11/7/2023 - I really liked that there were 3 short stories that all related to the camping trip. The pictures were nicely detailed and I loved that at the end there was an illustrated way to draw a bear. My only complaint is that 2 young children went into a cave alone 😳😳

Princess Truly: I am Brave is an early reader book written by Kelly Greenawalt. Greenawalt's own daughter inspired her to write this book. This collection of short "small moment" stories revolves around Princess Truly and her adventures camping. Her curls glow to give her the courage to do things like explore caves and climb waterfalls. They even help her hiccups go away by facing things that she is afraid of. Her curls finally glow and help her brave the night, sleep outside and listen to scary stories around the campfire. Throughout the book, readers will learn that it is okay to be scared sometimes, and we can all find a little bravery in ourselves.

I think that students would find this to be an engaging read. The pictures are colorful and detailed, and while the text is simple, the stories have some complexity that isn’t always in early reader books. This book would be appropriate for students in 1st or 2nd grade. This book is leveled at a F&P level H. I could see this book being used as a resource to practice retelling and summarizing in a guided reading group or as a mentor text during a mini-lesson. Since this book is broken up into “chapters” or small-moment stories, it would be a great resource to practice these skills.

I Am Brave is an empowering story from the Princess Truly series that celebrates courage, confidence, and self-belief. The simple rhyming text and vibrant illustrations make it easy for young readers to connect with the message that bravery comes in many forms — from trying something new to standing up for others. The book highlights emotional strength, which is essential for helping children build resilience and self-esteem.

This story is a wonderful classroom read-aloud to promote confidence and social-emotional learning. It encourages students to embrace challenges and believe in their inner strength, just like Princess Truly.

Princess Truly is a brave princess with superpowers so she shouldn't be scared of anything, right? But does being brave mean she isn't scared of anything? Can she find a way to help her brother be brave and find bravery herself as they explore a cave and go camping?

A cute little graphic novel story in rhyme about a girl realizing that even if she is sometimes scared that doesn't mean she isn't still brave too. I love Truly's helpful attitude, and her hairdo that lights up is fun. The rhyme is done very well, and the art style is attractive.

Princess truly what are you doing!?! Don't go into a cave! That is NOT safe for a little girl. Ty is gonna drown in that waterfall. Please leave bear cubs alone! Their mother WILL maul you! Just back away slowly!

Easy to follow story with simple chapters. Great for beginning readers and it includes a fun “how to draw” at the end of the book.
