This is a sequel to ‘And Then She Vanished,’ in which Joe, an ordinary man discovers that he can not only time travel but can also go back in time to prevent his seven year old sister, Amy, from mysteriously disappearing. Now Joe is back in the present, but it’s a very different present to the one he knew before he saved Amy. Not only is Amy present and grown up but his parents are both alive and well (unlike in his previous world). The Joe he has now replaced (who he refers to as ‘Other Joe’) w ...more

I didn't realise that this was the second book in this series but have to say the author did a fabulous job of recapping and bringing the reader up to speed. I was immediately aware that Joe had previously travelled back in time to 'save' his sister Amy. That act has brought consequences though as not only are people who in his previous timeline were deceased or ill but Joe himself had a life that took an unexpected course. The Joe we follow is completely different to the one he refers to as " o ...more

Joseph Bridgeman thought he had figured out how to change the world, his world, back to how he thought it should be, and then he could live his happily-ever-after. If only. Readers of fairy tales, horror movies and fans of any type of science fiction know that nothing ever works out in the ‘happily ever after’ scheme, nor do we want it to; where is the fun in that? THE SHADOWS OF LONDON is the second in a series that author Nick Jones has created with our time traveling hero, Joseph Bridgeman. O ...more

The second installment in the Joseph Bridgeman series is a great read and worthy successor to the first. Not quite as much character development, particularly of some key individuals that I’d hoped to get to know better from the first book, but still a good read that took the series in some interesting and even unexpected directions. I do have two quibbles with the book that I’ll mention below but the author explains his reasoning for one of the two in the Author’s Note at the end so I give him ...more

I read the first book in this series during lockdown and really enjoyed the mixture of family drama, love and Sci-fi Time Travel in “And Then She Vanished” so much so that I thought I'd follow the author to see what else he'd written and what he was working on. I was delighted when out of the blue I was contacted by the author and offered the chance to read an advance copy of "The Shadows of London" in return for an honest review.

In “The Shadows of London” the story picks up from where the prev

Before I get into the review, I have to say thank you to both NetGalley and the Publishers over at Blackstone Publishing for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review. This is book two in the Joseph Bridgeman series about an antique’s dealer who discovers he’s a time traveler when he goes back in time to save his sister from going missing as a child. Book number two pretty much picks up where the last one left off and the world is expanded on. The Shadows of London comes out on June 1st ...more

I was sent an advance download of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review, so here goes.

Before I begin my review, I have some advice. If you have happened upon the author, Nick Jones, and the character of Joseph Bridgeman for the first time with this book, put it to one side and seek out the previous volume, ‘And Then She Vanished’. Although ‘The Shadows of London’ storyline includes a brief synopsis of that tale, you will get so much more from it if you read the earlier work fi

Back in 2018, Nick Jones invited me to join his Reader Group and, 3 years on, I’m glad I did despite little involvement. In March, Nick suggested I join a zoom call (arranged by his publisher Blackstone) and afterwards, he asked whether I’d like to review this book. I was surprised, as I hadn’t even read the first of the series, but I was happy to do so and he gave me a link to the Kindle version in exchange for an honest review. The brief recap at the beginning was especially useful: a bit of p ...more

I always approach a 'next book in the series', with the same sense of trepidation I get when watching the sequel to a film that I've loved! Is this 2nd Joseph Bridgeman adventure going to be a 'Rocky', or a 'John Wick'... thankfully it's a 'Rocky'! All the characters from the 1st book are back, but here's the clever bit... none of them, with exception of Joseph and his (now grown up) sister remember what went on in the 1st book because the act of changing the past to save his sister, quite natur ...more

If you enjoy the time travel genre I think you will enjoy this book. I was delighted with this second book in The Joseph Bridgeman series. I thought it was even better than the first book in this series. The first book ("And Then She Vanished") was a bit slower and Joseph was more melancholic (appropriate for the story). "The Shadows of London" begins right where the first book left off and quickly picks up the pace as Joseph learns that he will be traveling in time again - whether or not he wan ...more

The Shadows of London is the second book by Nick Jones about Time Traveller Joseph Bridgeman. While it has enough flashback information within its covers to be read as a stand alone, it follows neatly on from ‘And Then She Vanished’ picking up the story and opening up a whole new tangent of time travel. The plot is a truly intense and fascinating exploration of what happens to your present when an aspect of the past is changed. The characters are beautifully written and the relationships between ...more

The Shadows of London by Nick Jones

Thank you @netgalley and @blackstonepublishing for this ARC (Advanced Readers Copy) that publishes today, June 1st!

