“The gag is for you, princess. You don’t want the whole crew hearing your business, do you?”

She shakes her head before she can stop herself. It’s another lie. I’d bet my life on it. I’d bet she would get wetter if I lined them all up outside the door and made them watch. I circle her mouth with a fingertip, then undo my pants.

She’s tied up, gagged, humiliated, and her eyes move down over my body to the cock that’s about to fuck her.

I don’t think those eyes can get any wider.

Then she sees my piercing.

Ashley can’t stop looking at it, breathing hard through her gag.

The shell of her ear is too tempting not to bite, so I do it, the resulting shiver moving all the way down through her body. “Yes,” I tell her. One more graze of my teeth. “You’ll be able to feel it.”

I’m finished waiting.

"The yacht moves away. By the time I look back, it's far in the distance, a second boat in front of it. I turn in an awkward full circle. Kick, kick, kick. The waves seemed so placid before. I was wrong about that. The sea is constantly moving. It pushes me this way, then that, tugging me where it wants me to go. There's no land for miles. I'm along. I'm adrift at sea."

HOLY CLIFFHANGER, BATMAN!

description

This is actually my first book by Amelia Wilde, and even though I realize this story starts a new trilogy that spins off of two others that she has already created, the cover drew me in enough that I had to start here anyway. There are some mentions of Poseidon's siblings, but I love how the author doesn't spoil anything for the previous books and allows the reader to go back and experience Zeus and Hades's tales first hand.

The book starts with Ashley on vacation with her boyfriend, Robbie, and by the end of the first chapter she is adrift at sea, alone and clinging to a buoy for dear life. Along comes Poseidon and his crew, seemingly saving the day, only for Ashley to find out that his crew may be more dangerous than the drug dealers who murdered her boyfriend just before. The pacing is fast, and this novella is light on character details, but I found this to be an enjoyable experience and wonderful palate cleanser between heavier reads.

Coming in at roughly 200 pages, this is a fast paced tale, and one I would file more under light erotica than romance at the moment, but one full of danger, intrigue, and thrilling expeditions. Since we have to wait until the end of March for the next installment, I will go back and read the brothers' books in the mean time. Can't wait to see what happens to Ashley and Poseidon next!

"The sea does not call to me any more than gravity whispers in my ear. It's an elemental force, alive with sound and fury and the kind of gleeful violence that makes my blood sing."

So I may have had too high expectations for this, but in my defense if I hear the words “pirate romance” I’m going to have all the expectations. This wasn’t bad, but not much really happens besides the heroine being taken in as the hero’s prisoner. Then at the end the story takes an unexpected dark turn and I’m not sure how the hero will make up for it. I’m hoping the romance picks up more in the next book.

This book started off fine. I thought it was just gonna be an asshole hero and an innocent heroine. Turns out it’s an abusive hero and a stupid heroine.

Spoilers ahead...

Girl almost gets raped by another crew and after saving her instead of figuring out if she’s okay the hero ties her naked to the ship and whips her. Scars up her whole back and we’re supposed to be okay with this just because he was abused as a child and doesn’t know how to process his feelings.

I hate abusive heroes and I don’t understand why people keep romanticizing this shit.

The moment I make contact she breaks her own rules. Ashley arches off the bed and into me, as close as she can get. As close as she was in the water, but she’s half naked and I’m fully fucking clothed and it is killing me. I finger-fuck her back across the bed until it’s not me she’s straining against, it’s the chain around her ankle, and I lean down to speak directly into her ear.

“Do you feel that?”

A sob. “Yes.”

I fuck her harder, as deep as I can get. “I’m not talking about my fingers, princess.”

“I—” Her eyelashes look so long in the moonlight, her cheeks so flushed and mortified. “I feel the chain too.” When she says it her hips rise off the bed and her pussy grips my fingers tighter.

“It must be embarrassing for you.” More pressure on her clit. More tiny circles.

“What must be?”

I won’t let her look at me. If I let her look at me, if I let her turn her head, then I’ll take her out of this bed right now and fuck her over my desk.

“Coming so much harder because there’s a chain on your ankle."

