Caroline Parker knows three things to be true. First, she is going to be Boston's most sought after divorce attorney by thirty-five. Second, given how terrible her romantic track record is, falling in love isn't in the cards for her. And third, Christmas only brings her bad luck - being broken up with not once, not twice, but three times during the holidays is proof enough ...more

Every once in a while, a new author appears (seemingly) out of nowhere and I fall in love with their books. This year’s book crush is Milena McKay. Last year’s was Haley Cass. Her debut novel, Those Who Wait, blew me away, I had no idea what I was getting into when I selected it from the books to review Gaby asked me to take a look at for her website LezReviewBooks. I liked the cover, I said I’d review it for her.

That was it. Those Who Wait will always hold a special place in

This flew to my top 5 for this year. I even delayed reading the last chapter because I just didn’t want the story to end.

This is a friends-to-lovers, toaster oven, slowwww burn romance. Haley Cass does them all so well. I haven’t read ‘Those Who Wait’ so I can’t compare them, but I am now very excited to read that one as well.

Caroline is a divorce attorney who runs into her ex-nemesis’s wife, Hannah, while getting coffee one day. Hannah asks Caroline to take her divorce case and the rest is his

Hailey Cass is a damn fine writer of romance.

Haley Cass produced a very well written debut book. Whoever read that would remember how capable this writer can be in writing romances.

This book doesn't quite evoke the same level of emotion that Those Who Wait did but the author still hits the mark. This book disguises itself as a light hearted Christmas novel but it really isn't one. Its far more than that. Its a whole-year romance novel that gives you the full package.

This is a satisfying slow burn romance. A Christmas hating divorce lawyer walks into a cafe...

Haley Cass... what am I going to do with you? Everything you write is magic to me. I love your characters, I love your stories, I love the situations you create, I love how you can make me feel the characters chemistry through little touches, I love your dialogue, I love the angst you create, and I just love you, OK? OK.

Make sure to read this. And everything else by Haley Cass.

Haley Cass debut novel ‘Those who wait‘ was one of the big surprises of the 2020 lesfic year and one of my favourites too. So when this holiday novel was out, I jumped to read it and wasn’t disappointed.

Caroline Parker is a divorce lawyer who doesn’t believe in love and hates Christmas because she was dumped 3 times during the holiday season. So when gorgeous Hannah Dalton, the wife of one of her colleagues approaches her on Christmas Eve, she doesn’t think her luck will change…

Haley Cass is the reason I keep renewing my Kindle Unlimited subscription! I’ve read all three of her books now and I love them - I feel she has a unique writing style that never makes a story boring in parts or lose its pace halfway through.

Rather than give a synopsis, i’ll just jump right in with what I thought!

Big pros:
- The slow burn was so good - it just kept building and building and it was easy to remain invested to see how the relationship between Caroline and Hannah would unfold.

This is the third book I've read by this author, the third book they've published, and the third book on a list of 'my favorite books by this author'. Yet I still rated this book 5 stars.

A good portion of the beginning of the book had me thinking that I might rate this closer to 4 stars, but it was still a good book in that section, and the last half (3rd? last 3/4ths? eh, whatever) raised everything up to a five star rating.

Well, that was informative, eh?

When You Least Expect It is a delightful toaster romance. I found myself smiling regularly while reading.

Caroline Parker is a divorce attorney with a bad track record when it comes to girlfriends. Hannah Parker needs a divorce attorney to ditch Caroline's fellow lawyer and nemesis Michael. You know the setup ... what could go wrong?

The story is told only from Caroline's point of view and we're not exactly inside her head. Cass tells us what Caroline is thinking and doing and I

A discussion with myself re Haley Cass:

---After reading Those Who Wait---

Me.1: "Oh wow. This debut author is amazing! I love the way she writes. I want to add her to my list of favorite authors, but it's too soon to tell with just one book, isn't it?"

Me.2: "Uh huh. Wait for more books by her to come out. See if you'll love those too."

---After reading Forever and A Day: a Those Who Wait story---

Me.1: "She made me love a SEQUEL! Do you know how rarely that happens?!"

Me.2: "Ok. But you're already e
If you haven't read anything by Haley Cass yet, my heavens are you in for a treat. Goodness gracious, this woman can write. I am absolutely stunned by everything I have read by this author. It is just so damn good. With her second full length novel, yup you read that right, second. She has written a masterful story of friendship, angst and love.

Caroline Parker is a badass mofo divorce attorney. She is who you want on your side if you are exiting your marriage. As successful as she is in the cou

Another excellent book by Haley Cass. I binged her three books, Those Who Wait its short sequel, Forever and A Day: a Those Who Wait story and this book, When You Least Expect It. In general I don't tend to binge read books. At first I felt left out because it seemed like everyone had read Cass before I even heard of her. However, I don't feel so bad anymore when I noticed Cass published her 3 books between April-August 2020. Now we wait for her 4th book…

Sweet and heartfelt! Such a great holiday read!

