Well, this was disappointing. I did not enjoy Love & Law as much as I thought I would. Often times it was corny and, other times, it teetered on boring. I really struggled to finish this book because, there was nothing enjoyable about the storyline. I liked all of the couples. I thought they were paired well and everyone had great chemistry but, the overall the storyline, just wasn't that interesting. For this to have been a book about cops, there was no crime, no drama, no suspense, no murders, no nothing. I really think that was a huge mistake on the author's part. How do you write a book centered around a family that's in law enforcement and crime families and not add any kind of criminal element to the storyline?!!! Where they do that at?!!! I thought something juicy was gon' pop off with Jameson's partner but, that kind of ended before it even began. The author left us with more questions than answers with whatever he was going through. Why was Marcus trying so hard to get warrants on the Black family?!!! Did he leave to return to a crime family of his own?!!! How do you insert this single ounce of mystery then, don't give us any kind of clarity on it?!!! This book could've been so much better if there had been some type of suspense added to the storyline. With no criminal element, it was just flat out boring. Love & Law just didn't give what need to be gave. This could've been an a really awesome book but, there were so many missed opportunities by the author.

Overall good story, some more complete than others

(3.5)

Overall this was a good story and I enjoyed reading about these siblings, even if their names confused me at times lol. So many J names - this is a story that kind of bleeds into one another even when you get to a new couple. Jazzy and Jordan were my favorite couple bc you can really feel the love - I just wish they got a complete story instead of ending by a cliffhanger. Jameson and Amina were my second favorite couple. Jaslyn and Ashton were cute and got an actual complete story - Josephina and Matteo were alright but they seemed to be the only ones who recognize that “legal side” was dating the “illegal world” and actually made moves to come to that reality (not living in a fairytale) and I appreciated them for that realness.

All in all it was a good time. Thinking about re-reading Sheldon & Monroe’s story now that I have this background information of their family/family history

Four siblings. Four love stories. One explosive family web.
Love & Law surprised me in the best way. I wasn’t expecting four short, interconnected stories in one, but Asia Monique made every single one worth it.
The book follows four siblings working in law enforcement who somehow end up falling for people tied to major crime families and the tension, the chemistry, is so good.
I loved getting each character’s backstory and seeing how all their lives linked together. And if you’re a lover of HEAs, this book absolutely delivers.

Great read

This was my first Asia Monique read and I really enjoyed it. It was hard for me to put the iPad down until I was finished, but then I was left with wanting more. I read this through my kindle unlimited subscription but I will be purchasing the physical book for my bookshelf and to re-read it when I am not in the mood for something new. I will also be checking out Asia Monique Flower Sisters series I hear those are good as well.

SO GOOD!

Absolutely loved every episode in this book. I think my favorite is Jameson and Amina. Never would have guessed the twist with Josephina though. Very hard to put the book down once I started it.

A lot of characters

Sometimes I like A story when there are a good number of characters. And this time it was a good challenge. A good read.

Yasss! This was different from your usual books, but different looks good on you! I thoroughly enjoyed these stories! They were all really good, but Ashton and Jaslyn's story just did it for me. A man of few words, but when he did speak, it was insightful and factual. Jaslyn learned to not judge prematurely, as that she was so wrong about so many things. These families held so much love for each other. So much so, that they were accepting when their siblings began to find love on the other side of the law. I hope this is not the end! Would love to see Henley and Shareef's story, as well as see how things work out for Sheldon and Monroe. Excellent read! 👍👍👍

One thing that bugged me about Jameson and Amina is he’s from a cop/DA family. How does she not know who he is. Same for him, you don’t know the leaders of crime families, including their immediate
Family members with maiden names. 🤨

I like Ashton and Jaslyn from jump. All four couples were interesting in their own way.

I loved how this was four different stories yet one story. It took a min to figure out and remember who’s who bit I eventually got it down pat. Regardless I love the way this story was weaved and it was good change of pace from what I was previously reading.

Good read

I like this book it was a good read. Although I am not usually a fan of books that have people on the other side of the law, but this was refreshing. It was a big change from Asia Monique’s usual work an it was well written an entertaining. Can’t wait for you to drop another book on us. Keep up the great work.

