Rejection on the Full Moon

Rate this book
Soulless - werewolves who have turned rogue with no humanity left, giving in to their beastly urges.
Rejection - an act in which your soulmate rejects the mate bond, causing immense pain to the rejected.
These are the challenges Amberle Crest must overcome after becoming an outcast amongst the wolves her age due to an event outside of her control.

When her mate rejects her on her eighteenth birthday, Amberle realizes that living in a pack where the majority would rather use her as a slave than treat her as an equal is not worth the pain. She becomes the notorious wolf, Fire Foot, vowing that everyone would regret how they treated her, as she leaves her pack in the past.

Now a ghost forgotten by those that tormented her, Amberle does whatever it takes to survive as a lone wolf. A fateful day changes her lonely life to one full of happiness and hope--until ghosts from her own past call for aid in ridding their pack of the Soulless who threatens all wolf kind.

Faced with new friends, old foes, and the threat of a building army, will Amberle be able to fight the ghosts of her past to cherish the pack she has found or will an old mate claim her before a second chance mate can show her what being treasured by someone is all about?

I’m not leaving a rating because I skimmed a ton of this. The writing editing is better than the typical wattpad/KU shifter read, but I fell off the track fairly early, and started skimming. It has an illogical/young feel to it, and I’m old so 🤷‍♀️. For instance, this all happens in the first 7%... SPOILERS

Amber/Amberle is this perfect shifter (beautiful, talented, smart, early shift with gorgeous fur) She has a perfect family with loving parents and siblings. When she’s 13ish her parents are killed by rogues, and this happens.

You bitch! This is your fault!” My head spins as a hard slap connects to my tear- stained face. My body sprawls against the forest floor as I turn to look at my sister Mia, who stands above me, her nails turning into claws.

“If you weren’t such a special wolf, our parents wouldn’t have died. It’s because of your fucking fur.”

“From now on, you are no longer our sister.”

From here forward, all the teen pack members HATE her. Her brother, sister, her BFF the future alpha.... all of them. They all blame her for these deaths and literally beat, kick, whip her for years. This is also why she’s rejected. It made very little sense to me.

Bottom Line- Skim read for me. The bones of the book are good, you can tell some thought/planning went into the plot. It a preference thing, I like more “adult” feeling shifter romances. The book ends with an epilogue several years in the future, but there is one part (villains) that’s left out there as a potential problem.

Infantile

This book had a tone and quality that is most often associated with middle-school creative writing assignments.

Amberle is cosseted and beloved by all adults, including her teachers, yet her biological siblings enjoy arson, theft, alcoholism, assault, and attempted homicide as their favourite pastimes. Somehow none of the adults are aware of the ongoing felonious behaviour. Upon turning 18, Amberle inherits millions, leaves her pack, buys a McMansion, and spends her time either bingeing Netflix or harassing the local wolf pack “to show them that they’re stupid”*.

Truly, it is hard to find the appropriate descriptors to fully convey the immaturity of this book.

*this is a direct quote.

I don’t understand how this book has sooo many high stars. The grammar errors are annoying. The book is written like a highschooler wrote it. Main plot parts I repeated 1 million times we understand that Zack is her brother. There was no growth in the characters, scenes were over written to the point where you just have to scroll past the fight because it’s getting tedious. In the beginning one of the character’a name got changed. In the middle of an important fight the amount of enemies they were fighting that changed from 90 to 80, the main tragedy for the main character got changed from happening when she was 18 to 19. I finished the book on principle will not be reading anything else.

Juvenile at best

The style of writing and how the plot was poorly executed say a lot about the writer. 1: the author is very young if not a teenager 2: The story is definitely fit for watt pad for a beginner at writing, 3: The writer's logic and perception of the world have yet to be developed and explored. In other words, the writer has a long way to go and the story wasn't very original.

Rating and Review

Rating: 3 Stars

I wondered why the synopsis for this book sounded familiar; it turns out that I originally read it a couple of years ago on Wattpad—and whilst my memory of it was hazy, I could recall it as being one of the better rejected mates stories.

