Definitely captured the emerging atmosphere of suspicion, mistrust, betrayal and growing fear of the days leading up to the outbreak of the war. Double agents were unsuspected by the characters as well as this reader. The times were such that one never knew who to fully trust and the writer portrayed the suspense and stress of this very well. The sequence on the trains was very suspenseful and the "clicketty clack" was genius! It was like the sound of an accelerated heartbeat undergoing extreme ...more