Asia Monique recently popped up on my radar. December 2020 I looked to the book club for a suggestion for #FeatThaUnknown reading list. After stumbling across Love & Law, I decided to read it for December's selection. I had no idea how much I'd been missing out on from a writer who's from my hometown, Detroit!

Brief Synopsis: Asia Monique weaves an intricate web of families, careers, and love to create what I call four short stories wrapped together to form an intense ballooning, flowing through an emotionally charged obstacle course until the very last page! This course begins with the most reputable family in New York. A family dedicated to the right side of the Law, The Edwards family. Four siblings, all with a law enforcement career, find themselves questioning every decision they've made career wise. Family secrets are revealed and the question is how reputable is The Edwards Family, really? What's a good book without its fair share of spectacles. We soon find out how families on the wrong side of the law will forever change the trajectory of the Edwards' siblings lives when you meet The Black Crime Family, The King Crime Family, and The Harper Crime Family. I'm telling you, you are in for an amazing ride. You will experience tugs at your heart as Asia Monique delves into the harsh realities of being a police officer during a time where Black bodies are dropping by the hands of those sworn to protect us at a disproportionate rate. There are so many gems in this book, but I fear I would reveal too much of the story. Y'all know I want you to go out and grab this book!!! This is my first reading experience with Monique, but I promise ya it ain't my last. She has a very extensive book catalog, I don't even know where to start after reading Love and Law.

What spoke to my soul: Family legacy is important. Continuing a family legacy doesn't mean living a life that's not for you for the sake of the Family Legacy. Adulthood has the tendency to distract us from what is meant for us. How? We start living for others versus our callings. Attempting to uphold a path that's not meant for you causes an unsettling feeling inside of you that's inexplainable. Until, you truly acknowledge the root cause of the discontent. Don't confuse upholding a Family Legacy with living your purpose. It's ok to have a collective, a variety of components laying the groundwork of a Family Legacy. Learn where you fit in establishing your family's legacy.

The second idea that spoke to my soul involves pedestals. Be wary of placing people on pedestals, their fall from glory becomes even more devastating. Let's be honest with each other, we all fall short of the glory of God. Why is that? Imperfection of course. We as humans tend to forget this and are shook to the bones when someone we love disappoints us. I believe if we remember at some point we all will make terrible decisions, this feeling won't last as long. Notice I didn't say we wouldn't feel it. Disappointment happens, how we deal with the disappointment is what's important. Acknowledge it, address your feelings, think of how to move past it, and proceed accordingly. Mistakes are what betters us, mistakes help us get to the best versions of ourselves when we actually learn from them. Are you willing to embrace disappointments even from those we love?

The final idea that spoke to my soul is aligning your spirit with the right spirit. Often we fall in love with the concept of love. This may be what our parents, movies, or even books feeds us. In this day and age, it could be what social media feeds us. However, prior to me linking up with my husband there where times I truly believed I was in love with my soul mate. Forget the red flags I saw. I was pressed to meet goals I set. Be married by 21, 2 kids by 25. Create the family I always dreamed of. Then 30 came and I was no closer to finding what I wanted. Instead, I was blind-sided with an intense feeling I fought for a few months, wanting to hold on to comfort despite the DIScomfort that comfort gave me. In time I allowed my conscious self to listen to the spirit of my inner self. Here I am 4 years into marriage, 2 beautiful children I birthed and a bonus daughter I did not. Don't get hung up on perceived types and wants. Your spirit will guide you to what you need. Don't fight that journey.

I absolutely loved this book and desire a sequel. Rumor has it a sequel isn't coming but there is hope! Stay tuned to what's happening in the world of Asia Monique to see what that is!

As Always,
#HappyReading

Love above everything else!! ❤️🥰

I loved everything about this book!! Asia Monique never disappoints with her stories. This is a battle of Cops vs. the bad guys and what happens when love is involved. The Edwards family are all connected to the law in some kind of way but things start to change when each member finds themselves falling for members of notorious crime families. In this book we follow four relationships:

Jameson and Amina- these two was the straw that broke the camels back. Jameson was the first Edwards member to fall in love. I liked these two a lot because Jameson didn’t back down to Amina’s family. He saw Amina for who she was and that was all she wrote. Jameson is fearless and Amina has just enough crazy and sexiness for them to work.

