Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I fell in love with Ava Ryan with her Fairy Tale Billionaires. There is something I love about her romances. For one, they are contained to a shorter specific time, the heroes are a bit broken while her heroines are mostly self-sufficient, independent, and the impetus for the heroes to look inward and embrace love. In that series, the billionaires have stalwart, very masculine outer appearances, and it takes the heroines to help them expose their soft underbellies. I loved each of their stories because the chances of the Brothers Black readily falling in love is questionable, yet Ava Ryan carefully crafts journeys for them that poke at their emotional vulnerabilities. Their journeys pull you through her books.

With Ryan’s newest book, His Lost Love, the same qualities that I love exist: this is written during a fixed period of time even though the hero, Liam, and heroine, Mia, have history, serious history; the journey forward is fraught with trials and tribulations, yet the story ends in a sweet happy ending; and Ryan’s writing is once again seamless in its expression of Liam and Mia’s journey.

What feels different from the Fairy Tale Billionaires series is the heroes. Like the Black brothers, the outer appearance of Liam is masculine. However, Liam has a vulnerability that he readily shows. There are times when he does protect that vulnerability, but he is more apt to show his emotions, more than Mia, her heroine. As Mia’s brother and Liam’s best friend, Michael, plays a small part in their story, we also see that same emotional availability in his character. This feels very different from Ryan’s first series, and I found myself shocked at various moments in his and Mia’s story when he expresses his emotions. I’m not talking about anger (although there is some of that in the story) rather he readily shows tears, pain, and love in his eyes throughout the story. It doesn’t make Liam any less masculine either. Ryan doesn’t fall into the trap that female romance writers fall into when they emasculate their heroes unintentionally. Everything that makes Liam masculine exists even when he’s showing his heart. It made him my favorite character, to be honest. I read a review from someone who said she thought he read as stalkerish. That is definitely not the case. These two happen to show up in the same places because they have mutual friends and acquaintances. If there is any criticism of Liam, it is his waffling between using Mia to get over her and his undying love for her. It’s obvious that they are fated for each other. That he continuously moves between those perspectives makes his story frustrating at times.

My least favorite character in His Lost Love is Mia. I love independent, ambitious heroines. They are my favorite to read in romance. Yet, Ryan crafts Mia with invulnerability that circumvents her attraction to Liam. To be blunt: Mia annoyed me. Her words and actions don’t match, and I think Ryan took this too far in the story. We find out the reasons for her constructed walls against Liam around the 60ish percent range in the story, and you realize quickly that Mia is an active participant in her break up. From there, Mia holds tight to this forcefield. Again and again, she makes choices that make you want to scream at her. Ryan does explain it at some point, but the constant contention between the two of them causes the story to slow at points. I found my mind drifting from their story.

I do think His Lost Love is a strong foundational story for this next series, the Manhattan Billionaires. By the end of this story, you will be ready for the next book that I believe might focus on Mia’s brother, Michael. And this reader is ready for it.

His Lost Love is a story of second chances, of letting go of the hurts of the past to find your happy ending. Ava Ryan clearly and deftly expresses that message through the journey of Liam and Mia. If you like contentious (I wouldn’t call it enemies-to-lovers because they aren’t really enemies) stories about moving beyond the past, shaded by a spicy physicality between a hero and heroine, then you should read Ava Ryan’s newest book.

His Lost Love is about Mia and Liam, they had both dated each other 12 years prior and had hurt each other pretty bad. Now they are both successful in their careers, but missing something in their lives, and Liam is back in New York; crashing his best friends and Mias twins house warming part.

a bit of spoilers below...

Okay, so I feel like I have more problems with this book than I care to admit. Liam comes off as very stalkerish during this book, and is very much a jerk telling Mia that she will sleep with him and will go to his room and gets all sad that she doesn't show up calling it a rejection. They also end up doing the deed with each other after not seeing each other for 12 years within about an hour or so. We find out what each of them had done to hurt the other person and; after finding out what had happened, Mia had just gone though a ton of trauma and Liam took her needing time as a rejection and cheated the same time she lost a baby? and Then 12 years later tries to make it seem like its her fault? Then when it comes to talking about everything Mia is the one that has to go to him. Liam also ruins her birthday, mad that she wants to get to know him and make sure she can trust him starting a relationship again after the last time he cheated on her after she lost a baby. yes its been years but he still did it. Then her brother finds her and yells at her for having these feelings, and she's the one stuck apologizing? There is a lot more that I did not like about this book, but that was the icing on the cake really. I am sorry to say that I did not like this book, and even the blurb of the book was not really about what the book was about.

