In the world of Kennedy, Illinois, non-competitive soapbox derbies, Gideon Chase’s son, Matthew, is a legend. He’s won two years in a row and, not for nothing, Gideon’s sure he’ll win this year, too. That is, until the Perrys move to Kennedy.

Matthew and Andy Perry hate each other… so, because they’re good dads, Gideon and Riley Perry hate each other too. Matthew’s already lost his mother; Gideon’s not about to let him experience the disappointment of breaking his winning streak. He’ll throw hands with anyone’s dad, even if he does try and tell Matty to be nice.

But Riley’s divorce is fresh, and he’s not about to let his son lose the tournament and the household he grew up in all in one summer. He might not be a competitive person, but Andy is — so he’ll learn. Even if he does think Gideon Chase is sort of fascinating and handsome… in a villainous, enemies-first-and-last sort of way.

But when a misunderstanding places the two of them in the middle of a relationship that is as fake as it is plausible, Gideon and Riley realize there might just be more to each other than they first thought.

Sweet, adorable and entertaining.
A short read to pass the time.
In honor of the truth, I would have liked it to be longer because the protagonists, the story and the setting could have been elaborated in greater depth.

Solid 3.5 ⭐️ read this was a cute story about a newly separated dad. Finding love and new home for his son😉🧨🛡. It was cute and I love that they allowed the son to compete in a competition. I love little boys and sports ⚾️🏈⚽️🏀🏈🥎.

Such a sweet read! I just wish it had been longer - it deserved more depth, with richer details and more developed characters. It’s a shame that when we finally get a beautiful love story with a healthy relationship in the centre, it’s over before we even have the chance to fully immerse ourselves in it.

This is my thrid book by Imogen Markwell-Tweed and so far my favourite. I'm a sucker for small town dads romance. So, I loved the set up and all of the characters feel quite real. But the endig was quite rushed, like in most of her books.

A quick audiobook I listened to while at work. I loved the aspect of single dads just trying to do best by their kids and finding love together. Super sweet, and had a fake dating and hate to love plot that I always enjoy.
