Easily laid out and straight to the point. With good summaries at the end.
Good one liners of advice too. E.g.: - No socialising with your baby at night times (to train him that it's sleep time) - Reduce your and his exposure to artificial lights. - Dress your baby in the same number of layers as you plus one - Skin-to-skin contact and face-to-face gazing within one to two hours of birth helps with breastfeeding. - The more responsive you are to your crying baby in the first six months, the less he will cry in the second six months. - calm, repetitive, enjoyable and uncomplicated soothing strategies. - developmental crying for no reason is a thing. From 4 weeks to 3 months. - Open and close your mouth like a fish, baby will try and copy. - Dad-lay is more vigorous, goal-directed and stimulating (apparently!) - The "I'm Hungry" "I'm tired" "Socialising" "Help me calm down" cues
Straight to the point and practical, this was a good guide for Aussie parents, especially new ones.
While the book wasn’t as popular as the ‘What to Expect’ series, it was a good alternative, tailored to Aussie standards. The tips and tricks covered were mostly aligned to the official information published on hospital/government/other authorities’ websites and brochures, and where the topic was subjective, the book did prefix its position with “Tresillian believes…”.
Great informative book with practical advice. It provided good guidance on what to expect within the first three months of bringing a newborn home.
I found this book helpful as new parents, as you hear a lot of advice from everyone but unsure what advice to follow. Where Tresillian's guide follows current medical and government standards and recommendations.
Being a first time mum I found this helpful due to it's practical advice and easily accessible resources. I like that it was up to date and Australian. Not preachy (considering it's 'tresillian recommends....') or condescending and discuses a wide variation of practices/methods.
