"A masterclass on how to create the ideal board book. It really is." –Betsy Bird, A Fuse #8 Production (SLJ Blog) A soothing and humorous bedtime story with a baby who is still up! This is the ideal board book for baby to read before lying down to sleep. The sun is DOWN but the moon is UP, and so is the baby! They are not sleepy...not at all. Perfect for babies and their loved ones, I'm Still Up! is a joyful story about the age-old struggle of bed time, and a soothing reminder that when Mommy and Daddy, the cat and the dog and even the sun are sleepy, baby might be, too. By repeating shapes, words, and language, I'm Still Up! will help your baby learn new words and routines while you read a bedtime story. Sweet, humorous, and adorable, Antoinette Portis's illustrations and simple text are perfect for fans of the Sheep in a Jeep and Llama Llama series, and Leslie Patricelli's board books.
Read by Librarian Laura on the London Public Library's on-line "Books for Babies" program. Big bold illustrations and a cute story about a baby's bedtime and patient parents.
Building on "I'm Up", this baby is still wide awake. The sun may be down but the moon is up and the baby is up. Gradually, other things like cat, teddy bear, and dog all become sleepy so baby falls asleep as well, fighting it the whole way. It's cute and definitely relatable. *Note that parents appear to be an interracial couple and baby therefore multiracial!
My son has this one memorized cover to cover, as do my wife and I, which makes sense. We've reread it every night for a few weeks by request. A delightful little book with simple bedtime-themed text, perfect for a toddler or beginning reader.
I didn't find it quiiiiite an enchanting as I'm Up, but I appreciate that it has a sense of mischief and whimsy but still ends with baby asleep in their crib. And the winky face! Family presents as interracial.
Portis seems to be able to infuse everything she touches with extra charm. The theme/plot in this board book has been done, but I don't recall ever seeing it done so well. Recommended baby shower gift (warn the parents that they'll get sleepy before baby does!).
A child is wide awake. They compare themselves to everyone and everything that's sleepy. As the story goes on, the child's eyes close more and more. It's something to point out to slightly older kids as they follow along. Super relatable to exhausted grown-ups taking care of babies.
Delightful board book about NOT being sleepy. Not AT ALL. Illustrations are simple yet effective.
I wonder if the book-ban people will try to challenge this one because the mom and the dad have different skin colors. I hope not. This is a book about peacefulness.
Very simple, very cute illustrations with excellent attention to proportion and ratio. Delightful, concise text about a baby defiantly trying to hold on to awake time.
Simple, yet engaging illustrations depict the nighttime routine of a young child who thinks they aren't sleepy. Adults will be amused by the story while children will enjoy pointing out familiar vocabulary.