Caroline Parker (34) is an attorney who is helping Hannah Dalton (32) file for divorce from her cheating, asshole husband. Throughout the divorce, Caroline gets closer to Hannah and her kid, Abbie.

I have to admit, I was initially bothered with the thought of a lawyer falling in love and starting a relationship with her client, but then Haley Cass took time to develop their friendship and the romance didn't happen right away. I was actually a bit su
I loved this! It reminded me a bit of All That Matters by Susan X Meagher in that it was about a friendship that began as part of a professional acquaintance that blossomed into more, but without the loving husband in the mix. Thank goodness for that! This was a really lovely holiday novel. Exactly what I was looking for. It delivered in a big way with a super slow burn toaster oven romance, gorgeous upstanding main characters, a completely lovable precocious and perceptive kid and a story good ...more
5+ stars (for the non audio version). This was absolutely delightful.

As Guerunche previously said, this also reminds me a bit of Susan X Meagher's All that matters with the friendship and the overall slowburn.

The whole story of Caroline and Hannah takes place over the span of a year. Top notch divorce attorney Caroline Parker meets the wife of her arch nemesis in the coffee shop Hannah works in, only to learn that Hannah wants a divorce after years of suffering. She asks Caroline to represent h

This is the second novel by Haley Cass that I’ve read. Like the first it had good writing, nice humour and lovely characters. I enjoyed it, but not as much as Those Who Wait. But this was still a full 4 stars book for me. Those Who Wait was followed by a lovely short story Forever and A Day. I would very much like a follow up to When You Least expect it too and look forward to Cass’s next book.

I don't review much anymore but couldn't help but say something about this book. Which I might add, is the best book I've read so far this year. I found myself purposefully setting this down multiple times, not because I didn't like what I was reading but because I wanted to savor it. The cadence and pace of this is pretty unique and inspired. I pretty much loved just about everything about it. If there was one word I'd use to describe the whole MS is: yearning. That pretty much sums it up :) ...more

5+ ⭐ - Audible version - I liked this even better the second time. My friends... The PINING! I feel it in my soul. The unrequited loved (but secretly it's not). UGH. Sweet, sweet torture. Lori Prince did another great job narrating. This will definitely be a yearly re-read/listen for me.

5 Stars - ugh the feels!

I love the way Haley Cass writes. This is the ultimate friends to lovers but with all the angst of falling in love with your straight best friend. I desperately wanted them
How do you do this Haley? Just how? 🤯

If it was a book written by any other author, I would have whined like a baby saying that it was too long compared to the premise of the story. But with your books, it's so different. I keep reading page after page, ignoring people, sacrifing sleep and even cutting a few hours at work just so I could finish the book.

When I was reading Those Who Wait, I had to be on the road or at work for long hours so I did what any sensibly insane person would do. I bought

Okay, I'm officially in the Haley Cass fan club. This one has that weird non first person narration in present tense that takes me a bit to get into, but once I got over it, swoon. The chemistry in this one is off the chart. Like it made me tingly and there was not even a kiss to read about! Definitely worth reading. ...more

This was my first book by Haley Cass and it won’t be my last. This is such a warm and lovely story.

Caroline is a very successful divorce attorney and hates the holidays. Nothing good ever happens after Veteran’s Day comes around. When she sees Hannah working at a coffee shop she is confused. The wife of her nemesis I working in a coffee shop on Christmas Eve, it doesn’t make sense. When Hannah writes down her number on one of the coffee cups. She didn’t mean to fall in love with Hannah at all. But here she is, curled up with a family that isn’t quite hers, and she’s never wanted anything more.

4.5 stars. Absolutely adorable, amazing, evocative, emotional, beautiful. Light-hearted but hard-hitting at the same time. I needed this kind of book so much, but I didn't actually know I needed it until I read it. It was just suuuuch a good fucking slow burn, toaster-oven romance. I have hearts in my eyes!!!! 😍😍😍

Haley Cass outdid herself again with this story. She also inserted 'and there was only one bed' trope so I'm yodelling from my bedroom window thanks to that

No, but her debut book was Those Who Wait and that was one of the best debut and best romance book I've ever read. And now, When You Least Expect It was just as splendid as the first book! It wasn't as romance-centered as her debut book, but When You Least Expect It still gives me that gasping moment just as much. I believe that whenever

This was the love story I needed this Christmas, and it’s 100% my new favourite Christmas read. Haley Cass has been a dark horse in 2020. Her books are so heartfelt and swoony that romance lovers everywhere should be reading her books.

Caroline is an excellent character to read, and as the whole story is from her point of view, you really get to embrace her feelings for Hannah, but also how much fun she is with her internal thoughts. She’s also kind, warm, and thoughtful in one hundred different

I was in the minority of ppl who didn't like this author's first book, I admit. But the summery for this one sparked my curiosity and I don't like to give up on authors based on one book so I said why not and bought "when you least expect it". And oh boy do I have no regrets whatsoever. It was such a cute story with amazing characters and, what I loved the most about it, there wasn't any overblown drama that so many romance books rely on to create a conflict late in the book.
