All her life, nurse Maia has scoffed at stories of alien abductions and breeding experiments. Until she wakes up on a strange space ship, with a baby on the way. Now Maia's determined to teach her alien captor that Earth girls are NOT easy, and he may have made the biggest mistake of his life. Unless he hasn't…
USA Today Bestselling Author Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish. She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below. Sensationalist spin? No - Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all. Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world. The Ocean's Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn't leave her alone.
Enjoyed this story, although I think I enjoyed Cowboys and Aliens more than this one. This is a cute story about a human girl, Maia who has been kidnapped for a breeding experiment. However her kidnapper is about to get the shock of his life. She is not one to back down from a fight which is what I liked about her most. Ghost is a form of Alien who is able to transform into any form, including human. He arrives at her ship to help her escape but what he finds is that she is pregnant and about to give birth! How would someone like Ghost help her when he knows barely nothing about birthing a child? Will they survive this strange predicament? Will they find out more about each other than they expected?
Good story, but would have loved more back story and fleshing out of the plot and more suspense at the end.
Received a copy from the author herself, for an honest review and this does not affect my review or rating of the book.
When nurse Maia awakens on a alien spacecraft to find herself impregnated with an alien baby, she shoots the alien with a tranquilizer dart and then airlocks him. Nobody's gonna get one-up on this chick--not even our hero, Ghost, who responds to her distress call. (When she mistakes him for an intruder rather than a rescuer, she airlocks him, too. Fortunately, he survives).
This book was so much fun to read. Highly recommend.
I chuckled reading this - it was so much fun. I really enjoyed the characters. The female lead was tenacious and willing to fight for what she wanted. The male lead was calm but persistent. Their interactions were awesome.
The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a great short read. I received an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
Loved this story of a human woman who finds herself on a small space craft with a man who has impregnated her with an alien child. Taking matters into her own hands, Maia disposes of one problem only to find herself unable to fly the craft or call for help except for an emergency beacon that will alert someone, but will it be the right someone?
Ghost is an Emergency Services worker at the Colony. As he is able to basically dematerialize and rematerialize where he is needed. He can even exist in the vacuum of space so he is the perfect being to answer the distress call from a small vessel in space. A vessel that is on a collision course. Of course, he is not expecting Maia.
Find out what happens when these two unlikely beings get together and birth them a baby. I was given an advanced copy of this book by the author. My review is voluntary.
I enjoyed reading this short book. There were plenty of parts that made me laugh. The romance is sweet. The pages get a little bit steamy near the end, but it's more sweet than anything. I'm enjoying the world of the colony more with each book I read in it.
I received a free advanced copy from the author and this is my voluntary honest review.
A quick little story with a heroine who not only awakens to find she has been experimented upon, but also has the wits to save herself and still desires to have more. No need to have read any of the other "Colony" stories, as this is completely stand alone.
This is another sweet and steamy romance set on the Colony. There is a feisty space-worthy heroine and an intelligent swoon-worthy hero. Maia, a medic bound for the Colony, wakes from stasis to discover that not only has she been kidnapped by an alien, but is about to give birth to his “experiment.” Quick thinking rids her of half the problem, but now she needs to get help before the baby decides it’s time to come. Joost, aka Ghost, is an Emergency Services Agent from the Colony sent to answer Maia’s emergency beacon. It’s too bad he looks a lot like the bad guy alien, and is about to meet the same fate. Fortunately, for him and our story, Ghost is a djinn who is able to materialize and dematerialize when necessary. Due to another emergency, Ghost can’t get clearance to land right away, and the baby is coming. Can he handle this? What will happen when they make it to the Colony? Ghost and Maia like each other. That’s a good place to start. Good read.