US / WW

When Mia sees her first and only love at her brother's housewarming party, let's just say she's less than thrilled, both with her brother for inviting Liam, and with the situation in general. After Liam tore her heart out by cheating on her, she thought she had moved on and gotten over him. But with him so intent on being in her space for some reason, the chemistry they've always had overwhelms her and the one thing that shouldn't happen, does. Oh well, she can just use him for sex, right? Wrong...

Liam knew Mia would be at Michael's housewarming, that's why he's crashed even though Michael didn't actually invite him. He has to get into Mia's space again and try to get her out of his mind, the place she's never left since they ended so disastrously over a decade ago. Will she welcome his persistent doggedness, or shut him down?

I wanted to love this story because normally second chances are my jam, unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. I guess the reason why is because I didn't like Liam. He practically stalked Mia, even though she told him to leave her alone more than once. In this day and age, behavior like this is even more concerning. And his anger at her, conveniently sidestepping his own part in their breakup, sets off more than one red flag in my mind. I have my doubts that a cheater will ever be anything but a cheater, and his stalkerish behavior combine with that into making a very unlikable character in my eyes. I did like Mia, though, and she saves this from a lower rating.

Excellent second-chance romance
5 stars

His Lost Love is the first book in a new series of standalones called the Manhattan Billionaires. It stands completely alone, however fans of Ms Ryan will remember that Liam is the formerly estranged brother of Ella, the heroine of The Billionaire's Cinderella. All three brothers and their partners also make cameos in this story, with Ryker and Ella’s part being biggest as it’s their wedding Liam and Mia are attending in this story.

Liam and Mia broke up over 10 years ago and were each other’s first loves, giving this story a delicious second-chance vibe. There’s also a touch of the enemies-to-lovers trope going on, too, as despite their obvious connection, there is a lot of anger, distrust and borderline hatred between our couple at the start of the book.

Both Mia and Liam are interesting, likeable characters. Mia is a successful woman and while she has confidence and sass, we also learn about her fears and how she doesn’t feel her life is complete. Her push and pull with Liam is understandable and I especially loved how she stood up for herself 100% with him.

Liam is potentially a marmite kind of character - you’ll either love him or hate him. He’s described as a bad boy but when we meet him I feel that he’s definitely settled down into a strong and stable man. He’s definitely arrogant but there are many an occasion where his emotions overcome him. I do enjoy a male character who comes across as strong and somewhat alpha, but conveys emotion well.

The reason for the love/hate is due to something that happened when Liam and Mia were first together/splitting up. Regardless, Liam redeemed himself in my eyes (and in Mia’s) and that’s all that matters!

The story was sweet and I really felt the pair were working through their issues. The love was clear from the first - even when the pair were still at odds/ pretending it was only physical. Great chemistry - sexually and otherwise. When they had their big, blowout talk - it was pretty uncomfortable, sure, but it never got to the level of being too angsty or gut wrenching.

I’ve really enjoyed Ava Ryan’s writing and her storytelling - and this is no exception. I did waver between 4 and 5 stars on this one but it was very readable and before I knew it, I’d come to the end. And I admit that a lack of epilogue at the end might have pushed me more towards 4 stars. I NEED an epilogue, people! Luckily, we got a quick teaser about hopefully the next book in the series featuring Michael, Mia’s twin brother. In that story, I’m expecting a follow-up on how Mia and Liam are doing or I might revolt!

If you’re looking for a believable and romantic second-chance romance story with billionaires, banter and meddling friends and family - then I would recommend this book to you. 5 stars from me.

So this book was fine. It wasn't bad, it wasn't good, I definitely rounded up, and I'm still unclear on what the purpose of it all was, but I mean, I didn't hate it. I'm unclear on whether or not they hated each other? I mean, it started out strong, and I definitely got that vibe, but the hero switched REAL quick from hate and revenge to "oh my god I need to keep her forever" which was kind of abrupt, and the heroine was definitely jaded, but like just a smidge too stubborn? I don't know. I didn't buy what they were selling, and that made it hard to really get into this one.

