Hell of a Blessing is an emotional second chance read that will have you knee deep in your feelings. Blessing was a naïve 17 year old when her crackhead mama sold her to a drug dealer without her knowledge. This would be the beginning of a 10 year nightmare for her. Derrick was the devil and love inflicting pain on Blessing. After another unnecessary beating, he informs Blessing that they will now be living a Polyamorous lifestyle and he brings Zaya into their home. When Blessing voices her displeasure at this, Derrick beats her again. Having already planned to escape, Derrick's new lifestyle is the excuse Blessing needs to move up her getaway timeline. While he and Zaya are out shopping, she and her daughter dip. Blessing starts a new life in Charlotte and she meets a hood angel named Brosky. He was everything Blessing didn't know she needed. Brosky was gentle and patient with Blessing and never asked her for more than she was willing to give. He just let it be known he was not Derrick and she would always be safe with him. Brosky made sure of that by getting rid of Derrick's abusive azz. While Hell of a Blessing was about domestic violence, it wasn't over the top with drama and violence. It gives you just the right amount of suspense and romance. Mel Dau never disappoints.

How it started:🎶 Rest your weary heart. Dry your teary eyes. I know you are scarred and torn apart inside. Darlin', so am I 'cause, baby, I was born tired getting more tired as time passes me by🎶

How it ended:🎶 'Cause look at how far you have come and look at all that you have going. Look at who have become baby, you gotta keep going 🎶

Blessing has a heart that is as pure as gold. Her aura blankets her like a second skin and she will literally give you the shirt off her back. Unfortunately these qualities made her a target for a man that meant her no good and after suffering in silence for many years has decided to flee for the safety of herself and her daughter. Grabbing what she can, she high tails it to NC and never looks back.

Brosky is a man with a plan! Successful in both legal and illegal dealings, he is finally at a place in life where the only thing missing is a family of his own. After walking into his mother’s restaurant he sets eyes on Blessing and everything I described in the previous paragraph are the same things that draws him to her. She’s extremely cautious when it comes to letting her guard down and rightfully so. After all the last time this happened, it didn’t fair well.

Brosky is willing to take things slow as he peels back her layers resulting in a beautiful life with a beautiful soul.

This was a really enjoyable read and had me locked in from beginning to end! This was a BRAE pick and I definitely lucked up with this one.

3.7

Ill give it about 3.7 stars. It was an okay read. It seems like a lot was missing from the story. I couldn't really connect with the characters. It moved fast. Plus, this author loves to put these back in the day snippets in. I don't like that.

Blessing comes in many forms

This book brought light to domestic violence shelters and how important they are for victims. So glad that along Blessing's journey, she came across some angels to help her and her daughter. Brosky was exactly what Blessing needed in her life. Now Derrick was just despicable for how he treated Blessing and deserved what he got!!

Blessings On Blessings

First off, Derrick was below the scum at the bottom a very dirty bucket. WOW 😳.

This story was very heartfelt and somber, yet a good story. I deplore abuse of any form, so while reading about it isn't something I prefer to do, I love to see the abused come out on top or at the very least, alive to tell their story and move on to better.

Blessing and Glori surely pulled at my heartstrings. Blessing was young and just put into the worst of the worst of conditions. Her mother, although she thought she was showing love and protection for Blessing, was really no better than the crap of a man that she "sold" her to. Addiction is one heck of a drug. I'm glad Blessing made it out and found new roots in a new state. The Ever family were surely what she needed and I loved how open they all were to Blessing and Glori.

Brosky was all Alpha male and I wasn't made about it. He knew Blessing would be his and once he found about her daughter Glori, they both were his; his to protect and love and he did it very well.

There's just so much to unpack with Derrick (Blessings abusive ex), Zara (Derricks baby mama #2), and Mandy (the replacement for Blessing) that it makes my head hurt, so I'll just say read the book to get all the craziness that is this trip🤦🏾‍♀️.

Short yet sweet. Another great read from Mel Dau. Highly recommend.

I'm understanding this is exactly why Mel Dau doesn’t tiptoe. She walks straight into the uncomfortable and turns the lights on. Hell Of A Blessing wasn’t just a story it was a testimony. Blessing’s situation felt suffocating in the most real way. That kind of relationship where survival becomes the routine and hope feels like a luxury. What hit hardest is how honest the book was about why so many DV victims don’t leave. It’s not weakness it’s conditioning. Mental, emotional physical erosion over time.

What made this story powerful was that every character mattered. You saw the ripple effects, the bystanders, the protectors, the broken, the survivors. Brosky and Mama Glo weren’t just support they were divine placement. Literal reminders that even in hell God stations angels along the path.

This book didn’t romanticize pain or rush healing. It told the truth. Sometimes the hardest decision feels like jumping straight into hell but on the other side of that fire is freedom, safety and restoration. God never promised easy. He promised through. This story showed exactly what a hell of a blessing looks like.

Healing Power

This book was a hard one, a very triggering one!!!…My tears started before the epilogue!!!…You truly never know what someone is going through because many of us learn to smile through all our pain and turmoil!!!…
I was so proud of Blessing and the steps she took to get her and her daughter safe!!!…The moment t you make that decision and not look back, you have won the very battle that you thought would defeat you!!!…
To have a community that embraces you and provides you with the safety and security you need to heal, nothing can compare to!!!…
Momma took care of her sons, she was blessing to Blessing, Glory and the man Blessing thought very little of!!!…
Excellent book Ana I can’t imagine what it took to write it, job well done Ana I know this book will help Ana encourage someone else!!!…

Man this book was OMG I could not stop reading this book until the end. ! Third book by this author and I’m impressed. I’m so glad that Blessing was able to get her and her daughter out and although she was scared and guarded because of her past but who could blame her, growing up in the environment she was in and being handed off like a piece of meat to be walked on by a man whose only control was over her mind. I’m happy for Blessing and the woman she has become with great strong people around you, you are capable of growing.. Derrick got was his ass had coming to him and that bitch Mandy too. I’m glad everything worked out in the end. This book was a roller coaster of emotions. Domestic violence is real.!