I’m granting the author some leeway in my critique given the limited resources she worked with as a self-published author. For the most part, I enjoyed the story: Amberle and Dominic were extremely compatible and I loved them together, the plot was also interesting, and whilst there were grammatical and spelling errors I could mostly ignore them. That being said, the characters were the recipient of most of my criticisms. What follows is my potentially incomprehensive, spoiler-filled, character breakdowns, and personal reactions.

TL;DR: This is a remarkably good book considering it’s been self-published, but it would greatly benefit from a professional editor, who could help fix certain character arcs, making them more comprehensive and believable.

Needs an Editor

This would have been much more enjoyable if someone had edited it for grammar and punctuation. I would love to see this fixed up so it’s not as painful to read. For example, “are” instead of “our.”

Anyway, regardless of that, the story was ok but not as sexy or compelling as it could be. It was simplistic, with no intensity between Amberle & Dominic. Just fast forward from their meeting to where they are in a relationship. Also could use an explanation of why Leo did what he did after they’d been friends forever. It felt like there were dangling bits left dangling.

As I said before, I would love to see this edited and some it the characters fleshed out more. It could be really good.

Interesting premise, horrible execution.

I really wanted to like this book, it had a lot of the components I usually enjoy, and the idea for the story wasn’t bad… but oh my god this was hard to read. There were story inconsistencies, grammatical errors, important plot lines left unexplained, and important information never shared. By this I mean that there are aspects to this fantasy world that should be explained to the reader, but instead things are just mentioned off hand as if we’re supposed to understand what it means. It’s just poorly written, and there’s a lack of maturity in the way the characters think and behave. It has potential though, so hopefully future books from this author resolve a lot of these issues.

Good start

This book is a good start by a promising young author. The story was good, the characters likeable. The book needs some major editing. It was distracting at times, but the atory was very enjoyable. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Did we read the same book?

The writing style is very juvenile and the story is just riddled with plot holes. Nothing makes sense.

So first of all...is it really so difficult to find an editor? I don't presume so. So why oh why do I have to read books where the author continuously misses words and also can't decide if a teacher is a Mrs. or a Mr. and switches that up about 5 times in the same scene. It's really not that hard. The tenses used in this book are all over the place as well. Sometimes something is written in present tense and sometimes in past tense even though everything is describing ONE continuous scene. So there is really no reason to be jumping back and forth. Furthermore, it's never mentioned when she switches forms and confusing when she suddenly has hands again because she is suddenly using them but is supposed to be in wolf form. So she'll just be climbing a tree and you'll have to just assume that she is now in human form but then she is running again and you'll presume that she is in wolf form but honestly...you just don't know. Has this author never read a book with shifters in it? This is really not how it's done.

Second of all, let us take a look at Amberle as a person. She is very haughty about her school work which is the first instance that gave me pause. Then she turns out to always be super giddy about everyone's punishments etc. and that really just started to get on my nerves. Yes, everyone is mean to her but that doesn't mean that one would continuously gloat about anything and everything "bad" happening to those people. This eye for an eye thing made her very unlikable because honestly...if people bully someone and the bullied person was acting and thinking like Amberle that would just show me that that person would also be a bully if they had more power. She doesn't feel like a decent person to me.

Moving on to her so called tough life. It's claimed in the beginning that her siblings disinherit her...but they don't? She gets her father's car, gets to store all her parents' belongings and receives her inheritance after she turns 18. Doesn't sound very disinherited to me. Her little victim act is also a bit unbelievable because there is exactly one horrible instance of people physically harming her. Otherwise, all her "torture" consists of chores that she only has to do when Blue is gone. When he is there she is literally the Apple of his eye and she actually lives a pretty cushioned and supported life in a huge single room in his house. I think she basically has a floor to herself if I remember correctly. He even sets her up with 500k when she turns 18 and then she she is portrayed as this self-made person after she leaves. If I was banished with 600k in my accounts I'd be fine as well. Her life clearly wasn't that bad especially because she would have stayed if she hadn't been rejected. I wouldn't stay somewhere where I am actually severely suffering.