Jaslyn and Ashton- this was my favorite couple. Ashton has this dark mysteriousness to him but he loves hard, has a passion for helping others, and when he speaks you listen. Jaslyn Edwards needed Ashton more than she knew; he opened her eyes to other possibilities and helped her to find her purpose in law again.

Jordan and Jazzy- their story was different, they fell in love and married quickly! Jordan wasn’t afraid to stand up to Jazzy’s family and even was the first to confront his own father.

Josephina and Matteo- these two were so secretive but I understood why. Matteo’s position could have hurt Josephina and he was all about protecting her, first. I thought these two overcame the most obstacles and their love was the most genuine IMO.

Sooo stinking good! ❤️😭

Amazing

Love & Law had me sitting on the edge of my chair and my bed waiting to see what was going to happen next. I so appreciated the fact that I didn’t have to wait eight to ten weeks to see what
was going to happen next ☺️.

This novel focusing on the Edwards Family ( all who have careers in law enforcement ) had just the right amount of love, sex ,mystery, and family secrets. The surprising twists in this book shows the readers that everything isn’t always as it seems. Not to mention that Love is only as complicated as you make it

I really want to say so much more about this wonderful book but if I do that I’m afraid I’ll spoil it for future readers. So I’m going to say. Take time out and fall in love with the amazing characters and the people they fall in love with be ready to gasp, chuckle , smile and swoon

As as 73 year old romantic at heart who has experienced loving a “ Bad Boy” on the line of Ashton❤️❤️❤️ Once upon a time. I want to say Thank you , Asia Monique for this amazing book. What a way to wrap up your writing year❤️
Perhaps next year will give us a closer look at Sheldon and Monroe ☺️❤️

Rating: Liked it (3 ⭐️)

Thoughts: I was truly invested in the beginning of this story. You have a cop trying to figure out where these bodies were coming from and several crime families are suspects. But along the way, the story went in another direction. It was more focused on the forbidden romances between the siblings and I went from loving the story to just liking it.

I liked it overall but was expecting more to develop on the crime side. There were many characters to keep up with and it was mentioned of who was behind the bodies but I felt like it wasn’t explored enough. I did like how the parts were broken up in sections to focus on a certain couple so that it wouldn’t be as confusing.

I listened to the audio version of the story. This was narrated by Benjamin Charles. There were times that he put a lot of emphasis on the words at the end of each sentence or statement that got little annoying. However, I still loved hearing his baritone read the story. I’ve heard him narrate before and never heard that before so I’m not sure why it sounded this way on this story.

I can't believe I left this book in my vault so long, it is unlike me. I was glad to finally get into it and I was not disappointed at all. The creative and intelligent mind of Ms. Asia Monique is exhilarating to me. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. I always love how Ms. Monique is able to take friends and make them one big family. The way she mixed a law enforcement family with not so much on the right side of the law families wasn't short of the work of a genius. I also was happy that Nova and Elijah made a cameo.

All of the couples had their individual challenges, but my 💜 went out to Jordan and Matteo the most. Jordan's ex did a number on him and Matteo's father was abusive among other horrible characteristics. I do wonder why Shareef and Henley did not get a part in this novel.

This is a magnificent read and you should download and indulge. You will be so engaged because it most definitely a page turner.

4.25/5 I really enjoyed it! So good. Four couples. Four stories in one. Only thing is, I wished there was a little more suspense within with there being conflict between the “good” and the “bad” families or in their worlds. Everything went a little too smoothly. I didn’t see one thing coming from one sibling though. Wasn’t expecting that. It was different. I kind of liked it. lol I do admit I was kind of wanting the book to be wrapped up sooner than later because things seemed like they were and there was nowhere else to go.

I actually wanted to read another story first by AM which is an off shoot of this one. It’s a standalone. L&L didn’t have to be read first but it was recommended so you’d know how the characters got to where they are in this other book I want to read.

I am happy I read LL.

Originally I went to read Craving a Thug’s Love and saw that the characters were introduced in this book. So I decided to read it.

This book is written in 3rd person and that’s not my jam. But I love Asia and I was intrigued with the storyline so I pushed through it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the Edwards family and how everything became one big family affair. The title holds true to its name Love & Law. However, I needed more of every episode. By the time I got to the end on an episode, I was like dang I want more of those 2 but then it was kind of over.

