However, I was sorely disappointed. Each book of the series had the same formula: Mave starts talking to some male, she slowly finds him attractive (a reciprocal feeling as we get POVs from all characters), some meddling from other characters is done, we get a sex scene, and voilà! they now love each other fiercely. I hated that after a male joined the mayara, we stopped seeing Mave and him having long talks, meaningful moments, and relationship growth. I feel like the romance was done poorly, and the romantic relationships were very insta-love and lacked in substance. (The best example for this is the Alchan-Lily couple, it seriously pained me to read about Alchan insta-lusting after her because she was submissive and pretty, then falling in love with her when she offered to carry his child...)

All in all, I wouldn't recommend this series for its romance, but would definitely re-read it for its strong characters, amazing story, and captivating writing!