Who knew modern-day pirates could be so damn sexy?
I mean seriously... this Poseidon dude is something else. Imagine a sexy as sin tattooed sea god, all muscles and power, closed-off and intense, with a take no prisoners attitude (well... it depends on the prisoner really). I would have him save me from drowning every day of the week. ;)
Ashley, the love interest, is a young social media sweetheart, sheltered and naïve. Suffice it to say, she was not my favorite character but I hope she will grow up and grow on me in the next books. Their relationship is complex and complicated, with a lot of twists and turns. They are in a captor/captive situation and what I liked most about her was that she never gave up on trying to get away.

It was my first time reading Amelia Wilde and I am really liking her writing style.
This is the first book in her brand new series - a Greek mythology retelling of Poseidon.
The story is really dark, twisted and angsty, with a lot of trigger warnings. The sea is ever present like a living/breathing 3rd main character. The intense vibe of the story and the plot twists kept me reading well into the night. And the cliffhanger is movie worthy.
If you're like me and you fancy the dark and twisted tropes (mafia, MC, captor/captive), then Poseidon is your guy.

There are 2 other series about Poseidon's brothers, Zeus and Hades, that are already out and I am definitely picking them up.

Trigger warnings for: murder, captivity, bondage, near rape, consensual non-consent, beating.

Ashley Donnelly is on a secret vacation with her boyfriend when her live is turned upside down.
He tried to make a deal with some shady people in the middle of the ocean and ended up giving up much more than he planned. Those people then hijack his yacht and Ashley fearing for her life jumps into the deep blue sea to save herself.

Hours later, barely hanging on, she is rescued by Poseidon. A dark and ruthless pirate who loves the ocean more than anything. He can't decide what he wants to do with her, but after finding out her true identity he realizes he can utilize her more alive than dead. He is ruthless and one you don't want to cross.

Could she have just escaped one devil to fall into the hands of yet another one.
I wasn't quite sure how this story was going to play out in the start of the book, but I'm really liking how it's picked up speed toward the middle and even more so at the end.
I started falling for Poseidon, but as the book progressed the anti hero in him started to shine and make waves. My heart hurt for Ashley towards the end. After starting to truly care for her captor she now hates him and I don't blame her.

I can't wait to continue on with their story!

I have been reading and loving everything Amelia Wilde for a while now. But this story, right here, just blew my mind away. Destroyed. Undone. The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is the epic and larger than life romance that is just too impossible to praise with words. Action. Drama. Romance. Suspense. Angst. Steam. All came together impossibly well with Amelia Wilde's brilliant writing.

Ashley was on a secret vacation with her boyfriend. And their yacht gets attacked and her boyfriend is killed and she jumps into the sea to save her life. Only to be rescued by the devil of the sea, Poseidon. The gorgeous pirate. The man who doesn't care about society and its rules. Who is violent, intriguing and oh so bad for her. But is he the worst?

So Poseidon is the last brother to get a story. And wow the author saved best for the last. And if you haven't read Zeus and Hades' trilogy yet, what are you even doing with your life. This man is toxic. And irresistible. He has a droolworthy body. A vicious mind. And a dark heart with secrets and scars. And he has a sinful mouth that says the most outrageous, ridiculously dirty and unreasonably sexy things. He doesn't need emotional connection beyond what he feels for the sea. His life is an endless quest and all about loyalty to his mates running the ship with him. But society princess Ashley rocked his world and broke his walls. She may be sweet and innocent superficially but she has the fiercest heart. She fought and fought to find her own freedom. She is also attracted to the violent charm of Poseidon. And wow there were fireworks in pages. Like the most tantalizing things you can imagine. Poseidon is fascinated with her light and that may cost them. Because the life on sea is merciless and even a single mistake can cost them all. They have this insane love-hate dynamics that's just too explosive. Poseidon is corrupting her, hurting her and breaking her. Yet he cannot let her go and she cannot help but want him. The storyline is maddening. Just crazy. And I yelled and cursed for that cliffy. That was not for fainthearted.

The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea by Amelia Wilde was a complete rollercoaster. At one moment I was breathless with all the intense and aching feels. At the next moment I was having trouble keeping up with the action packed twists and turns. And the very next moment, I was swooning and blushing. What an amazing love story!

Ok so this is hard to review. In my opinion 200 pages is not a story and I told myself that I'd stop starting trilogies like this but sometimes a story sounds so good and I can't help myself. Have I mentioned this 200 page book was also over $5...😯 ...for 1/3 of a story folks.

Anyway I'm getting bogged down in the negative. If this was a full length book I'd say this is easily a 4 star start to the book. I love Poseidon, he's cruel and sexy and exactly how I love my H's. He's morally grey, and the kind of anti hero that makes you blush with his filthy, filthy mouth.