As this is a standalone story, I’m very happy to say it did not matter that I have not read book1 in the series. This story, the characters and definitely the drama captures your attention. I absolutely loved their fast paced, action filled journey. This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
Ok, I admit it. I’m a sucker for a good alien Sci-fi romance if it’s told well - by which I meant the sci-fi part works and the romance is well done and yummy. Demelza Carlton certainly hit that mark with Cowboys and Aliens (separately reviewed, the first in her Colony: Holiday series. And then some. I somehow missed the release of Ghost (Book 2), but that’s ok as when Vulcan (Book 3) came out that just gave me the chance to addictively binge read. And these two books were totally, deliciously, binge worthy. The leads and plots change each time (the common link being the Colony) but whether it’s book 2’s Hestia and Vulcan, or book 3’s Maia and Joost (a.k.a, Ghost), the lead abs supporting characters are perfected crafted, and the tales are just perfectly told total fun. Can’t get better if you’re in the mood for SFR, so no surprise that I highly recommend these books.
With his unique skills, Ghost had participated in rescues that had left him affected and it seemed that his next mission was going to shake him even more, but not for the worse. Maia was in great danger and alone. Her help was going to come, but in a strange way that for her would become another challenge that she was not going to reject, at all. I liked Maia's strength and willingness to handle the situation in which she found herself. She was smart, skilled, funny and with good feelings. I was struck by the descriptions of the attraction that developed between her and Ghost and how she seemed to be the dominant one in the relationship. An interesting, entertaining and intriguing story with suspense, violence, romance and passion that I liked, and I would have liked it to be longer and with more details.
This is a sweet story of a fatherless child born to an unwed mother on Christmas day. (Watch for all the Christmas references!) Despite being 9 months pregnant, Maia comes up swinging. YAY for Team Humans! However, Maia is understandably distraught to be stuck alone on a strange spaceship, locked out of the piloting and communication systems, and without a clue where in the universe she is!
So she COULD use a little help….. and that’s where Ghost comes in. No spoilers here, but this IS a love story. And it IS Christmas, even on the Colony. Treat yourself to a feel-good story sure to put a smile on your face. And Merry Christmas to you!

I Liked the book 'Ghost' by Demelza Carlton because it was an unusual and interesting story. A woman wakes aboard a strange spaceship to find herself heavy with child and a strange alien leaning over her. Instead of giving in to panic, she applies the self-defense training she has had and overpowers the alien so that now she is the one in control. Then, not being able to operate the ship, she sends out a distress signal. She is alarmed at finding another alien in the control room, not knowing that her rescuer has the ability to shift onto her ship without even needing a spacesuit. This alien is very impressed with her ability to handle each obstacle including the imminent birth of her child. It is a very interesting storyline
Maia wakes up to a purple alien touching, her pregnant belly, which was unexpected, seeing last time she knew it, she was not pregnant. She later meets Ghost, who was the Emergency Services personnel who responded to her distress call. Will Ghost be able to help Maia? What will he think of her? Maia is a great feisty woman, who is certainly up for the challenges life throws her way, and I loved her spirit. Ghost is a bit heroic, with how he helps people, is easy to love, and he seems to be a nice brother too. I am voluntarily reviewing a copy I received, and giving my thoughts and opinions on it.
Not terribly short, and does build the characters and the backgrounds into something solid.
Tale about a kidnapped woman, a midwife, implanted with a cross species child by a crazy alien. When she took a nap on the ship she served on she was a virgin, when she woke on a much smaller ship, she was heavily pregnant and a crazy purple alien was getting ready to take the child from her body. Don't piss off a medical professional, you won't like the results. Now she's alone on a ship, locked out of the controls and close to going into labor when she hits the emergency beacon. Will anyone find her in time?
Maia is a med nurse for the starship, Magellan. She stopped to sleep in a status pod and woke up in a med bay with an unknown alien hovering over her. After she manages to get free of him, she tries to figure out the space ship. The only thing she can do is hit the distress button for help.
Ghost is an elemental & he is also a medic. He is talking with his sister when a call from headquarters comes in. He is sent to check on the distress signal that Maia has sent out.
One other thing Maia was experimented on & is now full term pregnant.