Also the writing style was a bit much for me. The comparisons and the repetitive nature of the story made it hard to get through at times, and I found myself stopping and saying "we just read this two chapters ago" so I think it could have been edited a bit better. Also, it’s never a good idea to compare a woman’s hoo ha to “fresh oysters.” I don’t care if they smell like the ocean, the visual ain’t great.

The more I type, the more I realize I didn't quite like this book, but for some reason I felt compelled to finish, so I stand by my decision to round up. There were some funny bits, and the steam (when not worded bizarrely) was definitely on point, so there were plenty of upsides, but not enough for this to be a book I'm going to recommend frequently.

Long story short, it was fine. It'll honestly only be memorable to me because of that stupid oyster comparison.

Although it’s been more than a decade since Liam has seen the only woman he has ever loved he is determined to use his best friend’s, who also happens to be her brother, housewarming party for their reunion. He believes that if they spend one night together then they can both move forward with their lives, but he is about to find out that one night is not enough.

Mia is cautious when Liam comes back into her life as their relationship did not end well. Meeting him at her brother’s housewarming was complicated enough but finding out they will be attending the same wedding is sure to take the complications to a different level. Will they be able to work through the misunderstandings of the past and have a second chance or are they destined for heartbreak once again?

Liam is steadfast in his determination to win Mia’s heart as he knows that they are meant to be together and he isn’t about to let anyone or anything stand in their way.

This NEW spin off series was FABULOUS !! Getting lost in second chance LOVE and seeing new and old characters had you wanting more and not wanting it to end ! What an ending it was !!

Liam and Mia had a steamy start and ended in flames !! When a LOVE like theirs doesn’t fizzle after 12 years you have to believe that they can and will make it work. But we all know when something tragic happens in a relationship sometimes anger and hurt can overshadow love ..

When Mia is asked to make Ella one of a kind wedding dress she never ever though in a million years it was Liam’s sister and was he really even back in NYC ?? So when there two paths do cross the sparks fly but are they daggers or fireworks ?! The way there bodies react together I hope it wasn’t daggers ?? There banter back in forth with make you scream !

Loved these too and can’t wait for more !! Hope to see more Princess’s !M

"I love a second chance romance, Liam and Mia have a past, not necessarily a good one, but a past none the less, and can these two put that behind them to find their HEA?
Their story is so raw and emotional, Liam is more vulnerable than he lets on at first, but as their evolves we get to see his softer side. Mia, isn’t quite sure if she can trust him after the hurt from a decade ago. They have a chemistry that undeniable, even though they tried to fight it, they both knew it was just a matter of time they would be each other’s forever.

Follow these two on their journey of self-discovery of a life they are both worthy of together. Keep a couple tissues handy, you’re going to need them

Liam and Mila have a past. A very hurtful past. Fast forward , Liam finds out Mila will be at his friends wedding and Liam is determined to get her back. When I say determined I mean , no matter what happens, he is going to get her back. Hurtful memories and anger and they have a hard time pushing past this. I love Liam and his devotion to getting Mila back and not letting her doubt get in the way.
Mila is so torn, so hurt by the past that she can't get over it and face her real emotions.
Highly recommend this one!

Ava Ryan has quickly become a favorite author of mine over the past few months, and I loved this second-chance story! Neither Liam nor Mila were blameless in their messy first breakup, but now they've maybe learned from their mistakes! I loved seeing other couples I love in here as well. Overall, just a really good book!

Met Liam when I read Ryder and Ella's book. Thought he was a cold-fish, but people change. Circumstances ans feelings change people.

This is a an amalgam of tropes—second chance romance, brother's best-friend, enemies to lovers, friends to lovers.

Liam and Mia started when they were young and traveling to Europe. Sometimes timing plays a great part in uniting soulmates.

Ava Ryan is my new favorite discovery this year! Love her and the books I've read from her. Looking forward to reading from her more.

His Lost Love by Ava Ryan is the first book in the Manhattan Billionaires Series and also happens to be the first book that I've read by this author. This is a contemporary romance where second chances and lost lovers reunite.
In this story, Liam and Mia were once college sweethearts who dated for two years before their relationship came to an abrupt end. He went off to become a successful doctor and entrepreneur while she became a designer.
Twelve years pass and they're finally in the same city, within the same vicinity of each other. Their first encounter after a decade sees Liam gatecrashing his best friend's house-warming party, the same best friend who also happens to be Mia's twin brother. Seeing each other after such a long absence has them both feeling a wave of emotions and the evening doesn't exactly go as planned. Their next encounter is when Ava learns that the wedding dress she designed is actually for Liam's half sister, which means they'll be around each other for a weekend of wedding festivities.
As much as Ava wants to avoid Liam, his constant pursuit of her is starting to wear her down. He still loves her and as much as he wants her back, he needs answers. Answers as to why their relationship ended. When he finally gets her alone they end up having an explosive argument and leave on bad terms.
So what happened 12 years ago that broke up their relationship? Will they be able to salvage what they had? Will they remain strangers to each other, never resolving their differences or will they make peace with their past and only become friends?
This story was sweet and spoke of life experiences that many people have in their early adult years. I found it to be a great read for an author who is new to me.