Ashley is...not loving her tbh. She's a bit TSTL but I'm hoping she'll pull her stupid princess head out of her ass in the next book.

That's right...I'm gonna read the next book despite my bitching about the price. I feel like it has potential but honestly authors, just release 1 book. As much as I enjoy this authors writing I'm not a rich pirate who can afford to spend close to $20 Australian dollars on a story so sadly I'm not gonna be delving into her previous books. I get that this is art and it's someone's living but it's exorbitant at that price range.

FOR-A-FULL-REVIEW-VISIT

MY RATING: 2.75*
RELEASE DATE: 19 January 2021
CLIFFHANGER: Yes

ARC was kindly provided for an honest review

I am struggling to review this book, honestly. This is my first book by this author and I really wanted to love, but I didn't, but I didn't dislike it either. I had some serious issues with it.
We meet rich girl socialite Ashley when she sets out on holiday with her boyfriend on his yacht. when he’s killed by what we believe to be his drug dealers, to save herself, she jumps off the yacht and is later picked up by Poseidon, the pirate. Poseidon, being curious about Ashley decides to investigate who she is, and the results are that Ashley would make a very lucrative hostage.

description

OK, so let’s get into it now…
I’m not at all convinced of the romance between these two. Poseidon decides to Keep Ashley as a hostage but spends enormous amount of money on her and basically treats her like a girlfriend the whole time she’s aboard his ship. I mean he teaches her to swim for goodness sake. I mean I’ve never been taken hostage, but I do not imagine my capture will be all that bothered about my lacking swimming skills.

description

The whole time they are on together, I don’t feel like they did anything at all. How could he even be in love with her, they hardly spent any time together and had sex ONES. There is a lot of inner monologue though, and to be honest, as far as Poseidon is concerned, I don’t know the man at all. I don’t know what the hell he was talking about half the time, and throughout the whole book I felt like there is a book or 2 that I should have read before this one in order to get him. He kept referring to things that were never addressed in the book that I think were a carry over from previous book(s). So, I was lost as a motherfucker and I kept going back and forth between whether it was a paranormal book or not.

So, I wish I’d know this before I started to read this one because I feel so cheated. I got lost even further when we got to the last 2 chapters or so after Ashley was rescued by Poseidon after her little escape-plan-gone-bad. When Poseidon lost his shit and hurt Ashley but kept referring to his father. What the hell is that about? Poseidon history is obviously very bad and dark, but it’s not revealed in this book. I don’t know if it was in the previous book or will it be elaborated in the next. But still

description

I refuse to believe that a man who claims to love a woman, albeit, much to his horror, would do something like that in a bid to rid himself of the feelings. No! Poseidon is in for the mother of all grovelling and I pray to all that is Holy that Ashley makes him work his kneecaps to the bone while doing said grovelling. She better not just forgive him for some dumb reason like guilt or that she deserves it after the escapade. No, fuck that. What he did was fucked up. Also how did the “rescuers” find Poseidon’s ship? I imagine seeing as he’s a pirate and he’s not exactly the most kosher of businessmen, you can’t just track his whereabouts that easily surely?

description

As you can see, I’ve got some issues with this book and to be honest the writing style was not necessarily to my liking. Too poetic for my palette. But make no mistake, I will be reading the next book, but don’t make the mistake I did. Read the previous books, I think Zeus and Hades are his brothers, so whatever they’re books are, read them first. I think you’ll get a lot more satisfaction out of this book.

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is the sexy pirate romance that we've all been waiting for. Amelia Wilde gives readers a steamy and exciting story that kicks off this series with a bang and will leave them wanting more.

"You're making me question my own ethics, princess. That doesn't bode well for you."

Poseidon and Ashley were both well written characters. They came from completely different worlds and crashed together in a completely unexpected way. Readers know Poseidon from his brothers' books, and it was great to finally get inside his head. I loved the way he interacted with Ashley, and I can't wait to see how the author is going to explore their growing connection further. As captor and hostage, these two were so hot together. Their chemistry was sizzling and I loved the tension that was woven into their intimate moments.

"I have no idea what's going to happen but I'm alive with it. I'm painfully alive, every nerve firing with panic and desire."

This book had a fast-paced plot that made it difficult to put down. The intimate moments worked well with the suspenseful ones, and I really enjoyed the mystery of the treasure that was woven into the storyline. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book in the series to see what's in store next for Poseidon and Ashley.

