Radiography Essentials for Limited Practice begins by explaining the role of the limited practitioner and introduces the student to radiographic equipment. The radiologic sciences section covers the basics of physics, x-ray production, exposure technique, processing, and radiation safety at the appropriate level for the limited radiographer. The positioning section will provide instruction on positioning of the upper extremity, shoulder girdle, lower extremity, pelvis, spine, chest, abdomen, and head. Depending on the state in which they work, limited practitioners are licensed to x-ray all or some of these areas of the body. Paediatric and geriatric concerns and film critique complete this section. Other topics include legal and ethical concerns, patient care, infection control, and medical emergencies. The ancillary skills section covers procedures, such as, medication administration, venipuncture, urinalysis, and EKG, that limited practitioners may need depending on their work environment.