Anyways, let's get to the extra 100k she supposedly made by babysitting. Just for argument's sake: Let's say she made 15 dollars an hour. In that case she would have to have babysat about 6666 hours. If she now babysat 5 times a week for 5 hours she would have made 375 dollars a week. Let's say she does this continuously since she has been 13? (She certainly didn't start at 9 years old.) So she would be making 375 bucks a week for 5 years straight and wouldn't be allowed to skip a single week of 5 nights of babysitting and that adds up to 97500. So yes...it's possible, but the likelihood is pretty darn low if she was also so busy doing other people's chores and excelling at school to a degree we all can't even imagine. Additionally, she would have had to save every. Single. Dollar. That's quite some discipline for a teenager.

Another example for the completely illogical plot is the scene during which she comes to the Alphas defense at 25%. She literally has time to make a detour and switch outfits and then join the alpha (it is claimed that all of that takes her 10 minutes) but the rest of his pack still isn't there? They need 30 minutes without a whole change of outfit? What? How is this plausible???

There is also never any explanation as to why Blue is no longer the alpha and we also never get an explanation why Leo just started treating her so horribly as a child. There is no resolution or explanation. Apparently we are just supposed to believe that he is evil because he is. No motivation needed. The thing with her parents can't be it because no one apart from her siblings really blamed her for that and Leo's father also didn't, so he could have been nice to her since they even lived together. It just didn't make any sense. That is all I was asking for.

Amberle grows up in a pack that ostracized her as a child after the death of her parents. The Alpha of the pack ensures she is safe. When she is 18, she knows who her mate is, the Alpha's son, Leo. He rejects her on the full moon. She leaves the pack and becomes a rogue. In order to survive she still supplies from a nearby pack. One day she sees their Alpha, Dominic, being attacked by Souless, wolves whose minds are gone from being rogue wolves with no packs. She saves him. He then ensures she has the supplies she needs. They meet and he invites her into his pack. Gradually they realize they may be each's second chance mate. But that must wait until the mate bond with Leo ends on her third birthday after his rejection. Meanwhile, Leo's pack needs help from Dominic's tribe. Blue, Leo's father and former Alpha, asks for their help. Leo does everything he can to make it difficult. Truth's come out and, for some, forgiveness begins. Can Dominic's pack help Leo's? Will Dominic and Amberle ever be mates?

I enjoyed this story. I liked Amberle and Dominic a lot. They are perfect for each other. They fight but they also tease. They carry on traditions. I liked they strength in both of them both physically and emotionally. They are good leaders. I like how they let their pack know what is happening. I also appreciate their compassion with Amberle's old pack members. Leo and Amberle's sister, Mia, are hiss-worthy villains. They deserved what they got. I have my suspicions of them for other things as well.

The story is well written. The world building is good. Proofreading could have been better. All in all a satisfying story. Looking forward to more in this series.

There is a certain style to this story. I understand that however, there are other things that discourage readers from loving this story.
1. Grammar. (You know what has to be done)

2. The sudden move from one scene to the next. (When you're really into the story this breaks your focus. It confused me a few times. Allow your scenes to flow.

3. The similarities with wadpad rejection stories. (I've read stories that started similarly. Parents die. Blame the main character. Siblings abuses her. One day they went too far. Thought mate would love and protect her. He rejected her. Main character decides enough is enough. Leaves mate and pack for good... I've read one name "my muted mated" or something like that. I cried for the MC.

4. Emotional dept. (How is it that all of a sudden she couldn't fight off those three wolves in her room. She acted way too calm even though you said that she was scared. Show how really scared she was.)

5. Changes in the characters through the story is not solid enough. ( Her brother and sister-in-law didn't convince me with their story. I had a feeling that there could have been more. Look at how they treated her. Would you have blindly listened to your sister? Let her tell how to treat your other sister?

6. Reasons why some characters do what they do( e.g the reason to why Leo turned on her left me scrambling for answers. Why did he turned on his best friend like that?)

I love strong female characters and I enjoyed reading how see succeeded in her life after that rejection. This story has so much potential. A little bit of fixing and boom! You got yourself a keeper!

I used to like this a lot, but now that I re-read it the book doesn't seem so appealing anymore. The premise is interesting, but the way it is executed is not. For me, much of the plot just rushed by so fast. A lot of things are cliché or downright cringe. Look, I'm not expecting things to be relatable or realistic, because it's definitely not, but I'd like to have some logic in here.

