Antipodes by T.S. Simons is YA dystopian story that isn’t your typical dystopian story. The book is richly creative and well written. TS’s passion shines through as she focuses more on the people and if the mistakes of others will be repeated when it comes to survival. As this is the first book in the series TS takes her time setting the scene and focuses on the details. Being set in Australia makes it easier to imagine the world in which she has created.

Campbell Mackintosh starts his day with a hangover, he had been out drinking with his friends to celebrate his birthday and now the sun is streaming in, he has a headache and a distinct reluctance to getting up, all he wants is some more sleep, but his mum is vacuuming right outside his bedroom door as punishment. She doesn’t want him to sleep, he probably woke her up when he thought he was being quiet, so instead of sleeping longer, he resigns himself to the fact that he has to get up and face ...more

Antipodes is a young adult dystopian novel by T.S. Simmons that will interest teenagers concerned about building a sustainable and socially richer society.
If you’re looking for a bit of an escape from our current world with the ongoing threat of COVID-19, this is not it. The apocalyptic event that drives the initial plot is based around a disease that threatens all life on Earth. But if our pandemic has got you speculating and wondering – what if the disease was spread differently? If you were i

Antipodes is the first book in the Antipodes series by T.S Simons. I really wasn’t sure of what to expect going into this book, as Ms. Simons is a new-to-me author, but the premise sounded quite intriguing, so I took the chance and dove in. This is a YA, post-apocalyptic, dystopian story; with some science fiction elements, drama, and tension- all wrapped around an underlaying commentary about pandemic/disease, society, culture, community, sustainability, inclusion, the environment, gende

I loved reading the book Antipodes by T.S. Simons. It is a story that has mystery and romance. It is set in a present-day post-Apocalyptic Australia. The book is wonderfully detailed, and I felt like I was right there with the characters. The main character is Cam. He is a character that I grew to care about with each chapter that I read. What does the future hold for Cam? Read this book to find out. I also enjoyed reading about many of the additional cha

This book is considered a Young Adult book, but I think any age will enjoy this book. I found that the attention to detail was amazing. I did not have any trouble visualizing any parts of the book. I felt that I could stand on August Island with the characters in the book. This island is off the coast of Australia. The setting of the book has the premise that they are in a post-apocalyptic Australia The characters are unique as well. Cam in the last year of his science. Then there is Freja who i ...more

Antipodes by T.S. Simons is a YA dystopian novel that is intriguing from start to finish. It is the kind of book that could appeal to anyone as it is a well written story with interesting characters. Although a dystopian novel it is the type of book that could easily be imagined as happening as it is based on values and concerns that are out in the world today.
This is the first book that I have read by this author and I liked the style of writing they have. There is an attention to detail that

I wasn’t sure what to expect exactly going in. This is a Young Adult Dystopian that is packed with mystery and romance and is set in a present - day post – Apocalyptic Australia. This isn’t my normal go to genre but im glad I picked up this wonderfully written story this author did a fantastic job with the details and the characters make you feel as if you are right there with them. This young adult book is about a post apocalyptic world. In the beginning of the book, we meet Cam and his sister who live in Australia who are discussing a pandemic affecting Europe. The pandemic is spread through water, so the discussion is about how soon it will affect Australia and the people who live there.

What I really like about this book is that it isn’t your typical dystopian story, it has more depth because the story concentrates on the characters and how they survive. You really dig

I was given an ARC copy of this book after I read Crossroads.
There is some doubling up, as the initial story is told from a different point of view.
But then the story really takes off. The initial scene setting takes quite a long time, but when I realized that this was the first book of four, maybe more (not sure), that kind of makes sense.

My takeaway message was that this wasn't your typical dystopian YA novel. It isn't a knockoff of The Hunger Games, and most of them are in some form. Antipod

This author is new to me and one that I look forward to reading more from. This particular work was a very interesting YA dystopian/apocalyptic work that was set in Australia. I appreciated the social awareness that immediately was present and felt that this story was very timely and relatable to our present day condition. I was invested into the storyline quickly and had difficulty putting it down before it was finished. I look forward to seeing how the author continues the series.

I am a child of the sixties, a conservationist, and a true believer in sustainability. I loved Antipodes by T.S. Simons. I loved the story of love, loss and guilt, (normal life) built around a world of sustainability. Saving the human race, (and we don’t know the end of that story yet), is an added bonus. The characters are all interesting and well defined. I loved the descriptions of the world that was left. In our year of Covid Fear this makes for a very timely story.

