Good second chance story mixed with intense action and suspense. The story opens as the Justice Seekers provide extra security for an appearance by the former POTUS. Gage, who used to be a Secret Service agent assigned to that same president, foils an assassination attempt. The scene between Gage and Manning, who Gage does NOT like, led to a meeting between Gage and Manning's daughter Harper. Six years earlier, Gage was part of Harper's protection detail while she was at college. Gage's honor refused to let him act on the attraction between them, so when she claimed she was pregnant with his baby, he didn't believe her. It also cost him his job.

Current day, Harper needs his help. Though told that their baby died, Harper recently received a ransom demand claiming their son was alive. I ached for Gage as he learned the truth and dealt with the emotions stirred up. He was determined to help though Harper had some issues with his take-charge attitude.

This book is full of twists and turns and unrelenting tension. Gage enlists the other Seekers to help discover the truth. While he is at her home questioning Harper and collecting information, they barely escape an attack that seems intent on ending her life. I was glued to the pages as Gage put his life on the line to keep her safe. The attack brings up questions about whether it is related to the ransom or the attack on the former president. As the Seekers delve deeper into both events, they uncover disturbing connections. I ached for Harper over the revelations that ensued. The final confrontation had me on the edge of my seat and my heartbreaking for Harper.

I liked how Gage and Harper reconnected. Both of them had done things in the past that they regretted and needed to earn forgiveness for. I thought Harper's actions that night were especially bad considering how they would be viewed were the tables turned. Gage's refusal to believe Harper was understandable considering he had no memory of the event, but he also should have trusted her enough to listen to her explanation. Once he knows the truth, Gage's guilty feelings are overwhelming. It doesn't take long for either one to realize that their old feelings had never died. There were still a couple of rough spots when information uncovered rouse Gage's suspicions, and he doesn't react well. Fortunately, that doesn't last long, and he redeems himself well. The ending was sweet but heart-wrenching, with Gage and Harper putting the past to rest and looking forward to the future.

Harper needs the help of her former lover to locate their secret love child. Will Gage offer his assistance or will the bitter way they parted stop the two of them from exploring lingering feelings? Will the danger they are facing bring them together, or tear them further apart?

I wish I could give this 2.5 stars. Ms. Diaz is great on the action sequences in this series and the mystery/suspense aspect. It is the romantic aspect that doesn't click for me.

I was not impressed with the idea of the female character taking advantage of a man when he was intoxicated and not in a clear head. If the situation had been reversed, would anyone think of it as "romantic?" Not being able to remember the first encounter was an odd choice. Surely there was physical evidence that he would have been able to find that should have indicated if the claims were true. Additionally, nothing in the book really explained why the two characters had such deep feelings, and the age and maturity gap was glaring. He knew her as a young girl who seemed to have a hero crush....there was nothing to show why he would still be attracted to who she was as a woman, and vice versa considering there had been no contact for such a long time.

I understood and believed the romantic attraction more in the last book although it had the same older man, young inexperience woman dynamic. I am also disappointed that another woman of color was written as outspoken/forward just like the lead in the last one with only a vague reference to the color of their skin not even a complete description.

Gage Bishop was secret service to Former President Manning, but circumstances had lost his job six years ago. Present day a threat was upon him and Gage was on hand, and defused the situation.
When he came face to face with First Daughter Harper Manning he was less then happy, because it was her doing. When he dropped the ball about her needing his help with something he was not sure if she was telling the truth. That was until he saw the picture. He couldn’t deny that.
Buy the book to see what happens. So much more to come. It broke my heart.

The plot had more twists and turns than a Bollywood movie.
Unrealistic…. That a daughter of an ex POTUS could deliver a child in secret without anybody even getting a whiff of it.
So let’s see what all we have -
One too-drunk-to-remember-what-happened Hero.
One time with consequence.
Hero in denial about pregnancy.
Hero losing job and blackballed.
Heroine delivering a baby in secret.
The mid wife reporting the child dead.
Years later Heroine receiving a lock of hair and a ransom note.
DNA testing.
Hero reluctantly agreeing to secretly investigate.
So many more twists *Sigh*
Ambush - dramatic escape - hydrophobia - near drowning - dodging bullets - cat and mouse game - shoot out - murder of neighbour - police investigation - capture of the bad guy - hospital stay - sudden death of the bad guy - not my child - conspiracy theory - could it be my child? - yo-yo - more secret DNA tests - eavesdropping police - exhumation of the body of the dead midwife - suspicion on family - investigation of the past of the family members - middle of the night murder attempt - bodyguard caught red handed - step sister implicated in the kidnap / ransom plot - sudden death of many people around the stepmother - oleander as a poison.

And….. after all this, it comes to light that the new born baby was murdered by the stepmother!!!!!
Up until then, all this drama was mildly amusing, but the moment it was revealed that the innocent baby was murdered by the stepmother, and the body was buried in the backyard, I wanted to stop reading further. But since this was revealed to us only in the last few pages, I went on to finish reading the book.

I Just hate it when step mothers are portrayed in a bad light!!!!!!

Lena Diaz shines in this unputdownable saga! With the third book in her Justice Seekers series the tension is stronger than ever when the one that got away steps back into the heroine's life in KILLER CONSPIRACY. The premise of the story is attention grabbing from the very start and the twists and turns keep us on our toes throughout. I'm looking forward to more in the series!

Harper has some forgiveness to earn in the beginning, but her tenacity and overall good heart goes a long way in Gage's acceptance.

Gage is easy to like and support during the story as bits of his life unravel and we learn more of his past.

I highly recommend this book as well as the entire series to anyone who enjoys an intrigue filled with strong connections and a satisfying happily ever after.

You know that everyone thinks their family is seriously screwed up? Well, this family gives new meaning to the term. Harper Manning is the daughter of the former President of the U.S. Six years ago, she fell in love with Gage Bishop, her Secret Service agent, only to have her father fire him and send him away.
Now, she is desperately in need of his help. There is a huge problem that she needs his help with, and she doesn't know what to do, only that she can't do it without him.
I could not put this book down and if I could, I would give it much more than a 5 star review!!!!

What a read! Diaz grabs you at the beginning with the characters and their situation. I don't want to give it away, but the action and suspense kept me reading whenever I could. I kept trying to figure out what was going on then something unexpected happened - again. All while Harper and Gage try to figure out their heated and tumultuous relationship. I missed the first two in this series, so now I plan to go back and read them before I purchase the final one that just came out. Great job, Lena Diaz!

this is what happens when you go to the beach and don't want to damage any of your other books. this went in a direction I didn't expect and didn't want. it had me guffawing aloud and getting quite enraged.

i'd say if you like romantic suspense, you could check out another title in this series if you're feeling generous but this one is def a skip

A completely unputdownable Intrigue with so many twists and turns you have to wonder how it all got packed into one story! And while the ending wasn’t the fairy tale HEA you can usually expect from one of Harlequin’s books, it was still satisfying.
