This particular "There Was an Old Lady" had a theme that was more interesting than some of the others. Sure, she's still swallowing a bunch of different) random things for a variety of reasons, but the overall string of things she ate were more cohesive as a whole. It added to the story and it didn't feel as weird and random as other versions of this series.

Overall, I enjoyed this one more than when she swallowed a bat, and I can see little ones enjoying this one for the days leading up to Halloween too. It's definitely worth a read if you enjoy the original story from when she swallowed a fly.

Got it for a Halloween hang with my niblings, because I remembered the OG “There was an Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly” from my childhood. It was good, the kids liked it, but I thought the refrain was low key pretty whack/lazy. Like did you only have 10 minutes allotted for writing the phrase that was going to be repeated almost every other page?

Another silly book about an old lady who keeps eating all kinds of bizarre things. This one has a Halloween theme. It is just as silly and rhymes just as much as all the other ones. Kids will most likely enjoy this one, too. Recommended for Grades K-3