This story follows Cam as he finishes up his degree at Melbourne University and is offered a chance to create a completely sustainable community on an island near Australia. Cam falls in love with Freyja and all is well until she goes missing. He uses Antipodes to track her to Scotland and finds another sustainable community – Lewis Island. He soon realizes, this is where he belongs. Join Cam as he searches for Freyja and other communities such as theirs. Unlike other dystopian novels, this stor ...more

Thrilling. Edge of your seat. Can't put down. Holy crap! This book was so fascinating and had me chewing on my lip wondering what was going to happen next. The emotional turmoil, the grief, love, guilt, curiosity. All. Of. It. Block off a few hours and go read it. You won't regret it! ...more

Considering what is currently going on the world, this book really hit home. The values we as humans have are seriously in need of review. Our love of all that glitters will not be what matters when we reach the end and that is evident within this story. It certainly made me realise how lucky I am and how quickly things can change and it also made me long for a simpler less hectic life. Thought provoking, emotional and very well written.

I enjoyed this book. This is a young adult dystopian story that anyone would enjoy. This is a book that doesn’t normally appeal to me but I am happy that I picked it up and gave it a chance. It is written in a way that it is like two books in one. The first one is about Cam who takes on a sustainable community based on an island. It is a place that is protected from the outside and takes on modern values. The second part of this is about Will. He is faced with trying to overcome personal challen ...more

This book took me a few chapters to get into it was a slow start for me. There is a lot of escapism in this book which is needed in this time of reading. All the character are very unique. This story has a ton of depth and you can imagine yourself in this post apoplectic world.

Antipodes is one of those books that you immediately want to talk about and recommend to friends. I can honestly say this should be mandatory reading in upper secondary school.

I consider myself quite environmentally conscious, but I was left really thinking about my impact. The story follows a group of young Australians as they work together to form a new sustainable world. Just when you think you have a handle on the story there is a massive plot twist.

Antipodes is a cleverly crafted story written from the view of the main character Campbell Mackintosh, starting with his major hangover after his birthday drinking session. His Scottish born mum who moved to Australia is paying him back for waking her up as he staggered to his room in the early hours of the morning by vacuuming the hallway outside his room, over and over again. His dad is at the bush 'block' - which Campbell has loved being self-sufficient, roughing it and living with nature. As ...more

Wow where to start with this book. It was a gripping read from the first page. I couldn't put it down. Especially in the current world reading this story gets you thinking about the situation we find ourselves in today. The book is aimed at young adults but it is a very enjoyable read for anyone. The author does an amazing job of building the characters and creating the scenes  that you feel right in the middle of the story with them.

What a GREAT book! I loved this work, and can't wait to start on the others. Is there a better feeling when you finish an amazing adventure story only to discover there's more to the journey?

This dystopian post-apocalyptic novel features a group of young people tasked with potentially rebuilding the human race after a deadly virus threatens to bring the world to extinction. There are so many great characters and interesting relationships, I was totally hooked and invested in the world on their

This was written in the first person, an apocalypse type story set around a water borne virus, which makes even rain lethal. Younger adults are chosen to populate remote colonies, protected by domes. It was well written and engaging, exploring many aspects of society starting from basics, with an interesting idea for contacting other colonies.
However it was littered with numbers at the end of lines, no matter what it was read on (kindle reader or fire), the numbers ascended through the book and

Intriguing, thought-provoking and brilliant. This book had me questioning so much about how long the current world can keep existing. I really connected with the main character and was quickly emotionally vested. The setting (my backyard) was so easily visualised and the messages of survival, sustainable living and inclusion were so craftily interwoven in this dystopian sci-fi based in our own world. This book had me questioning so much, even when I wasn’t reading. There is a lot presented in th ...more

Wow! I received this book yesterday and finished it today. I thought this was a great read - I became very invested in Cam’s journey and was barracking for things to happen. I had a clear picture in my mind of what was going on and the settings of the story were descriptive. While this falls into the ‘dystopian’ fiction genre, it sits nicely next to Kyle Perry’s The Bluffs and The Survivors by Jane Harper. The character development is good and I’m itching to know what happens next! If you ever w ...more