I’m giving this a 3 1/2 stars because it doesn’t deserve just 3.

I have some mixed feelings about the characters. I loved Mia. She was a strong character. Knows what she wants and tries to be strong when she meets up again with Liam after 12 years of them breaking up.

I had a problem with Liam and his attitude. He seemed to be stalkerish and he creeped me out. He was too obsessive with Mia. He never took no for an answer. It worried me because he was adamant about one time banging her and forgetting her. To get her out of his system. And then the next thought was wanting her back so badly. His sole purpose was to get back at her for leaving all those years ago.

I was confused about that too. He was confused about wanting her back and just burning her out of his system. He was torn between both. He was possessive of her to an extreme.

What I did like was the storyline of this book. It could have been beautiful. Them meeting up again after 12 years and having them work out their differences of the break up and getting back together.

Second chance romance books are always a go to for me. Due to some resentment and unsolved issues Liam and Mia end up not talking to one another for a decade.

In that time, they did a lot of growing up which was needed for them to get to the point they are at now. They never forget the love they had for one another.

Liam wanted to get back with Mia but she against it for while because of the past. Which leads to a misunderstanding.

Getting near the end of the book I didn’t think that everything was going to be able to be said, but it was and I got a little emotional because things were finally going the way that it should have been in the beginning.

After reading this book I’m going to have to check out other books by this author.

*3.5 stars*

This was a pretty good read except some of the scenes bordered on toxicity. The fact that Liam hooked up w someone else right after he and Mia had a fight and *sorta* broke up was also a huge turn-off for me. That is borderline cheating, if not outright.

The rest of the storyline was fairly decent.

description

Liam Wilder is a young entrepreneur and cardiac surgeon that is making a killing in the medical field. He was based in Europe for more than a decade after being left behind until he came home recently to a family member. After all the family obligations, his next mission was to take back what is "rightfully" his - Mia "Starlight" Jamison.

Mia Nova Jamison works as an assistant designer to a famous designer. She has traveled far to get to where she is now, and it is during one of those travels (aside from her brother's friendship with Liam) that she got to know Liam and ended up breaking his (and her) heart.

After twelve years, Mia and Liam's reunion brought so much "spark" that they did not realize still lingered. I would not be surprised if actual fireworks burst out from behind them! The energy each one tries to hide behind is no match to what their bodies demand. Two words: scorchingly magnetic!
At the same time, it was also impossible to hide my chuckles as Mia and Liam banter between each other. Liam is the "cool and calm" one while Mia was hissing her frustrations.

His Lost Love is the first of the Manhattan Millionaire's series and is a crossover from her Fairy Tale Billionaire series.
Basing entirely on the title - yes, this is a second-chance romance.
I was fortunate to review one of them, Billionaire's Cinderella, and got to meet Ryker and Ella there, which links Liam and Mia to this new series. No, readers do not have to read the Fairy Tale Billionaires series to start on this, but it is nice to piece people together.

As I started Chapter 1, I was very hesitant to continue. Why? It was a different sort of second chance than I expected. I was scared of going down the "rabbit hole of lost emotions" offered by the author in Mia and Liam's story. This book is my second review for the same author, and if I know Ava's writing style a bit more - I know she would take me on a gut-wrenching, heartbreaking, and emotionally charged trip. Okay - I am a masochist, but I was ecstatic at the same time!

This book is told from both Liam and Mia's POVs and will surely give you all the "feels" you think you can handle. The things that they have gone through to be where they are - successful yet still empty - breaks my heart. It is the first of the new Manhattan Billionaire series of Ava Ryan. Expect a lot of "baggage" offloaded between Mia and Liam as the past mistakes and misunderstandings come crashing unto them.

