I almost don't want to shelve it as yaoi because it doesn't have any cliche from yaoi manga... from romance yes (misunderstandings, meeting the love one near a love hotel with a possible lover, staying in the same apartment due to heavy rain/blocked road, etc) but nothing yaoi-like. Their first almost kiss, which happens bc Arima, being invited to Kitaoji's place, thought they were going to "do" it, which was plausible, but when he leans to kiss him, Kitaoiji pushes him and nothing happens. And Arima, the gay one and in loved with Kitaoji, is never pushy nor suggestive... they become friends and only because of Arima's sister is that Kitaoji realizes Arima is indeed in love with him. And if Kitaoji wasn't so curious about Arima's feelings, they were going to remain friends, but alas, it was too much for poor Arima.
I even love that when Kitaoji suggests to "try it", Arime doesn't agree because, what if it doesn't work? In that sense it felt very realistic and almost like a mm romance instead of a yaoi.

[21/01/2022] OKAY Y'ALL THIS IS A MASTERPIECE! 👏 I'M TELLING YOU TO READ IT! IT'S THAT GOOD! I love the how it included real life struggles like "Having to hide your interests" or the troubles people who come out go through like: the fear of rejection or the ideals / high standards of society, etc. I felt so happy and excited and giddy while reading AAAHHH ! I can't wait to read the sequel, 君に恋するはずがない―トキメキ篇― ! I read the summary and oof I'm not ready, I feel there's trouble 😓😭 I loved Kitaoji and Amira ! I will definitely reread ! And I want to see more them ! And Amira's sister is a ream mvp, I love her ! Also the art MUAH *chef kiss* PLEASE BOTH KITAOJI AND AMIRA ARE SO FINE 😩
I read this 2 years and a half years ago and after finally remembering, I came to read volume 2 !!! DAMN it was SO GOOD. I really like how they can communicate really well. And that their issues don't pan out really long. Ooh someone said there's a third volume AAAHHH I CAN'T WAIT !!!
The misunderstanding in the beginning was so hilarious omg xD It was also quite understandable how it came to be and didn't feel forced. It was a really sweet and fun read <3
For the most part, this manga was okay, a solid 2-star. But the ending was really, really bad: .
The MC doesn't grow as a person, they just .
It was quite disheartening to have the MC .
I saw volume 2 was out and foolishly reread this and was equally disappointed.
But anyway, looking at the cover, this looks like volume 2 (unless I'm wrong and it was just 2 parts of a single volume). I don't see volume 1 posted here, so I'll just include my volume 2 review here:
It has a nice brisk pace and I liked that it had more of established romance conflicts, which usually feels fresh to me. In parts, it seemed more mature, but some of the major conflicts were true teenage nonsense. Actually, I felt like the real story starts much later in the volume, making the start drag and feel aimless.
Kitaoji was a huge fan of shoujo manga. He got afraid sharing his interest after he was dumped by his girlfriend who thought it was a bit too much.
At the office gathering, Kitaoji had a conversation with Arima, and found the guy interesting, especially when Arima resembled the hero in a shoujo manga he was currently a fan of.
When Kitaoji found out that Arima shared the same interest, he invited Arima over to his house only to find out that Arima was gay.
Not wanting to lose Arima as a friend, Kitaoji confessed about his interest and that he was okay with Arima's sexual preferences.
I did not find anything annoying nor offensive about it. It's a light read and I never give it more thought. But, everyone is entitle for their opinion.
It felt like I'm reading a shoujo manga if I ignore the smut part and that Arima is a male.