The antagonists turn on the protagonist for a bullshit reason (in my opinion). It seems like the author is just turning them evil for the sake of it, but didn't flush out their characters at all. The whole time when they were picking and bullying the protagonist, it just seemed like child's play. A lot of things are based off of extremely petty reasons that I cannot fathom, and solutions just come in a blink of an eye. In general, everything seems 2D and nothing stands out. Girl gets rejected, saves a hot man, she and the hot man buddy buddy, then she gets to slap face. The end.

Something that is debatably worse than the rushed plot and lack of character development is the grammar. Run on sentences, misspelled words, wrong usage of past/present/future tense, etc. It just makes everything even more unenjoyable.

In conclusion: the idea of this book is interesting and you can give it a go, but don't expect much from it. I enjoyed it a few years ago when I read it, and maybe because I've become more picky with my books, it doesn't appeal as much.

I’m almost half way threw the book and don’t understand how anyone rated this over two stars . One the main character is just GIVING everything that comes to her money, being the best tracker , good looks, amazing fur, etc. (the first pages made it sound like no one but one person loved her but multiple people did, like realistically I know it’s a book but how did her parents manage to give her millions ? Then her brother and sister just turn on her like oh you got our parents killed now we are gonna torture you, why did the sister have to be slut shamed so much and apparently the “ugly sister” and a stripper on top of that . And god the author says idiot all the time ! calling everyone and idiot that was pointless. The blood oat she did was stupid no real build up to what it was she just did it and then that was it , and she made rogues sound like mindless nobody’s but just so happen to get some rogues who just got out of culinary school none the less to work in her shop . She has a “mini mansion” the made absolutely no sense and would have to HUGE with how she described it in over three pages of you really didn’t need to put this in the book. This was just not a good book , like I guess I could see the potential but it lacked in every area .

Finally almost die yet another eye roll ,alpha mans up haha, please he weak alpha ..matte fact they all are.Alpha son rejects, her sister is nice side piece after all.She becomes rouge ,opens store ( none of these struggles are explored ,just told to you ) and is a hated secret fake man valiantly kick butt something another..briefly talked about....met her second mate train his men cause....of course she the strongest and she is supper .....old pack need help, go slight friction .then friction is just occasionally there ,briefly two seconds then goes away. Training ,cooking ,going home to bed ,preparing for storm. Blustering ex mate attempt rape for two seconds ...boring
Man you had such a good plot idea .Should have ran with it or got Ghost Writer cause my eyes bleed with boredom. Sorry

I read a few reviews before I gave this book a shot. Saw a few demanding a trigger warning or stating one themselves. Reading the book I was confused as to why a trigger warning was even necessary, sure there's some bullying all pretty mild except for maybe one occasion the bullys take it too far and leave a scar on her back. So yeah I guess if your super sensitive to mild fictional bullying please be warned that about 1% of the book has some mild bullying. The rest of the book is actually pretty good and worth the read. Dominic and Am have such a super cute relationship, I love how it grows from friends, their banter and familiarity not just between themselves but with their pack really gives out a close family vibe that you don't get from much books about a pack. I love the underdog vibe the book puts out and the win at the end. Deff worth the read and recommend.

just okay

This one is just okay. I started reading an immediately thought, it must be a Wattpad story that’s been published, and it is.
If you are familiar with Wattpad and have read any stories on there then you know what I’m talking about. The stories are just okay.
This one had the potential to be better with a little bit more fine tuning and editing. There are several places in the book that the timeline doesn’t match up. The dates don’t add up, years, weeks, and months are all wrong. It gets a little confusing.
For me I was hoping for a little bit more romance. This books romance doesn’t start until close to 70%. I’m talking not even a hint of it. You know who she wants to be with just because the heroine says it, there is no stollen kisses or sexual tension at all.
Once everything starts moving it moves in warp speed. I really wish it had been executed differently because I really felt like this one could have been great.

It was ok. But it was missing any kind of angst at all. The h is allowed to leave at 18, and this causes zero problems because she was gifted a home and inherited a two million dollar trust fund. She gets to open a store selling medicinal herbs and keep the business afloat with her trust fund. She immediately meets H and they get along great. Her living in his territory illegally doesn't bother him at all.

A couple of years later, she has to return to her old pack and see her ex-mate who is now on a relationship with her sister. But Ex and sister are off having sex all the time and are never around. So all the angst you'd normally get from their forced proximity never happens.