A weekend wedding of a mutual friend/relative gives them no other excuse but to face the past as Liam wants to see how he either can "get over" or "win-over" Mia by the end of the weekend. They needed to talk, and Damon summed it correctly - "there is no room for Pride in a relationship." There is no other way to get over and move on from each other until they are truthful and start "laying down" what happened many years ago. Liam and Mia's flashbacks were inserted naturally into the scenes that brought back all their old feelings - the joy and the pain. When I find out what "went wrong" (both are to blame!), I smacked my forehead - it was pure immaturity and fear! Because of hurtful words and actions, everything got snowballed to the present. Now, the questions in my head started looming, and I am worried.
(a)Can Mia and Liam forgive each other for the past?
(b) Have they learned from their past not to ruin their future if they give it another go?
(c) Lastly,
I felt that even if both would say that they are in the story - there were many "foolish moments" (*sighing*). It was the elephant in the room that keeps popping up in the worst times, kicking Mia and Liam where it hurts most - their hearts. They have their insecurities and self-worthiness to be happy. It was heartbreaking that even with different family upbringing, it did not make either Mia or Liam confident about themselves. Their "past" had a lot of unfortunate timings and precarious situations. Expect heavy topics on fidelity and "more." Make sure to have a box of tissues beside you because tears WILL FALL as the avalanche of confessions on bad decisions and dire consequences spew out. I remember not breathing until the end of all that THEN I wanted to shake Mia and Liam vigorously to snap them back to their "assumed" maturity as what they claim! I wanted to tell them that they just needed to find their "connection" again before it is too late.

In summary, His Lost Love has all the emotional rollercoasters as I expected from the author. It talks about redemption, salvation, and eternal, unwavering love through time. Readers will empathize yet love the persistent/denial dynamics between Mia and Liam. It will make readers shed a tear or two, and like Mia, the tiny pilot light of hope will steadfastly flicker as it awaits for the much-deserved HEA ending. The author will bring readers back to what counts - Mia and Liam are worthy of happiness together.

The first book in Ava Ryan’s new series Manhattan Billionaires. A spin off from My Fairy Tale Billionaires. A standalone steamy contemporary second chance romance told in dual POV by Liam Wilder and Mia Jamison.

They met aged 20 at college and dated for 2 years before breaking up. Now at 34 they are both single and lonely because they can’t forgive or forget the other. They haven’t seen each other in those 12 years and he finally plucks up the courage to orchestrates an invite to a party so he can see her, against his best friends advice. He in despair and can’t see a way out of it even, after all these years. He feels he has to do something about it, get her out his system, and start to really live his life. As a cardiac surgeon he tries to fix hearts but he can’t fix his own.

“If you love something, you can’t just let it go.”

They have always had a connection since the first day they met and that energy field around them is still there when they see each other. But it is not the happy reunion he had hoped because she is all caustic remarks and viscous towards him, becoming far more complicated than he thought. She still intrigues him and is totally mesmerised by her. He still full of lust and love for her but it is wrapped up with so much anger and revenge.
The author really shows how vulnerable and insecure he is around her, for an intelligent and successful man she really is his weakness.

“Can’t live with her. Can’t live without her. Can’t get it figured out. Can’t stop shooting myself in the foot.”

The story is a real game of cat and mouse. He plays her with sex and She plays him with harsh comments. To him she is heartless and cruel. She twists him round her little finger and he no defence against her. She is punishing him for breaking her heart and is annoyed when he is all soulful looks and sweet words. He has always noticed everything about her even what she tries to hide so it becomes a battle of wills and they both like to be in control. They are both so full of anger and hurt that they use sex to try and resolve the situation and have some very steamy scenes but it brings back more memories of when they loved each other.

“You expect me to believe that you don’t have an asterisk in your life just like I’ve got one in mine.”

It takes a long time to warm to Mia as she such a bitch and her comments are evil and cutting.
but don’t jump to conclusions, wait and see because there is far more to their story than you will expect. It is far more involved and complicated, you need to hear both sides before coming to your conclusion about her. There are actually good reasons why she behaves as she does.

Michael is Mia’s twin and Liam’s best friend. He is all broody, intense and thoughtful. He is full of words of wisdom and good advice to both of them, often disguised as friendly banter.
Tall, dark and handsome with a new mysterious love interest so hopefully that will be the next book in the series.