Blessing x Brosky

Blessing deserved everything Brosky had to offer and more. She really went thru straight hell with Derrick. I hate how her life started & how her mama couldn't love her enough to let go of the drugs. But when she left that life behind, everything was on the right side of up for her. Mama Gloria was the biggest blessing that could have ever happened to Blessing. I loved how Mama Glo plotted to get Glori to meet Brosky because she knew that Blessing was guarded & she had every right to be. Broksy was so patient and respectful of all of Blessings boundaries & didn't do anything that would make her feel pressured. I was happy about the demise of Derrick & Mandy crazy ass. & I loved that Blessing got her HEA because she deserved it.

Amazing Story!

Mel Dau did an amazing job writing this story!!

This book has trigger warnings because it’s about the life of a domestic violence survivor after she escapes.

Watching Blessing come to herself and realizes how much more she deserves and leave was powerful. Then watching her find love and truly be loved was the icing on the cake.

For Brosky it was love at first sight cause he knew she was it for him but he allowed her the time she needed to accept his love and once she did it was a wrapped and he did everything in his power to show her love and to protect her and her daughter Glori!

If you are not triggered by domestic violence, then I definitely recommend you reading this book!

Great Read!

I really enjoyed this book! It started out so heavy, Derrick was such a mean ass. That part was tough to read but gave good context to set up the rest of the story. Blessing was a true survivor and she deserved all the good that being connected to Brosky came with. He was a man's man who loved fiercely and protected what was his at all costs. I love how he loved on Blessing and Glori immediately. I also loved Mama Glo, Bran and Bre. They provided a strong support system for Blessing that got her through some rough moments. I really loved how everything worked out for Brosky & Blessing and everyone around them by the end. Great book! 5 🌟 Stars!

Heart warming

This book just warmed my heart. Blessing was wise to use an opportunity to break free of an abusive relationship. She recognized that aside from her physical pain, it was causing mental pain to her young daughter, Glori. And once she made that step, didn't God send an angel on earth? The love from this family just gave me chills. I was glad that Bless was able to overcome her past, open up her heart and let love in. I loved how Brosky loved on her, and even more so, on her daughter. That helped show what love really looks and acts like. Excellent work.

A Blessing

A touching and relatable journey. I'm glad this author sheds light on this topic of domestic violence. Yes there are triggers for some, but if it helps someone than him all for it. Thankfully Blessing built up enough courage to at least acknowledge her situation and decide to get away not only for herself but for her daughter who actually knew what was going on at the age of five. As much add one tries to hide stuff from children, they actually know more than we give them credit for.
Outside of the bad situation this turned out to be a beautiful love story.

Liberated

My goodness 🤬, “Hell of a Blessing” was a fantastic story but I’m emotionally drained and ready to fight the good fight with a pot of hot three cheesy grits and melt butter 😤‼️I hate reading about domestic abuse & violence towards women & or children. …What a f’n coward, to punch, slap, kick & terrorize any woman. Derrick & Mandy earned those caps🤷🏾‍♀️‼️Thereafter, I’m grateful Blessing & Glori finally experienced & received the care, love, loyalty and family unit they desired in Brosky and the entire Evers’ community….Liberated, mind, body & spirit 🥰‼️

.

This story felt very disingenuous. It seem like it was some bootleg story of someone pretending to be Mel Dau. I'm trying to figure out why all these lames ass weak fuck boys keep getting chapters and chapters to say their bullshit peace. I'm not with that shit at all. Fuck these mfs. I've never been in a domestic violence relationship so I don't fathom how anyone could allow someone to steal their autonomy. I'm glad Blessing left before her and Glori was dead. Brosky I loved.

Double blessed

Blessing is a survivor. After all the hell she went through, she is overwhelming blessed in all areas of her life. I'm glad that she opened her mind and heart to love. Brosky is a man about his business and he knew instantly that Bless was his future. By getting to know her, he was double blessed with her and Glori, showing them what real love and family are about. I love Mama Glo, she didn't play any games.

Wonderful book 😍

I enjoyed reading this book. Considering the seriousness of the subject, it was very well written. When Blessing and her daughter run for their lives. A helping hand turns into a friendship that turns into family and eventually love. I like Blessing learning to trust again and finding out what real love feels like. And for Brosky to finally know what it feels like to fall in love for the first time. As always, it's a pleasure reading your books 🥰.

WOW

Let me start by saying that I do not like Derrick and he was a jerk. Brosky is Bae and he could get it. I glad that Blessing was able to get away, get her life together for herself and her daughter. Zaya got her Karma for wanting a spot that she was never able to have. Great book, the suspense was great, It pulled you in and kept you there.

Sweet Blessing

Blessing was such a sweet soul, undeserving of the mother she was born to; who gave/sold her to a monster. So glad she had the courage to seek a better life for herself, and her child. Ohhh, that Derrick! Wanted to throat punch him a couple times! But, Brodsky had us covered. Good read.

It was a nice read. It wasn't that much different from other books , i could kind of predict what would happen next. The grammer and the flow of the book was good and the characters were developed. For the most part it was an ok read. I love this auther and her writing , the book just wasn't personally the best to me

A second read

The first time I read this story, I did not like the premise or the idea behind this story. The second time did not yield anything better for Derrick; he was still a vile, wretched man. But then again, maybe I had more love for Blessing, Glori, Mamma Glo, and mad love for Brosky.