The Shadows of London is a quirky time traveling mystery about an antiques dealer, Joseph Bridgeman. This book is a sequel that piggy backs off of Joseph’s recent return to modern day after he’s saved his sister’s life and rewrote his own history. This time, Joseph is blackmailed into time traveling again and is sent to 1960’s London where he

I received an advanced copy of this in exchange for an honest review - Just wow I thought book one was great, but this second book was fantastic it follows on from the first book of ‘And Then She Vanished’ where Joseph saved his sister Amy through his discovery that he could time travel, he then wanted to settle down to an easy life and leave time travelling far behind him, however he’s then blackmailed into time travelling again, this time back to the swinging sixties. I received an advanced copy of Shadows of London in return for an honest review. How would I rate it ? Five stars is the maximum I can give, I would really love to give it seven. If your a fan of the time travel genre you will not want to miss this series. The story starts with book one. And then she vanished. The series evolves around Joseph Bridgeman a 30 ish antiques dealer that discovers he can go back in time to a traumatic event that sealed the fate of his 7 year old sister, and ruined his ...more

I'm a sucker for time travel stories and was instantly hooked on book 1 of this series (go check it out if you've not already). This one picks up in the immediate aftermath of that story and covers something we don't really see much of in this genre; changing time and "overwriting" yourself. We all see/hear about the old return from the past and everything changes, but nobody stops and says "Hey Marty, how come you've suddenly had a complete personality transplant?"

So, Joe's bounced back to a pr

This is book 2 and I'd definitely recommend reading book 1 first. It'll give you perspective on Joe's life that is really necessary (in my opinion) to thoroughly enjoy book 2.

Our friend Joe has saved Amy and changed his life. He swears he's done with time travel, but it seems he has more to do, because it's not done with him.
I can't say enough good things about this book! I was so excited to hear there was another Joe Bridgeman story and Nick Jones doesn't disappoint! He is a paragon of the twis

I was excited to read another story of Joe and the trouble he gets into regarding time travel. This was an even more exciting book than the first one. I really enjoyed it and hope to read another book in this series soon!

The Shadows of London is the second book in The Joseph Bridgeman series.

I voluntarily received and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

I received an advanced copy of this in exchange for an honest review - It follows on from the first book of ‘And Then She Vanished’ where Joe saved his sister Amy, and although it isn’t essential to read book 1 it would certainly add to your enjoyment if you did. Joe just wants to settle down and get to grips with his life, leaving time travelling behind, (he is missing the last 20 years as when he rescued Amy she was a small girl, but is now grown up as it took Joe so long to find his talent fo ...more

I absolutely love And Then She Vanished. And The Shadows of London does not disappoint. This second book takes up shortly after Joe comes back from trying to rescue his little sister. But things are not the way he remembered them. Some things are better, and some things are not. And as he tries to figure out how to navigate all those changes, he has to try to get a grip on his abilities.

Poor Joe is blackmailed by a cunning time traveler like him and has to save an innocent woman from the 1960s

If you thought all loose ends were tied up at the end of the first novel, then think again. This book starts almost immediately after the end of its predecessor 'And Then She Vanished'. Having been successful in saving his sister, Joseph finds he can't leave time travel behind, no matter how much he would like to. His whole world has changed, not always for the better. This is part 'time travel' novel, part thriller but also light-hearted and the protagonist likeable - Not an easy job to do in o ...more

Thank you to the author and publisher for the advance copy, this was very much appreciated!
I honestly couldn’t put this book down!
The second in what I hope turns out to be a long series, it’s every bit as engaging and well written as the first! The characters are well rounded and very human. The tale, time travel at its finest, is wonderfully spun. I don’t want to give the plot away and spoil the book so I will just say, if you enjoyed And Then She Vanished by Nick Jones, you will enjoy this in,

The Shadows of London by Nick Jones is an engrossing romp through time with Joseph Bridgeman. This is the second book in a series that I hope continues for many more adventures. Joseph is a somewhat reluctant time traveler who sometimes adjusts the past for a better future (at least for some.)

When given an advanced copy of this book to read from the author I was really pleased and knew I'd be in for a treat. The book was as usual from this series hard to put down.

The book had a few different stories related to the main character along with the main one which took place in the 1960s.

My favorite part was when him and his friend Rode a motorbike chasing after an essential possession of the main character.

There was also comedy in places during the story.

This is a stand-alone novel but I did reread the 1st novel (The Vanishing Lady) before reading The Shadows of London. STILL really liked the 1st one and THIS one did not disappoint. The character development keeps everything interesting as we are taken on a trip through time. Joe has to deal with experiencing a return to his life that is totally changed due to changes he made in past time travel. A peek into how his life developed for "Other Joe" in sharp contrast to how his life developed with ...more

Layers of intrigue and clever dialog had me in turns laughing out loud and holding my breath in anticipation of what would happen next.
There are several twists I did not see coming which always make for an interesting read. The trips to 1960’s London were lots of fun as was the faithful sidekick, Vinny. I also appreciate that there was not a lot of foul language.
The time travel aspect of the story is excellent, I love the twistiness of it all. While the story ends well, it also alludes to futur

"... the easy stuff doesn’t shape who we are. It’s the hard stuff, the stuff that smashes us into a million pieces, that forces us to dig deep to put ourselves back together."

What an incredible ride. Nick Jones has outdone himself in this follow up to the first book. Joseph Bridgeman finds himself time travelling once again, but this time it is against his will. There is much that he doesn't understand, only that he is involved in something far beyond his control.

The writing is brilliant, the

After being given an advance copy of 'The Shadows of London' in exchange for an honest review, here I am to fulfill my promise. Firstly I'd like to thank Nick for taking me back to the 60s. (I was there once, a long time ago) Having read book one I couldn't wait to get into book two which I did with gusto.