The Black brothers - Damon, Griffin and Ryker from My Fairy Tale Billionaires all appear as Liam’s sister Ella is marrying Ryker. There is a wonderful scene with the four men having a drink the night before the wedding and Ryder is hilarious and so sweet on the actual day he will make you swoon. The three brothers are very interesting characters so if you haven’t already read their stories then this will definitely make you want to check them out!

It is very emotional at times with two broken people attempting to live theirs lives apart when they actually better together. When they are forced to face their issues it is explosive and so heartbreaking for both of them. I found the problems they faced 12 years ago were realistic and relatable. All the resentment and misunderstandings make for a good story which I recommend. She is His Lost Love but he is hers.
Thank you Grey's Promotions for the Arc in exchange for an honest review. Never read this author before and enjoyed this book. Now really looking forward to reading about the Black Brothers.

She is His Lost Love but he is also hers.

His Lost Love is a spin-off of Ava Ryan’s Fairy Tale Billionaire’s Series and the first book in her new one Manhattan Billionaires.

My first Ava Ryan’s book was The Billionaire’s Cinderella which is also the book in which Liam was introduced. Needless to say, I have been looking forward to Liam’s story and it did not disappoint.

Liam Wilder and Mia “Nova” Jamison had a complicated past. They first met in college and dated until unexpected circumstances and miscommunication sent them in different paths after a “not so friendly” breakup. Twelve years later when Liam shows up to his best friend’s (who also happens to be Mia’s twin brother) housewarming party he is a man on a mission to win back the woman he never stopped loving. But, Mia - she is on a mission to avoid him at all costs.

Let me say that I absolutely loved the back and forth banter between Mia and Liam. Although there was a lot of animosity between the two of them, the sexual tension and chemistry was undeniably hot. Mia was confident. She was sassy and she was not shy about speaking her mind. Her comebacks to Liam’s directness was hilarious and sexy. Mia and Liam both held on to a lot of resentment each placing the majority of the blame for their fall-out one one another. This created a lot of tension between the two. Theirs were not easy topics to talk about.

I really did enjoy this book. This one of those stories in which I couldn’t help to think, “What if?” What if Mia and Liam had stayed together back then? Would they be together now? I personally feel that they had to live separate lives while perusing their respective careers, not because they couldn’t make it work, but because they both had a lot of issues they were dealing with (especially Liam) and they had to see what they were capable of achieving independently. I’m not saying that they should have completely parted ways for that long, but I think in the long run they had to go through what they did in order to find their way back to each other.

I really love when an author writes different series with connecting characters because it always gives us a chance to revisit old favorite characters we fell in love with. I loved Michael’s relationship with Mia and with Liam. He didn’t take sides and he was very straight forward with them about their own pride and how stubborn they were. I love the friendships and family dynamics that transferred over to this book. It was really great to witness how far Ella and Liam’s relationship had come.

I cannot wait for Michael’s story (which I am hopping that’s what Ava was hinting at). :).

This is a difficult review to write. Almost a week after finishing it, I still am terribly disappointed. It's not really a romance, since there's more fighting, more accusations, more indignity than there is emotionally restorative interaction. Liam is a manwhore of epic proportions who actively hates Mia and is set on revenge. The fatal flaw of this story is that there is no foundation for Liam and Mia's romance. They supposedly have this deep and all-consuming love, but we don't see them together in the past. It's told in flashbacks and the relationship doesn't unfold in front of our eyes because the author only tells us about it. There are no scenes in Italy that detail their budding romance; in fact, the only thing that is made clear is how they met. Mia is on the plane, waiting to take off for a study abroad in Rome, when this boy (Liam) quickly sits down beside her. He was trying to ditch the whiny girl (Janet) who thought she was his girlfriend, telling Mia that he doesn't want to sit with her because she wants more than he is willing or able to give her. It's a cute meeting that sets up what could have been a deep and abiding love, but that's not how it all played out. For two years they were happy and fulfilling their dreams as they prepared for their careers. Newly engaged, Mia got pregnant but lost the baby. After her miscarriage, she struggled with it and told Liam he didn't have to marry her now that she wasn't having his baby. That was the most ridiculous thing in the world, but if she hadn't done it there would be no more to the story. This is where Liam became "less than" for me. Less than a man. Less than a lover. Less than anyone who could be trusted again. He made excuses and tried to blame Mia for his betrayal. He "made a mistake." "He had a knee-jerk reaction." He did the worst thing he could do. He called Janet and cheated with her. He was so broken, he just couldn't help it. And it happened again and again. When Mia and Liam finally have their "big reveal" to clear the air about how they hurt each other, she asks him how he could have cheated on her as she lay in bed, crying over the loss of their baby. He got caught, but he made excuses and never once said "I'm sorry." For me, that was the end of the story. There may have been professions of love, but they felt hollow. The ending was rushed. They found their way back together, but it ended in a HFN. After all that hurt and hatred, they needed a HEA, or nothing at all. It feels unfinished and desperately needs an epilogue to show that they are actually happy in the future.