Everything just keeps working out for h.

Story has potential but needs more conflict.

I don’t understand a lot of what happened, or mostly how it happened. How did Mia have so much power over so many people? She wasn’t highly ranked until after Amber left the pack, she was basically still a kid herself or YA. But some how she got their brother on her side using guilt? But he didn’t feel any guilt towards Amber? And the son of the alpha, who was with Amber when it happened and was also being protected? It just didn’t make any sense how this dumb kid got all the others to turn on Amber. The older adults didn’t, but they also weren’t paying any attention to what was happening under their noses and when it got to going to the hospital levels the only punishment was the alpha’s kid was sent away for training? Like wtf. Just did not make sense.

My biggest issue with this book was how unbelievable it is. Lol and I say that as it’s a paranormal romance….but what Alpha hero takes his beta and all his top hunters and trackers to another pack 6 hours away to train them for a few weeks while they are being attacked by the soulless - and basically leaves his whole pack vulnerable when they were having soulless attacks too? Then there is the idea that the heroines previous pack abused her while the alpha and beta were away - and they knew about it - but couldn’t stop it? That all just didn’t make sense to me.

The romance was a bit lack luster to me - they were friends first, even sleeping in the same bed for a year basically before they even kiss. Which is fine really, except in a romance novel sometimes it just feels too dull to me.

Did not finish. 60something %

The fmc seemed like she was trying too hard. The fight scenes were comical at best. Like why is she fighting & she throwing winks and being distracted? Does that seem smart ? And everyone is always in awe of her. Like why? She trained for her position. There’s nothing to be in awe of.

At most, she can be complimented on her competency, but even that is surface level, which I don’t get because w how vital it was to the fmc’s personality, the author should have done more than surface level research on training exercises, endurance training and so on. But all we got was some strange dichotomy of tag & flag football 🙄

Then, hearing women being called whores by other women, including the fmc left a sour taste in my mouth

All in all, a disappointment

Great potential, needs some work.

I really enjoyed this book until closer to the end. I feel like a lot about what was going on with the soulless just kinda dropped off. You don't find out about why she was suspicious of an ally pack and what happened to the army of the soulless that seemed to still be attacking packs. I really wish this could have maybe been two books so more of the story line could have been filled out. I found a lot of spelling and Grammer errors so that should be better looked at. But I know she is a newer author and I can look past the spelling mistakes for now. I can see great potential for this Author as she grows though.

Rejection on the Full Moon I just got done reading was heart breaking and wanting to beat the crap out of her brother sister and best friend as how they treated Amberle. Family does not do that but they did and finally reaching her Eighteenth Birthday she was ready to get out of her pack, but when she realized that she was reacting to her mate but this encounter didn't go well. Leo son of Alpha Blue was to be her mate but in front of the whole pack he rejected her so when the shock wore off a little Amberle did the same and left to become a Female Rogue to live outside the pack.
Read the book some strong language but a read that makes you want to read more of.

So Good, I Read it Twice!!

Something about a great rejection story with a HEA, just helps lift you up. It makes you think all the bad relationships and struggles in life might be worth it, and be leading you to your own fabulous fate. This is one of those stories. When you question why bother trying to find your other half, and question all the BS life throws your way, this book helps re-adjust your outlook and find your spark of hope. I've read it twice and both times, I've finished with a little more hope for my own future. I definitely recommend to anyone feeling a bit rejected and down. Thank you Alana, for sharing your gift of writing with us!

It's a start......

The Author has potential but there is a very clear need for proof reading and rewrites. This is obviously a first attempt at a novel that has not gone through a proper editing cycle, with grammar and punctuation mistakes aplenty. The concept and characters are there; but there are moments when scenes go on to long and characters that are built up to be integral to the story hold little purpose. Alan Dyer should keep trying but may benefit from a second pair of eyes.

A fairly good read.

I think this book has uber potential but there are a few things that fall short. First, there are grammatical errors, word choice issues, as well as some naming issues toward the end of the book. Second, the time-line is a mess and needs cleaning up. Finally, the story ends but leaves way too many unanswered questions. However, even with all that I don't regret the read so I consider that a win.
