Cody Collier is working toward an engineering degree. He is pretending to be a Beta, but he is actually an omega and his medication to disguise that is failing. He is taking more than the normal dose, yet he still feels the hormones changing and can lightly scent the change on his skin. He feels nauseous and has a headache. Even worse, Grayson Hart was in his first class on his first day! His best friend, Aarav Shah, arrived for breakfast and a ride to campus. Aarav was an Alpha and always there for Cody just as Cody was always there for him. And as they got in the car, Aarav commented on his scent; not strongly different, but Aarav knew him so well that he could tell.
Cody sat next to his enemy, Grayson Hart, PK University star baseball player and ALPHA fraternity boy, and shoved at his books in class. They have always annoyed each other since high school. As each moved the books in position to irritate the other, Cody ended up toppling his chair and falling on the floor. Grayson seemed to be scenting him and moved away.
When the ALPHA frat and the Engineering Club both came in to use the Rec room, Cody and Grayson got into an argument again. The scent tickling Grayson’s nose was stronger now. He scented an Omega but couldn’t identify the person. He picked out a cute little Omega dressed in pink. She wasn’t his Mystery Omega, but she would be okay for tonight. But he and Clara just talked. She was impressed with him, being such a good listener and not after one thing. But it was the Mystery Omega scent he thought of and it didn’t feel right to be with Clara that way. He also thought of Collier and his anger but also he scented his fear – what was that about?
For the rest of the semester to complete their class project, Grayson, DeAndre, Aarav and Collier were assigned to the same work group, and all groaned loud and long. Grayson hoped he would be able to get closer to finding his Omega. He already knew he was one of the Engineering students. As Cody took charge and assigned the parts each would work on, he and Grayson got into another tiff. Nose to nose with Grayson, he saw the Alpha’s lips part slightly. Was he going to make a rude comment, or was that arousal? And suddenly Cody got dizzy, pain shot through his eye as the room tilted. He opened his eyes to see Grayson only an inch from his face, a worried look, as he called “Cody” by first name. Pain shot through him again and Grayson held him as Cody thought “Alpha, Mate, Mine!” He refused to go to medical and this time, Aarav told him he needed to make a decision because he was not “fine” and he needed to stop that medication. Would Cody listen to him? Grayson was already getting closer to finding the truth out, finding himself thinking more and more about Cody Collier. And Cody’s reaction to the medication was getting worse and worse as he swallowed more painkillers. When Grayson starts to desire Cody, will he force him to tell his secrets and face up to his past that made him want nothing to do with Alphas?
This was such an enjoyable book, with a cast of characters the reader will love. Cody is a light-hearted, snarky nerd Omega who doesn’t realize how he really feels about Grayson, a strong, loving, big-hearted Alpha who is awesome with kids. The two of them, despite the irritation at each other’s antics, are perfect together. But Cody keeps fighting it. Even the secondary characters will steal your heart.