His Lost Love is a part of the Manhattan Billionaires, and though I've never read Ava Ryan before, I thought this was a great book. Liam and Mia met while on a plane to a study abroad program and what transpired after is two years of happiness in a relationship. However, they were in for an unexpected surprise, and both reacted badly to it. Their breakup was painful and though both tried to move, a decade and some odd years later, Liam and Mia both need to confront each other and get some answers.

Liam is very persistent in being back in Mia's life, and their sexual attraction actually hinders their communication and chance to hash out unfinished business when they first meet again. I can see Liam's behavior as him trying to get closure and answers for what happened years before, since they were both too young and immature to discuss their feelings. Also add insecurity on top of that, and no wonder they both made rash decisions and judgements. I like that there were flashbacks to the beginning of their relationship, which did show the insecurities they had between them and how that might have made their parting more painful, even contributed to the demise of their relationship. The fact that they both can't get over each other in the past decade shows the level of hurt, resentment, and regret they both have. People say time heals all wounds, and that's definitely true, but getting closure before you leave a self defining relationship (and it was for them since they were both so young and invested) would definitely have encouraged them to either get over each other and move on, or fix any misunderstanding they had and then continue their relationship. I think Ava Ryan did a great job of portraying the confusing emotions that both characters experience, emotions that real people go through. I did like Liam and Mia, and with as much hurt as they had between them, you just couldn't help but hope they find their way back to each other.

4.5/5

In this second chance romance, Liam takes a risk to get Mia back in his life and as his love after not seeing one another for more than a decade due to a major breakup between the two.

They’ve successfully stayed away from each other due to resentment and unresolved issues. However, at Michael’s (Mia’s twin brother & Liam’s best friend) housewarming party, all bets are off when Liam spots Mia from across the room.

He pursues her from that point on and endures all that Mia has to throw at him, emotionally. In a series of events, the two are constantly around one another (housewarming & a wedding weekend) and that forces them to address the issues at hand.

Liam is consistent and he’s not flaky once he set his sights on Mia. He knows what he wants and goes after it, with degrees of restraint as well because he doesn’t want to push where he shouldn’t. Mia, although still heartbroken by the end of their relationship all those years ago, has never stopped loving Liam.

A big plus for me was there was not an influx of secondary characters. We met Michael, Ella & Ryker (for a few chapters) but that was essentially it. I found that without so many other characters, the story was smoother and the focus was mainly on Liam & Mia. Also, what caused the breakup all those years ago, was a realistic reason. It wasn’t superficial but one that I’m sure people face on a daily basis.

If you’re looking for a second chance romance based on two thirty something year olds, who have dream careers & realistic issues, this one is a great read.

Emotionally charged second chance romance.
My favorite part of this book was Ryan’s descriptive writing style. She made you feel every emotion that the characters were going through. The conversations were so clear, it was as if you were having them yourself. This whole book was like a movie playing in my head.
It has been over 10 years since Liam and Mia have last seen each other. To say they had a bad breakup is an understatement but they have a connection that never went away. They have anger, anguish, and are brimming with passion. They made immature choices when they were younger but when they have ’the talk’ and clear the air it was not easy and a lot is uncovered but they showed their maturity as well. Liam’s vulnerability and the way he continually fights for Mia will make you melt.

This is the first book in the Manhattan Billionaire Series. Fans of the Fairy Tale Billionaires Series will enjoy the cameos from those favorites.
P.S. I really hope that Michael, Mia’s brother, gets the next book. Ryan, you have piqued my curiosity with his ’someone special.'