2 good bones but lacks courage ⭐️

Listen, this was intriguing and it could have been an amazing modern, bodice ripper/ Pirate adventure/ romance. But it wasn’t. It didn’t go far or dark enough. Instead we got something akin to insta lust / insta love.
I wanted more tension, more fear, it would have been much more interesting, to me at least.

It had a modern day feel of Karen Robards’ ,Island Flame. Except that book went so dark and crossed so many boundaries, that I didn’t believe what I was reading. Which is why I still remember that book! This is forgettable, it was cute, but not anything I got attached to at all.

It ends on a cliffhanger, which is a bold choice, because the story did not feel like it even really started. I had no attachments to the characters and the worst part is, I could have had, if it had gone further with everything. All the relationships included.

A cliffhanger is like begging for more money, it’s the likes of Harry Potter and the Lord of the rings trilogy. But to make a short book like this, end on a cliffhanger, is a very high self evaluation!

Should you read it? I wouldn’t tell anyone too.

Amelia Wilde has done it again With The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, delivering another amazing read full of dark, mysterious and flawed but beautiful characters. This book was an enticingly dark and delicious read that I could NOT put down! I couldn’t get enough of Poseidon’s cruel sensuality. He is so dark and mysterious but I can tell he has a heart of gold under all those many layers of ice. I think he is going to be my favorite of the three brothers. Ashley is the perfect match for him and just the woman to bring him to his knees. This book made me laugh, sigh, swoon and almost throw my Kindle after that shocking ending. This is my new favorite book and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Written by: Amelia Wilde

These Gods amongst men! The last brother, the one who was hardest to reach the one who makes cameo appearances, Poseidon!

Tidbits have told us just a bit about this man, he loves the water, he maybe involved in legitimate shipping, and he’s probably a pirate!

Ashley Donnelly, spoiled little rich girl goes on a weekend outing with boyfriend Robbie Morrison. It starts out grand, lazing in the sun, fooling her father as to where she is and finding herself attached to a buoy floating in the ocean hoping the men who just shot Robbie don’t see her slide off the back to the yacht. Oh, one more thing, Ashley doesn’t know how to swim.

Rescued by Poseidon, Ashley is recovering from her near death bout with the sea. You’d think she might have learned a lesson, but well how can one say it politely NO SHE DOESN’T!

Amelia Wilde, (I really have grown fond of this woman) has begun their saga, a botched drug deal, a near drowning and a rescue or two (oh no that’s not everything).

What we get is a Pirate who has ideas, runs a tight ship and sounds like on a good day the kind of pirate you’d want to hang out with and then there are the days when swashbuckling antics are the only way out of a situation. She’s done it again, given readers a Man God who is always looking out for trouble, pearls and himself. The biggest question is….will he be calling his brothers for help?

If you have become attached to Modern Day Man Gods then you will want to hop right on over and one click for this book and I can promise you when we pick up at sea with Poseidon and his crew we will be guaranteed a hell of a good fight!

Just awful

How in the name of all that is holy, did this book get so many positive reviews?
First (and the lesser of my issues): The writing style is a little awkward. What is with the repetitive statements? I felt like I was reading Howard Hughs during one of his episodes. Also, a lot of the arguments didn't have any logical flow to them. The speaker would make a statement and then support it with something unconnected and irrelevant; it was confusing. Like the author was shooting for some kind of deep, meaningful thought but missed the mark and ended up with gibberish.

Second (the main issue): This book is not a romance, it's a tragedy, and a horribly abusive one at that. I can understand BDSM, but that is absolutely not what happened here. This dude WHIPPED her. Naked. In front of a group of men. Just after she'd almost been gang raped. The cherry on top of his already horrible behavior to her. I kept thinking, ok this guy is messed up but he hasn't done anything irredeemable yet. Just some mean threats, this can be salvaged. But then 90% rolls around and that hope goes straight up in smoke. The fact that the heroine still wants him after that dumpster fire at the end makes me think she should be committed to an asylum if she ever does get rescued (because after suffering through her warped thoughts, we all know she's not the type to successfully escape on her own). It's the same twisted reasoning that battered spouses experience. So no. Just no to this whole book. People who enjoyed this story need to see a therapist.