I would actually thoroughly enjoy a stand-alone book about Matteo and Josephina!

Good and evil amongst us

There is a fine line between good and evil. Enter the lives and stories of the Black and Edwards family.

I appreciate the nuances amongst the siblings and their mates. From the eldest in Jameson and the youngest Josephina. It's the little things that tie a story together. In this you have family loyalty and respect. What you think you know or believe becomes a horse of another color.

Even when you shouldn't you rooted for the combination of each forbidden couple.

Great stories

Loved the book
I loved the way the author weaved the story of each sibling that was on the side of the law and the one on the other side to come together and find not only love for each other but respect that they could live with what each one did for a living
Each story wad great and was a page turner
There was unexpected revelations and drama that you didn't expect that made the book exciting
It was a great read and I hated to see it end
But MS Asia never disappoints with her stories and I am looking forward to choosing my next read by her

Risks are meant to happen

Absolutely loved this book and the character development. In this full detailed standalone it points out that risks are meant to happen. There is way too many couples and families to pinpoint, but just know it's worth the read. The author is giving you all of blue bloods NYPD vibes and she mastered it. Love this and I'm still not sure who my favourite couple is. I vibed with Ashtons character and absolutely love Josephine and Matteo's entire secret. Very good read.

LOVED IT

This book was so good. Very well written,, great character development and storyline.. I enjoyed every part of it especially the Blue Bloods vibe of the Edward's family. Who would've thought the past of the senior matriarch's would come full circle in their children. The Good vs The Bad. But definitely in a good way. Love holds no boundaries for these characters who didn't hold back how they felt for one another despite their occupations. This was a refreshing read that I highly recommend reading. Can't wait to read about Sheldon and Monroe.

Audio via Scribd, September 19 thru 22, 2022 3/5 stars

The King, Edwards, and Mateos had a beautiful story...one side being a family of the law and the other 2 sides being family of crime was an interesting concept. I really like Jemison and Ameenah's story (maybe b/c it was the first one)...the other love stories didn't flow as well... the male narrator on this book made it distracting for me to really absorb the stories. His narration was all over the place.

I was left with this thought: if only loved in real life happened like the love in books.

Wow

I’m not usually a fan of law enforcement stories; but this was so good. The descriptions and imagery written in this storyline was so real. Each sibling’s story was perfect for them and the family connections were interwoven and handed so well. I always enjoy getting a glance at a previous character from another book. I am so happy that this writer continues to write with such passion and its definitely appreciated by this reader.

Good read

This was a really good read, I was skeptical at first because of how it started out. I thought it was gonna be an exact replica of Blue Bloods, I too use to be a fan of the show. Anyway I kept reading and it turned out to be a nice read. There was no ex’s popping up no back and forth chasing and minds not being made up, don’t get me wrong I like those too, but sometimes it can be entirely too much, so this was refreshing.

Lawless

This was my first read from this author and it won't be my last. I enjoyed the character development and storyline. I love the author's writing style and easy flowing storytelling. I do wished that she would have banged it out where the crime families made it hard for the law enforcement to choose but I enjoyed her take on black love and relationships. Ashton was my favorite. I loved his mannerisms and he train of thought. Very few errors but good read

good series

Love the stories , love the characters ! Love a book with strong women who can bring more to the table besides a “smart mouth” and love although the situations were complicated the love and connection was still built easily .

This book was about people who were in law enforcement and crime families I expected there to be a little more action , the most we got out of this whole book was the “hostage” situation at Amina gallery.

All Love, No Law

This was Freaking Amazing! I loved it all. I was so glad that while there was a bit of edge to it, it truly stayed with the romance and love connection of the couples in the book. I'm excited about seeing more from this group in future books and really hope there's an update specifically with all the characters soon.

Highly, Highly, Highly Recommend! If I could give more stars, I would because that was Phenomenal!!!!

I liked the concept and I liked the characters. It was difficult at times because there were so many storylines! I wonder why the author didn’t do each couple in a different book. They could’ve been fleshed out more and make for a more enjoyable listen. Each couple was indeed unique and had their own complications though! Maybe later on they’ll have their own book….with their complications, this could truly be possible!
