Gorgeous illustrations. The rhyming is *very* awkward and lacks flow. The story itself, as another reviewer put, “emphasizes the commercial aspect of Christmas” to an excessive degree. We read this last year (didn’t love it) and upon a reread, we’re going to be unhauling. Still, the art is gorgeous which is why we held on to it.

I've been waiting in the public library queue for this picture book written by Fallon for a few weeks so when it popped up today, I immediately opened it to read it and I wasn't disappointed.

First, the illustrations are magically beautiful with the moonlit blues of the Christmas nights. The nerdy little boy with his big block glasses and goofy, droopy dog.

Second, the countdown repetition with the poetic rhyme hits all the high notes about why kids are eager for Christmas to arrive.

Third, it's just a good old fashioned great Christmas picture book that could absolutely become a new classic.

And fourth, there are some easter eggs in there that are absolutely adorable. I love when he falls asleep and the album or book "Santa's Greatest Hits" is underneath his hand. Or when he looks through the telescope with the reindeer and sleigh reflected in the eyehole.

Perfect and lovely.

It's only 5 more sleeps 'til Christmas and this little boy and his dog are getting everything ready for Santa to come! He claims to be so excited that he can't sleep but the illustrations would suggest otherwise. When Christmas comes, the countdown begins again. This is a favorite in my house for young and old alike. The story is so relatable that it will make you giggle and the illustrations are really vibrant and colorful. It's a new Christmas classic that we didn't know we needed.

Those who celebrate the Christmas season will remember the days leading up to Santa coming and the excitement that it brings and this brightly illustrated book captures that feeling perfectly. I love Jimmy Fallon. I looked forward to reading this new book of his.

But man, is Jimmy not a writer. Maybe I'm too hard on him because I'm such a fan, but he's said that this book as "more words" than his other three--practically joke--books, but it wasn't that much more. While he kept to a rhyming scheme that some may be impressed by, I'm really not.

I could write a book like this in my sleep. And the fact that this famous comedian gets so much praise and success for publishing basically a 10 year old's Christmas poem... it doesn't sit right with me.

I like the ending. The art is sweet. But the book itself isn't anything special.

3.5 stars A cute story that captures the incredibly difficult job children have of patiently waiting until Christmas! The book is very focused on the commercial aspects of Christmas which I don't love and I feel like the boy misses lots of special moments because he's so focused on Santa and his presents. The rhyming in the book is also a little forced and awkward in places.

Finally, I have emerged a finisher of this rare literary achievement — and it has formed the foundation upon which I will build all future holiday memories.

The clever tale drew from within me the very emotions and demands that all great literature stirs within its readers: joy, wonder, a sorrowful yearning for something more, and the introspection born of life’s most haunting lingering questions. Even the most traveled journeyman will find that it is here, within these pages, that true self-discovery of the purest degree is achieved.

The carefully constructed, expertly plotted narrative rivals the most ornate design work of our original earthly architect, sir Jesus Adam Christ himself. With the turn of every page, a pleasant surprise comes prancing out from a newly unlocked door within the reader’s heart. At times, I could not be sure whether I was reading the book, or *the book* was reading *me.* It is, in a word, sublime.

Lest anyone presume this review is disingenuous, let it be known that I read the Target® Bonus Exclusive Content: Letter to Santa edition, which extends the epic by nearly 100 additional words on nearly one entire additional page! Said page purports to be a fill-in-the-blank message that readers can fill out and send to Santa Claus. On this note — this “note to Santa” note, if you will — I must here express my disdain for the absolute catastrophe of meter in said letter.

I cannot vouch for the effectiveness of the letter itself, for I choose to avoid correspondence with this particular Mr. Claus, as I have been spurned by the Big Man far too many times before. However, the irregular meter is most assuredly a result of inept authorship rather than any sort of intentional heterosyllabic form. It is, in short, of offensive quality. To whomever contributed this ill-crafted afterword, for I KNOW it could not be the great bard Jimmy Fallon himself, I say: FOR SHAME, sir. For shame.

Przed wami mała, wielka książka dla dziecka, które nie może doczekać się, kiedy będzie Gwiazdka. Przed wami 5-dniowa wyliczanka w formie rymowanki, które w bardzo łatwy sposób można zapamiętać.
Każdy z nas ma taki moment w życiu, że jak na coś, kogoś czeka to te kolejne dni jakoś tak magicznie nam się dłużą. Jak tylko zasypiasz myślisz o tym dniu o tym prezencie, jaki Was czeka etc. Czytając „5 dni do Gwiazdki” widziałam siebie, mając te 8, 9+ lat. Ile w tych dniach było radości, wyczekiwania, myślenia, analizowania, wymyślania itp. Podaruj swojemu dziecku tę radość, odliczając codziennie do Gwiazdki.
Jestem pewna, że jak tylko będzie szło spać albo będzie rano się budziło to samo poprosi o wierszyk.