Modern day pirate?? Count me in!
This was quick, delicious and captivating!!!💕
Ashley ends up drifting in the sea after her boyfriend is gone. She ends up saved by Poseidon,a man who clearly wants to use her as leverage for money. Ransom.
But what happens when the man who was sworn to love only the sea ends up falling for his own hostage??
The book was AMAZING. I love quick reads with fully fleshed out characters and steamy romance!!! There is action, danger, sizzling romance and an antihero that will steal your heart!
And that ending!!! I was not expecting that!
On to the second book!

Poseidon. Wow. He was so much more than I was expecting and hoping for, I was thinking a brooding sea captain but I got buckets and buckets more than that. Ashley doesn’t know what hit her, it’s an amazing experience that is epic from chapter one. She goes from tragedy to tragedy getting stronger along the way, and all the while Poseidon’s barriers are becoming weaker to the pearl he didn’t know he was searching for. This cliffhanger has my adrenaline pumping and my insides screaming for what happens next. I hope Amelia never stops adding to this amazing book universe.

THE DEVIL AND THE DEEP BLUE SEA by Amelia Wilde starts the story of Poseidon and Ashley.
Ashley is a spoiled women who went away with her boyfriend but things went wrong pretty fast. Which leads her to Poseidon who is a harden pirate. This book took me into the story from the first few pages. I am of course a fan of this author's writing so it was a must read for me. I can't wait for the next book to come out.

“If someone told you I was nice, they lied.”
I thought long & hard on how to word this over the past few days. As I see how much thought had gone into Poseidon & Ashley story, the potential, but for me it missed the mark.

This is my first taste of Amelia Wilde's writing, and I wasn't thrilled.

I have been in love with Greek mythology since I can remember and I was so excited to receive this as an arc to see Amelia's interpretation of The Greek Gods & their relationship with technology.

Honestly, if I didn't know there was second book in this series, (not yet released) I don't think I could give this a rating.

I do love a good cliffhanger but for me Poseidon & Ashley's relationship never got started, yes they had intimate moments but they felt either forced or just wrong. As the book developed I struggled to get into it, Wilde's style of writing isn't for me.

There is some incredible lines.
But when the story in my opinion got started, the book ended.

The drama and suspense built, and I enjoyed that, believing it was a slow burn.

I liked seeing how Poseidons mind works & how complex he was, it was fascinating.

Amelia showed how determined Ashley is and despite her lack of talents with the waves she didn't give up, she kept fighting.

At 214 pages, it felt like the book had just been cut in half. The excitement of what was about to happen dropped.

On its own I can't recommend this book, as it doesn't feel like it's finished. Once the second is released I'll revisit my views.

Since I got my first glance of sea loving Poseidon I couldn't wait for his story. The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea is book one of his trilogy and it had me hooked from chapter one!!

What happens when you decide to sneak away and spend spring break with your boyfriend, on his family's yacht? Ask poor Ashley....things go terribly wrong and it seems like her tragic family history may repeat itself. Ashley only has a split second to make a decision....stay on board and be found or jump ship!

Enter Poseidon. He, like his brothers Hades and Zeus, is a damaged soul. Damaged deeply by his father. He has one love and that is the Sea. Yet when he finds Ashley adrift at sea, he can't seem to let her out of his sight. He's starting to feel something and he really kinda hates it. In his own gruff and growly way, he's "sweet" to her. There really is no denying their attraction though. It's intense and when Ashley makes a wrong decision, one that puts her life in danger? She sees the dark side of Poseidon and we get a look at the damage his father did to him.

This book is action packed, intense, a little dark with a side of steam, and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering "What is it that Poseidon is searching for?" and the ending? Good lord does Amelia Wilde know how to write a cliffhanger!!! Didn't see that twist coming!!!

I have to say that even reading and loving Hades and Zeus (the King Of Shadows & the Richer Than God series) could not fully prepare me for Poseidon. Let me just say that this pirate looted my heart, had me all feeling swoony and hot and bothered. The storyline is lush and enticing. The well crafted and brilliantly developed world lures you in like a Sirens song and before you know it you are in so deep you don't ever want to escape and you will in fact be extremely annoyed when your real life intrudes. Ashley & Poseidon are complex and compelling characters that are forced to evolve along the way. That pull, that sizzle, that spark is right there lurking and simmering from their first interaction until that gasp inducing cliffhanger that will have you wailing, aching and so desperate for more. I need the next book like yesterday!!! This is my unsolicited objective review.