Maia awoke in an unknown place with a strange, large purple alien man touching her stomach and looking down on her. This awakes the warrior inside her. Later she realises that she is pregnant but with what? Ghost comes in response to her distress beacon but she does not believe him. Some spoilers in this review but they do not detract from the overall plot as some aspects are quite harrowing. A short, exciting and sexy story full of dramatic action, kidnapping and yet surprisingly sweet, ironic and funny moments. 💕
Waking up pregnant in a strange spaceship with a tall, dark and purple male hovering over about to inject her with a sedative she turns tables gains the syringe and sedates him. At first she thinks she back on Earth as she explores the vessel but realizes she's not. She can only send out a distress signal which does. Another tall, dark and purple male appears who she thinks was hiding on the vessel but is actually there to rescue her. There are some allusions to the Christmas story so it would be a really good book to read at that time or really anytime you need an uplift.
A very clever take on the traditional Nativity story set in the future in space. Maia comes round on a space vessel to fin herself pregnant and about to be sedated again. Kronos has decided he will breed his own super race but with little success to date. After dealing with him Maia sends out a distress signal, enter ghost an emergency medical alien. Lots of humour, feisty females, confused aliens and great links to the original story. Loved it!
A wonderful take on the Nativity story without over references. Maia is impregnated by the classic evil doctor, albeit and alien doctor. Adrift on a ship alone, Ghost comes to her rescue, to be promptly shit out into space. Luckily, Ghost is a vacuum enabled Titan. He returns, Maia gives birth, and ensuing events lead to our much needed HEA. Lovely story, can't wait to hear more about baby Christos.
I received a free book and the views and opinions are my own. Talk about surprises, first Maia wakes up to find an alien ready to sedate her, she fights back and wins. Then she finds out the alien has impregnated her. I love that Maia is a strong female heroine who can defend herself and i had to laugh when she sneaks up on the Ghost and shoots him with a tranquilizer. This was a fun, fast read. I would recommend this book.
In a galaxy trying to recover from war, it can be difficult for former enemies to get along, particularly when one is dealing with the aftermath of abduction and the other looks just like her attacker. I found it heartwarming that the two were able to bond over one of the most nerve-wracking experiences a first responder ever faces. Kudos to Ghost for not fainting!

It was a nice story, but that kiss came out of nowhere... the MC's were in an emergency situation, nothing in there suggested any attraction, and yet... She kisses him, and after that she can barely wait six weeks post-partum to jump him. At least the labor was accurately described, and that was more than basically all other romances involving labor scenes can say. I liked her, he was bland, and nobody was physically described, except that he could change his skin color.
I thoroughly enjoyed the characters in this story. I adored Maia - she is a very strong, very sensible person, who dealt with a series of quite devastating emotional shocks with strength and determination. I loved that she defended herself. The happy ending was sweet, and I would have loved for this story to be longer.
A wonderful short story! Kept me captivated from the beginning to the end! Loved the sweet romance and the ending is a little steamy! I’m enjoying reading about the colony and can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I received a free advanced copy from the author, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
This was a short funny space romp. Poor woman wakes up pregnant with some purple guy standing over her and does what needs to be done to protect herself. Come to find out he is trying to start a master race. Ghost comes along as a space EMT and the hilarity begins. In the end they both get a happily ever after.
An amusing Christmas themed short sci-fi romance. There are all kinds of head nods to the Christmas story in this fast paced romance novella. With attractive aliens, and a human woman in a bit of a sticky situation, it’s an enjoyable ode to the holiday season.
An entertaining and funny Christmas read for sci-fi romance fans.
A lovely, humorous, heart-warming slow-burn love story with unusual but wonderful characters. Ghost is his nickname, he is (usually) solid flesh. Maia starts the story as a captive, very pregnant, abducted human; but her situation continuously improves until the final climax goes off the charts.
Short and sweet with a really strong female human lead and a sensitive and compassionate male Titan lead. The premise of the series (holidays with a different couple in a new colony of humans and Titans) is clever and fun. Very much enjoyed it, and at 99 cents, the price was certainly right!