This book was such a feast to the eyes! While the writing was short with a good rhyme scheme, it's the absolutely adorable illustrations that made me pick up and keep turning the pages of a book meant for toddlers :)

1st complaint is the illustrator is not given cover credit. And that’s a shame as the illustrations are fantastic. The illustrations enlive in the words in the story and yet the illustrator gets no credit until the title page.
This book sounds more like Jimmy Fallon. I see a shadow of him in my head as I read this. The cadence matches how he talks on his show and how he does interviews. The story rhymes and sometimes it’s a bit tongue twisty. Overall, this book works and I see why it’s brought out every holiday. It was quite enjoyable. I did think the ending was a little blah, but overall it works.

Καταλαβαίνω,συνεπώς,τα μικρά παιδιά που με λαχτάρα μετρούν τις ημέρες μέχρι την στιγμή που θα μπορέσουν να ανοίξουν τα κουτιά,που βρίσκονται κάτω από το στολισμένο δέντρο καί περιέχουν τα δώρα τους. Η χαρά που νιώθουν εκείνα,μεταδίδεται αυτομάτως καί σε εμάς. Καί επειδή κοντεύουμε όλο καί πιο κοντά στα Χριστούγεννα,σας έχω μία πολύ όμορφη πρόταση παραμυθιού για παιδιά ηλικίας 3 ετών καί άνω. Πρόκειται για ένα τρυφερό καί χιουμοριστικό παιδικό,χριστουγεννιάτικο παραμύθι που μιλά για τον ενθουσιασμό καί την γλύκα που νιώθουν στις καρδούλες τους τα μικρά παιδιά,όταν περιμένουν με αγωνία την ημέρα των Χριστουγέννων. Πρωταγωνιστής του βιβλίου ένα μικρό,χαριτωμένο αγοράκι που σκέφτεται πως ήταν καλό παιδί όλη την χρονιά καί τώρα περιμένει την ανταμοιβή του. Αυτό βοηθά να γίνει πιο οικεία η ιστορία στα μικρά παιδιά,να ταυτιστούν με τον βασικό ήρωα καί να περάσουν όμορφα ερχόμενα σε επαφή με το βιβλίο.

This is a really cute book about the countdown to Christmas day. A little boy is so extremely excited for the special day that he cannot sleep. He counts down the sleeps that are left before Christmas and does something every night to try and help him sleep, but still is wide awake. He ends up falling asleep every night and the countdown continues. Once he finally gets to Christmas day, he starts the countdown to next year, 364 days. The main character in this book is the little boy that is telling the story and leading the countdown. He also has a sister that is included in the illustrations of the book, but does not say anything and is not mentioned at all. He also has a puppy that is featured in the illustrations as well. The text is displayed throughout the page and blends in with the pictures, which is interesting and adds a cool effect. The illustrations are very cute and cartoon like. I really like how the book is talking about the amount of sleeps that are left until Christmas because that is something my mom always says to us rather than just counting down the days, she counts down the sleeps. It always helped us understand when we were kids what that exactly meant. I also like that it is a countdown to Christmas because that is my favorite holiday and I am the type of girl that starts the countdown to next year. I think this could be a book that is brought out around Christmas time and added to a classroom library or read to the class for fun. It would be a fun one to read every day to your students starting 5 days before winter break starts or something, even though that isn’t exactly when Christmas actually is, it might be something that is still fun for the kids to participate in. It is also a good book for a classroom because it rhymes, which can help the students stay engaged while understanding it as well.

Przepadam za książkami dla dzieci i szczególnie lubię te świąteczne. Gdy zobaczyłam zapowiedź 5 NOCY DO GWIAZDKI Jimmy'ego Fallon'a wiedziałam, że z wielką przyjemnością ją przeczytam i nie zawiodłam się. Sięgnęłam, przeczytałam, jestem zadowolona.
Treść stanowi wiersz, którego narratorem jest chłopiec czekający na Święta Bożego Narodzenia. Świetnie widać tu dziecięcą niecierpliwość, wielkie podekscytowanie i poczucie, że już za 5 nocy stanie się magia. Niezwykle urocza opowieść i wyjątkowo kochany bohater, któremu dzielnie w czekaniu towarzyszy pies.
Jednak największe wrażenie zrobiły na mnie ilustracje Rich Deas! Są świetnie, pięknie pokolorowane, nastrojowe, z miejsca czytelnik czuje świąteczną atmosferę. Obrazy są duże, przejrzyste i pełne ciekawych szczegółów i mają w sobie humor. Deans rewelacyjnie prezentuje zamysł i dowcip Fallona.
Tłumaczeniem zajął się Michał Rusinek i ogólnie - podoba mi się, choć zamiast GWIAZDKI wolałabym ŚWIĘTA, zwłaszcza, że w oryginale mamy Christmas, a słowo to lepiej, lub przynajmniej tak samo dobrze brzmi z resztą słów w wierszu.
5 NOCY DO GWIAZDKI jest pozycją wydaną pięknie. Wspaniały kolor błyszczących świąteczną czerwienią liter tytułu, piękna okładka, która doskonale wprowadza w czas oczekiwania i elegancki papier, który przyjemnie szeleści i wspaniale pachnie nowością. Bardzo mila i śliczna książeczka od autora, którego wielu zna z dowcipu.