I want to start out by saying that I've become a HUGE fan of Ava Ryan's writing style so anything said in this review won't change that fact. I wanted to love this story but the things that happened enraged me & kept me in that state cover to cover to be honest. Our hero (though no hero in my eyes) was completely selfish & self centered from the jump in my opinion so he was already on my bad list. See, he and Mia were together & in love 12 years in the past, but in his eyes, she broke his heart, and he's straight up full of himself especially since he planned on making her pay for it. There were bread crumbs thrown around so I wasn't able to put it down because I needed to know what happened, and man it was all his fault to be honest. The decisions he made were too much for me to overcome, and I found myself despising him throughout. Even when she was willing to see if they could get past the past, he still acted like that jerk from back in the day when she took too long. I need y'all to know that I LOVED Mia HARD so I kept reading despite all the rage that was covering me. Anyway, this is only my opinion which means I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you decide for yourselves!

I want to start this review off by saying what I love about Ava Ryan. When I read her first book, I knew she had something, but I could kind of feel her hesitancy with the first book. The second book killed me, in the best possible way, and by the third book she owned me. Now with His Lost Love, I’m done for. For being a new author she grew into her writing quickly and is just doing an amazing job.

Now for His Lost Love, she owned me from page one. This book is a bit different from her previous books and I love that. I love that she doesn’t write the same exact book every time. With Liam and Mia the book started with them having a past relationship and trying to fight for their way back to each other, well Liam was at least, Mia was a bit more cautious. This book teaches you the true importance of clear communication in a relationship, and what happens when it’s not there. There’s also this funny line in the book that has to do with a cactus that had me laughing out loud. I love this book, definitely recommend it, and can’t wait to see what comes next!

Lost love found?

Liam and Mia were college sweethearts until a life changing event sent them in different directions. Each blames the other for the break down of their relationship. Several years later they are reunited and Liam decides he needs closure on their relationship. Mia still holds a grudge and is not interested in revisiting their painful break up. When the are forced into close proximity they have no choice but to deal with their past.

I really like Liam. He’s quirky and persistent, even if he is a bit clueless when it comes to his own emotions. His ability to persevere is certainly necessary because Mia is extremely stubborn. I actually really admired they way she held onto her grudge. Too often the heroine forgives and forgets too easily.

This story is super hot. It’s a compelling read because you can’t stop reading until you have the full picture of what happened in their past. It was my first Ava Ryan book and to say I’m intrigued by the Black brothers would be an understatement. I’m definitely putting the Fairy Tale Billionaires series on my TBR.

Communication is the most important part of any relationship. Maybe if Liam and Mia opened up when they broke up 12 years ago they might still be together. But then again, they both were very young and had a lot of growing up to do. The feelings are still there but can Mia trust Liam to not hurt her. Can they both let go to what drove them apart and move forward. They never forgot the love they shared. In fact, every woman that has come after Mia resembled her in some way. Except her eyes. No one has ever had her eyes. Then again, aren’t the eyes the mirrors of the soul . Anyone who looks into Liams eyes would know that he still loves Mia.
I love second chance romances. You know what works and hopefully now know what didn’t but you have a second chance to make it right. You also learn not to take anything for granted. One important thing to remember is communication. That is the key to any successful relationship.

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
I love a second chance romance and this certainly didn’t disappoint. I really loved Liam, he so badly wanted to rekindle his love with Mia but she was super reluctant. They both hurt each other 12 years ago and hadn’t seen each other since despite Mia’s twin brother being Liam’s best friend. When they were brought back together again(Mia designed Liam’s half sisters wedding dress) there was definite chemistry but so much denial too. It was such a turbulent time for them both with so much misunderstanding between them and years of unsaid hurt. The characters were all so strong and the story had me not wanting to put it down. I loved that the first part of the book had the Black brothers heavily featured. With this is mind, I would recommend reading The Fairytale Billionaires first just so you know who they are and where they all fit in.

Ummmm...3.5 stars for me I guess... I feel like the author should write a prologue about Mia and Liam's past, at least just so readers can get an idea that they were in love with each other because I keep thinking that I am missing something while I am reading through all of their fights and angry sexes. Of course, I feel Liam's love for Mia in this second chance they get but I am not sure about Mia's feeling and well, I can guess what Liam did for breaking her heart from Mia's perspective but it is not confirmed until they decide to clear the air at 75% of the book so yeah, I feel struggling all 75% of it beside her reason to hate him seems weak because she is the one who broke up their relationship. So the rest of 25%, I keep thinking that Mia is a selfish b**ch. I rarely not enjoy reading the second chance romance but this one is an exception and even if I am so glad for Liam to finally get Mia back, she should do a lot of things than that to impress me though.
