The memoir by Lawrence Birnbaum is a beautiful, emotional work of literature. His incredible rise from a humble upbringing to success as a cosmetic surgeon is what really captured my heart, but it was also his love story with Candus. He penned some absolutely enthralling poetry to woo her. I had a hard time putting this book down, and I came away with a newfound faith in the healing power of love.

The author's candor and openness in discussing his desire for Candus despite the fact that she was already married is both heartbreaking and motivating. The poetry he wrote in her honor served as windows into his soul.
