“Four offerings claimed. Two left. One, I can easily get. Ceras’lain. The other, Elespen. I don’t know much about that place. Only what I saw from the ship while I escaped from Sunteri. A jungle on either side of a wide river. A city I was forbidden to enter. Forbidden, even though I didn’t even realize it at the time…” -Tib, Dreamstalker, escaped slave

“They know our victory is nearing. They know we’re the Champions of Light. They’d rather keep us here, trapped in their lair, distracted from our quest to restore Brindelier and claim the Wellsprings.” -Flitt, fairy companion to Sir Azi Hammerfel

A vindictive Sorcerer King with a century-old grudge has spent decades gathering an army obsessed with claiming what their master feels he’s owed. Threatened by his dark dealings and sinister followers, will the Champions of Light succeed in claiming Brindelier’s Wellspring for the Dawn, or will its vast power fall forever into the hands of the unforgiving Dusk?

Make the choice: Dawn, or Dusk, and ally yourself with dragons, fairies, mages, knights, and muses in the epic conclusion to the Keepers of the Wellsprings series.

The final installment of The Keepers of the Wellsprings is out!

Since I had read all the previous books in the series, Ms. Sheldrake asked me if I would beta this last installment, as if I would say no to the chance of being able to read it before anyone else could. Of course, I accepted. The hardest part was to have to wait for the author to send me new chapters. What a torture! As always, I am reviewing this book on my own choice.

I loved all the installments. I'd be hard pressed to chose my favorite; however, since Call of Elespen actually finalizes everything, I might be tempted to go for this one. Not that I am happy that the series has ended but rather now that I know how the characters I have gotten to know and love (and call friends) have beaten the bad guys, I can breathe again.
I may have given some kind of spoilers here, although I doubt any one could have doubt the outcome.

I loved how all is so well wrapped up. We get the struggles, the fights, the outcome, and even a little something for the readers to think over once the last page is turned. It's easy to relate to the characters and maybe imagined that they are our friends in some alternate universe. For those who have read the previous books, you'll be happy to know that your favorite characters are back: Azi, Rian, Flitt, Tib, Celli, the guild members and so much more.

Ms. Sheldrake continued in the same manner as the other books. Each chapter is presented from one of the characters' POV and to avoid any confusion the name is mentioned at the beginning of each new one. The cleanness of the writing also makes it a great read for the whole family. Highly recommended.

A decent wrap up to the series. I absolutely loved the first book, but I did feel like there was a downhill trend after that.

I actually stopped reading after book 3 and it took me 5 years to come back and continue. I enjoyed Azi and Rian so much book 1. Their part of this series is following a mature couple who go from 16 to 19.

While I warmed up a little to Tib at one point, I found that in general I didn't care for him as a character or the people attached to him. It's difficult to have one of the primary pov characters be a 12 year old. And though he is 15 by the end of the series he was still pretty meh for me.

The way both the young girls were all calf-eyed over him. How he wasn't straight with Saesa. How he's all puppy love over Margy. There was just an element of childishness and immaturity that Tib and his crew brought that didn't mesh with Azi and Rian's story. While I had to read Tib's pov scenes to have it all make sense, I didn't enjoy them much. In fact I skimmed Tib's final pov as I didn't much care for how all of those people landed.

It's also kind of hard to keep track of antagonists. Not that you don't know who is bad, but rather who is the big bad? It felt like each book had a different villain that was in the spotlight. In the end it was like is it Diovicus? Or is it Vorhadeniel? One is the evil sorcerer king, but the other is the muse who's supposedly pulling his strings. But then wait, it's actually the Void? Because if we get rid of the Void than the muse is not bad. Who's the void? No one is the void. It's just a not-sentient hungry empty space or something. Can you defeat that? It's hard to root for the defeat of a nothing. Which is why I imagine we had to flip through corrupted people so we actually had a face for the evil we're fighting.

Anyway, Missy is a great writer in a lot of ways. Her characters are thoroughly fleshed out. Her world-building is tight with each area being unique and adequately described. There's a nice cast of characters that are easy to keep track of because their personalities are diverse. The meat of the story is solid. There's a good plot that unfolds slowly as the series progresses. Azi and Rian's friendship to love is still one of my favorite romances.

My only real complaint is that the introduction of a 2nd main character(with Azi as the other) who is 12(adding in some similar age friends) was not the best choice imo for this series. I feel like if a book is going to be middle grade then it should be that, but if a book is targeting a YA/NA audience then it should do that. We never really forget that Tib and Margy are much younger and more immature than Azi/Rian. Their thoughts and actions are very juvenile as makes sense for that age. I'm just not interested in being in the head of someone that young.

I can't beleive the series has ended (although I know we have Mia's book and I hope for mpre) I'm sad to say goodbye to the charecters I have come to love. Call of Elespen gave me a whole heap of emotions. I loved reading about all of the muse's and how even though they all have their faults they never gave up on each other. Azi has grown so much over the last 5 books and it was wonderful to see her and Rian get there happy ending, finally. When we saw Tib's changed in Sunteri, I had tears in my eyes. So sweet! A great series, which I am sure I will read again. 💛

What an ending to Missy Sheldrake's epic Keeper of the Wellsprings series! This being the last book in the series made me sad that it ended but the story wrapped up nicely. So much adventure! There was redemption for a character. I am glad how that part played out. No matter what though I find that in this series it always came to family rather blood related or not is the most important and is what will ground you. I cannot say much more without spoilers. My feelings were all over the place in this one. The writing was fantastic. The story was amazing as always. The main and supporting characters are the best as always. You see some characters grow and three couples end up finally getting their happy ending. This fantasy series makes me want to live in their world. Missy, I am going to miss the group reads after this one. Plus, I need my own Flitt.

I loved this series. They way the Muses came to life as this tale began, though the end of the series, was magical . I’m a bit sad to see all the beloved characters stories come to an end. Tib’s journey was the most surprising to me. I will miss Flitt, Azi and Ryan. But watching them grow through the series has been so much fun. Off to find a sugar cube!
